New Time Slot and End Date to be Announced?
The LOST crew is on the verge of making some announcements that will be music to some fans ears, and horrifying news to others. First is the time slot for next season. Both 8 and 9 were mentioned, but no day. Since they really want to avoid the American Idol machine, I’m guessing Monday.

It would be absolute suicide for this show to move to a Friday night. If there HAS to be a change, make it a Monday or Tuesday night. You don’t want this show on Thursdays either competing with NBC’s current line up.

Doc - you should add an option to the second poll for 5 1/2 seasons - 108 episodes!
Comment by Scott — May 4, 2007 @ 12:11 pm
I voted for no change specifically for the 10:00 time slot. I think the later time allows them to be more racy. Also, I voted for season 6. As much as I love LOST I know it would be very important to set an end point. During next years negotiations it would be perfect to hear LOST has signed on for two more seasons, and season 6 will be the end. This would appease all parties. ABC would have their hit show for two more years and the writers and producers would have their finite end point. We the fans would also know that there is a plan that we are a big part of…
Comment by cap10tripps — May 4, 2007 @ 12:17 pm
As for time, my reply would be “Don’t care - DVRing it and watching it when I get a chance.”
I voted for 5 seasons, but in reality I vote for as long as it takes to adequately tell the story, without stretching it out or rushing it, and not one episode more.
Comment by chemicallcrow — May 4, 2007 @ 12:20 pm
Scott- i think if my math is right you would hit 108 episodes during season 5, so there is a possilbity they do 13-15 episodes for season 5 and finish with 108 overall.
I also wanted to point out that over at DarkUFO, he has confirmed the show will run through a fifth season and end there.
Comment by Dr. Nope — May 4, 2007 @ 12:24 pm
Dr Nope - I think that’s what scott was saying - five-and-a-half seasons to = 108. I agree - that would really fit the show. But I guess we’ll see if DarkUFO was right…
I also think Lost should move back to weds at 9. Definitely not Mondays at 9 to compete with Heroes. That would be bad for both shows.
Comment by lostlover — May 4, 2007 @ 12:32 pm
Not to get into a pissing war over this, but 5 1/2 seasons would put the show into the 6th season. whearas going to the 108 ep. would be essentially 4 1/2 seasons.
Comment by Dr. Nope — May 4, 2007 @ 12:36 pm
I see what you mean…sorry. Geez, scott, work on the math! j/k
Comment by lostlover — May 4, 2007 @ 12:44 pm
I was never good with numbers. it’s a shame I still call myself a LOST fan. Or maybe it was just fractions I had trouble with.
Nevertheless - 4.5 seasons, 108 episodes, Weds. 9pm.
Comment by Scott — May 4, 2007 @ 12:47 pm
My preference would be 108 episodes (4.5) seasons…BUT I’d like to see the half season final 13 episodes run continuously in the FALL of ‘08. Complete final “mini-season” box sets ready for December ‘08 release.

If there are only 2 years left who cares if it competes with American Idull. Finish strong and the fans will watch whenever its on…or TIVO it and watch it later…this is all about advertising anyway. If they really want to be different…how about 42 strait minutes followed by 18 minutes of commercials? start it in january with 24 strait commerical free episodes. those were some good mushrooms.

