Lost - The Dog of Mystery
There’s been some speculation about the creepy dog painting in Jacob’s cabin, and no, it isn’t Vincent. The LOSTpedia blog just claimed that it is in fact Lulu Bender, LOST’s executive producer Jack Bender’s new pet. Lulu has already appeared in the episode "The Cost of Living", as well as in some promotional photography for LOST. Read more at the LOSTpedia blog, as well as the wiki article for Lulu.
Besides being a creepy rendering of Bender’s new pooch, the painting is the second portrait so far to portray a ‘pet’ concept. The first one being the infamous "Hamster of Mystery" from "The Man From Tallahassee."

Another mystery solved.

Looks more like a mini schnauzer face than that dog that is pictured with that director.

The picture of the dog, I believe, is of a Lhasa Apso. Lhasas are a small breed of dog originally from Tibet. They have an instinct for identifying friends from strangers. (Ben and John?)
*Some monks believe that Lhasas are reincarnated dalais. Golden Lhasas are said to house the souls of the Dalai Lamas. In the picture the dog looks like it has a golden coat…
Another note: Dali Lama mean Ocean Leader. The title Dalai Lama is given to each of the spiritual leader’s successive incarnations (a living being embodying a deity or spirit).
*Upon the death of the Dalai Lama, his monks institute a search for the Lama’s reincarnation, or yangsi, a small child (possibly the babies on the island? or Ben as a child?). Familiarity with the possessions of the previous Dalai Lama is considered the main sign of the reincarnation. The search for the reincarnation typically requires a few years. The reincarnation is then brought to Lhasa (Where Lhasa Aspos are from) to be trained by the other Lamas.
I think Julia was brought to the island to help deliver a yangsi, (small child) on the island…
It’s just a thought.

When I saw this painting in the episode, my first thought was of that Retrievers of Truth thing they did with The Lost Experience, and of Vincent. Could Retrievers of Truth still have some foundation in the LOST world?

Jacksonclark,
thanks for the reasearch and input, but i don’t think we are exactally trying to “figure out” who the dog is in the picture. Doc’s post says it all. THE DOG IS JACK BENDERS. Which is clearly NOT a Lhasa Apso.
