Easiest way to vote!
Hey there visitors! Since you enjoy visiting, why not take a second to vote for TheTailsection in the second annual Hugo Cup. No time you say? I’ve made it easier for you…. I’m embedding the voting page in this entry! Just use the scrollers to go to the right, select your favorite LOST site, and click "vote" and you are done!
Folks are crying foul that we have ramped up the voting…. the reason is simple: I included the voting page within this page. Here’s my traffic for the week:
Is it that hard for you to believe that less than 11% of my visitors so far have voted? Get a life. Look at how many votes my polls generate over the course of a day or too…. all I did was provide easy access since my visitors were obviously too lazy to click through. (no offense.)
Furthermore I used the same poll system which only allowed one vote per ip with cookies to give away my own personal autographed LOST script several months ago:
The script is game proof. Right now I have an article on digg and I was given and advanced Q&A with Cuse and Lindelof FROM Entertainment Weekly. No doubt this, combined with iframing in the voting site has helped, but it’s going to taper off.
I will privately give access to traffic stats to any individual representing a site that wants to challenge them. I’m just having a good morning folks. Get over it. What will you do on Wednesday when I typically get around 60-70k uniques and I blow past everybody?
Don’t put so much emphasis on Dark’s traffic either, as a fan of his site myself I visit it probably 10-15 times daily, but I can only vote once. I’m lucky to get 3 or 4 updates a day. It all comes down to uniques, not traffic.

Voted. Go Doc.

I was trying to vote for Barack Obama but he wasn’t listed.
What? That’s who I get ALL of my LOST info from!!!

Doc, You’re gaining percentage wise. I went to some free Wifi Hotspots in town and voted again.

You know I enjoy your site and appreciate your thoughts.
The article on the silver lining of 3 16 episode seasons just smells of shilling for the network and producers. My opinion is that ABC etc just inflicted signficant damage on our potential to enjoy this awesome story.

Holy Crap!!? Check the standings now. Way to freakin’ go Doc. Like they say, vote early and vote often.

I think we are going to win, we have been increasing at a crazy fast rate. We need very few votes to overtake! Come on everyone VOTE!

Well congrats for spoiling the Hugo Cup, 2500 votes in 2 hours.. nice bot or script.
Lostpedia will be withdrawing themselves from this farce

Sad that you are so desperate to win.
Comment by Lostpedia — May 8, 2007 @ 10:24 am
or, pray tell, are the real losers the website who ‘withdraw’ themselves, because they’re unhappy with third place?
Comment by cerberus — May 8, 2007 @ 10:32 am
Doc, this voting is BS! How dare you be getting more votes. I mean sure, your average COLUMN lately has been getting about a hundred comments, let alone a few thousand views, still, that does not justify you getting lots of votes.
And what lie/excuse are you hiding behind as far as why you’re getting votes? Because you think outside the box? Because you don’t just copy from other sites and paste it as your own? Because you cover every topic out there when you’re not creating new topics?
This is all BS! I know you’re using expensive hack equipment in order to cheat and win this contest since the prize is millions of dollars and a seat in the LOST writers room. You’re busted, admit it.
How DARE you get rewarded for your work and insight!

plkrtn should upset if indeed someone is using bots to vote. That would be a violation of netiquette. There is no reason to be upset if someone has a legitimate way of voting multiple times.
I admit, I have voted more than once. This is not a violation of rules or netiquette because I submitted one manual vote for each legitimate ip address. If I were voting by robot, then you could call fowl. But that article impunes anyone who has voted more than once, no matter the method.
There are plenty of supporters of each of the nominated sites that can and have done the same thing. Flame those using robots, but not passionate supporters of their favorite site.
Besides, Doc has, by far, the most engaging site of anyone nominated. He deserves to win.

Please might I apologize on behalf of Lostpedia for the comment about “ruining the Hugo Cup” - we don’t hold anyone responsible and were about to suggest pulling out long before TheTailSection started gaining ground (we emailed Jay and Jack about it as early as yesterday afternoon).
The reason we have pulled out is the fact that the script is extremely vulnerable, and some users have said on comments sections that they have cheated the system. Its probably on all five participants too, not just “the one in the lead” which seems to rile users.

I’m not sure about using bots, but to be honest, all of this inflated self-promotion all over the page demanding your readers to go vote for you is a bit annoying. I’ll still read the Tailsection; to be honest, I could care less about the Hugo Cup. But still, LAME.

I thought this might garner some interest/support. I posted on Lostpedia as I feel that some things needed to be said. I apologise in advance if I’m stepping on any toes.

Haha, you’re dead on about your readership being too lazy to click through and vote.
Digg hits will do wonders for your traffic, and a few might even stay. I’ve been visiting this site since your scoop of the ‘Brief History of Time’ time shifting appearing on Digg months ago.

Already voted, but woohoo! The Tailsection has gained the lead! Go Doc!

Hi, I voted for you yesterday but it was nice to see how you are doing. When I voted yesterday, you were #3 and now you are #1. You go, Doc!!!!

Update on gaming allegations. Interestingly, as of 9:55pm est, the percentage of unique visitors to vote has NOT changed. 10% of the visitors today have voted for the site in the hugo cup.
MOST of those votes came during the two hour period following our release of the excerpt from the FIRST q&a with Cuse and Lindelof since the announcement of the end of LOST.
During those two hours, the site received close to 40k page views. For a short period, our SQL server was knocked offline due to the volume.
The uniformity of the voting, staying at a constant 10%, makes me more inclined to believe that there was no gaming. 10% is not a large percentage of votes. Scripts would have surely generated more votes, and the rate of voting would not have remained constant once the script was taken out.