What is wrong with you people! the poll said that most of you want Lost to end in season 5?!?!?
why don’t we leave it up to the creative minds behind the scenes and hope they don’t disappoint us like a movie with an ending that leaves us saying… “what??? what was the point of even starting to watch it in the first place!”
Comment by lostfreak — May 4, 2007 @ 1:59 pm
Monday night would be a showdown between Heroes and 24. Tuesday is OK. the 10 pm sucks as I can’t watch with my friends, it’s late and there is nothing to watch until 10pm!
Comment by RazzleDazzle — May 4, 2007 @ 2:24 pm
I know that a lot of things seem to be getting answered and hopefully it’s not winding down to 4 seasons. I think 5 is a natural end to this. I think 4 seasons would be too soon. The core audience would love to see it go that far at least, as we love it so much and there are so many stories to tell. They need to get back to Libby, Michael AND Walt and resolve those story lines. They made it seem as though Libby had a lot of back story.
Comment by RazzleDazzle — May 4, 2007 @ 2:28 pm
I think that it would be good to have it at 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday nights like it used to be. This new 10:00 time hasn’t been too good because I sometimes have to just record it and watch it the next day because of school. So I think that it should be at 9:00 on Wednesdays and go until the 5th or 6th season, or whenever the writers know when they are going to end it. But I also like the idea of 108 episodes. =]
Comment by Rachel — May 4, 2007 @ 2:35 pm
I’m already having to watch Heroes after it airs in favor of 24, so Monday is out. I’d go Tuesday against Law & Order: CI. That would be 9pm.
Comment by Crockett — May 4, 2007 @ 2:40 pm
This is Eastern time, right?
Monday or Friday would kill the show. I think Monday is usually the least watched nite of TV. And Friday’s didn’t do anything for XFiles and a bunch of other shows I liked. *sob*
Tuesday and Thursday would mean either Law and Order or CSI competition. Wednesday makes the most sense. To h*ck with singing-wanna-be’s!

I don’t get the logic behind the whole “5 season is enuf”. U can’t really quantize the length of a good story. For my part, 4.5 season is way to short (what’s up wit the half?). On the other hand, keeping up the sheer creativity would be hard for the writers, but who says a new team could’nt take over the mantle & do smthg completly nu & mind blowing? I guess it boils down to economics & the audience’s concentration span… So i’d say 5 season minimum, 7 maximum.
Comment by JDSalinga — May 4, 2007 @ 3:27 pm
A time change is a Catch-22 of sorts. More people would probably watch the show at the earlier time but the show would not be able to be as intense (in terms of violence and blood). I really like the new found ability to be more raw and violent thanks to the new time slot. Its more realistic but that would change with an early time.
Comment by Miguel — May 4, 2007 @ 4:15 pm
iowalost815: Friday and Saturday are the least watched. Not Monday.
Thetailsection’s poll is wrong because the major nights for TV are not Monday thru Friday but Sunday thru Thursday. LOST would absolutely never move to Friday, the show would be cancelled because of how much it cost. And seeing as how dark the show has gotten, I SERIOUSLY doubt that LOST would consider 8pm at all.
Doc, go to yauws.com. A graph of the ratings for all three seasons are available. LOST performed SO much better competing with Idol than being in the 10pm slot.
I hope it ends in season five not 4.5. I want five full season. I dunno, its probably an OCD thing but I just want five complete packages u know? 5 complete seasons! I don’t really care about the 108 episodes thing.
Comment by BERF — May 4, 2007 @ 4:21 pm
A lot of fans seem to like the 108 episodes idea. What if season 5 was boiled down to the main points of LOST. Each story could be a two part episode. One week would be part 1. The next week would be part 2. The series finale would stick with the two hour two parter in one night. That would give us both 108 episodes and a full season 5…
Comment by cap10tripps — May 4, 2007 @ 4:25 pm
I voted Monday at 9:00, because I think Monday would be a great day to have LOST on (but also risky because of that juggernaut Heroes), and because here in Louisiana the show would actually air at 8:00, which I think is the best possible time for a show to air. Just look at a lot of other hit shows, when do they come on? 8:00.
I also voted Season Four. Why? Because the story’s mid-point was apparantly the first six episodes of season three, which means a fifth season would be stretching things. If they have gotten to the point where their story is almost out, then by all means I think they should end it.
Comment by Evil-pineapples — May 4, 2007 @ 6:17 pm
Personally, I see there being 5 seasons. Here’s why. Where we currently are, is the point of the story where the shit is about to hit the fan. Things have been starting to look good. The Others are on the move, and we know that the Losties are gonna set a trap for the Others. Naturaly, things are gonna start to look nice. And just when victory seems near, Dharma is gonna show up, and all hell is gonna break loose. Season 4 is a war story. Season 5 will be them tryin to keep Dharma from doing something.
Comment by AREM — May 4, 2007 @ 9:29 pm
I vote Wednesdays at 9 (EST) because it’s what I was originally used to. Selfish, I know.
I vote five seasons, because I think we’re just over halfway through the telling of this story.
I’d love LOST to run forever, but stories don’t last forever. When you read a book, there are only so many chapters or pages before the story ends.
I’d much rather LOST meet an end according to the storytelling of its producers/writers and their goals, then have it drag on indefinitely, decay in quality and end without satisfying resolution or any resolution at all. Nothing is worse than a good story told past its natural end.
Comment by Lance — May 4, 2007 @ 10:09 pm
I really hope they don’t move it to an 8pm timeslot…they’ll have to go with a whole new set of ‘rules’ with an earlier slot…I still say that’s what helped put the nail in Alias’ coffin…season 4 was just a shadow of what it used to be.
I would like them to not move the show at all, Wednesdays at 10 is perfect for me…Wednesdays at 9 is also good, but that’s a good point about them not wanting to deal with the Idol thing…stupid show…
If they move it to a Monday at 9…Heroes and 24 (assuming they keep their timeslots) and Thursdays at 9…The Office and Grey’s Anatomy (again assuming)
Those aren’t really conflicts for me, but, I think any move at this point will help put more of a dent in the show’s ratings. Keep it where it is or move it back to 9.
Also, 5 or 6 seasons sound good to me…but I’m not ready for it to end just after 4!!! Let’s face it…I’ll never be ready.
Comment by Fallon — May 5, 2007 @ 2:22 am
I totally agree that an earlier time slot would cause Lost to loose its edge. I like having it racy, bloody, and more free. Do you guys think that moving the show to this later time like it currently is was to allow the show this year to be racier and bloodier?
Comment by AREM — May 5, 2007 @ 6:07 am
Im sorry…did you say hire new writers???? Are you kidding me?? Thats even worse than changing the viewing day!! Its TV suicide!! Name one show that has actually kept its momentum or has not been cancelled after a major writer overhaul. Lost needs Carlton and Damon. Its their story. It needs a proper end point. Don’t be selfish.

DocArzt:
With the possible reveal of Jacob’s identity looming on Wednesday, could you put together a “Who do you think is Jacob and why?” poll for us? I know there have been dozens of speculations posted during the last few weeks/months in various discussion threads. But it would be nice to have them all in one place for everyone to put their best arguments leading up to “The Man Behind the Curtain.” Candidates should be: Marvin Candle/Wickman, Charles Widmore, Alvar Hansco, Christian Shepard, Mr. Piak, Anthony Cooper, Richard Alpert, Ben Linus, Tom, Jack, Locke, Hurley, Walt, Desmond, Someone We Haven’t Met, No One/Imaginary. That should be a great way for everyone to get through the weekend. Thanks, Doc. Have a great weekend.

Monday at 9 ET is SUICIDE, even more than friday. That’ll put it against 24 AND Heroes. And I only have one DVR.
Comment by David — May 5, 2007 @ 8:29 am
gusteaux.. yes please include “No One/Imaginary”.
But didn’t they say that Jacob was someone we _hadn’t_ met yet? So that rules out everyone.

They did not. They said it wasn’t Billy Dee Williams. And then they did their Darlton Dance.

You heard it here first. Jacob is the little wooden doll. Am I kidding? Find out in five days.

So Doc,
Does your post above mean that you are saying answer A) is correct in the “One of Two Things Happened a Couple of Days Ago” thread?

U’re right. I don’t have the slightest ideea or example, but Lost is such an unconventional show that i’d be willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Hey, nothing’s impossible. Even now other people are involved in the writing…I don’t know, I just luv this show, man!

Doc, you should have informed us what time zone we were voting for. Thus, my vote was actually an hour later than what I wanted.
