Special thanks for Ahmad for sending this along. These are from the preview for 3.20 "The man behind the curtain". Are we looking at a crude toy fashioned for young Ben? Was the gas masked dude part of the purge, or perhaps another gassing?
Were they supposed to be black and white? Any word on the flashbacks being black and white? That’d be cool…

@tomfishstory: I doubt they’re B&W flashbacks. The B&W is likely just special treatment for the promos. Go back and examine other promos from the second half of this season, they use the same effect. It’s almost as tacky as the blatant use of the Requiem for a Dream music in the promos from the last few weeks.
@JoeTime: Who knows? ;P We see numerous outdoor shots of people on the island in the flash stills. This suggests that at some point, DHARMA staff believed that it was okay to walk around without haz-mat suits, but then something happened later that required the use of the haz-mat suits. If the use is in connection to the “quarantine”, I’d guess it’s a ruse instigated later on by DHARMA staff post-incident, because the Others don’t seem to know much about the Swan and thus couldn’t have been the ones who put “QUARANTINE” on the inside of the door to the escape hatch. I’m hoping this isn’t the “incident”, because for all the mystery surrounding it, it had better be some violent, crazy, scary stuff.
@dharmament: I agree, those sure look like Ben’s eyes. Is that one of the houses from the barracks in the background?

found this pic of Ben form Locke’s vision of him in the airport. It’s the same angle on the eyes. At first I thought it was Walt for a second. But now I can say without a doubt it has to be Ben in the gasmask.

To me it looks like the young Ben.
This is a little of the topic but one of the last pics of the Brig show a tatoo on Naomi’s arm. Four squares with a line through it. I thought of Connect Four when I saw it. It is a weird tatoo for a girl to have. Is that a tatoo the actress has or is it a clue on the show or are they just covering up her real tatoo and it means nothing.

There is a good shot of it in the “previously on lost” segment where Hurley is pretending to talk to his mom. Naomi coughs and he starts asking her questions. She reveals the fate flight 815.
There it looks like five or six hexagons connected by a line.

Crazy! So did Ben somehow get the people he wanted onto a dummy plane? Perhaps Cindy the flight attendant is involved, and helped with the process?
We know that there’s supposedly “another flight 815″ on the bottom of the ocean, fully intact, with all of the bodies (which seems completely impossible, but whatever…). Perhaps Ben helped orchestrate what happened to our castaways from the getgo?

Looks like it could be anyone behind the mask my guess would be its Ben when he was still a Dharma workman, i think its funny how people say its definately Bens eyes and some others say its definetly Juliet’s, their eyes look nothing alike :).
The theory is that Jacob is Ben’s imaginary friend from childhood that he has now concocted as story around being this great man and he has used this lie to keep the Others in line. So Ben is the Man Behind the Curtain pretending to take orders from a higher power when its him all along and that doll was the genesis of his imaginary friend that he has maintained through adulthood.

I agree with Muscle Bob, I think it’s Juliet in the gas mask. Remember how the camera focused on the gas mask right after Ben was making Juliet go over the plan to trick Kate in the jungle. I think it was in “Left Behind”
To H2O: I read somewhere the actress who plays Naomi has the tattoo. I also read that they are not a clue to anything.

I know the picture isn’t posted in this thread, but the “ghostly” woman in white from the preview is definitely the woman in the painting holding the hamster from Ben’s house. She looks the same and is wearing the same clothes.

Any ideas on the significance of the whole “Jacob Work Man” thing? I know that those words were in one of the flashing images in next weeks preview after “The Brig” ended. I think Hurley came across a Guy that had a name tag of the same name. The dead guy in the VW Bus I think it was. Obviously this “Jacob Work Man” plays some significant role, but I wonder what exactly.

Naomi said that the ‘real’ plane was found in an ocean trench four miles deep, she revealed that no humans went down (or at least it was implied), she says they sent little robots down. All of which could have been faked.

The gas mask person … I don’t think this is hard.
The official description of the episode says, “Juliet’s secret goes public …”
I think we’ll get a flashback and explanation of what’s been going on with Juliet since the Others gassed our heroes and departed Otherville.
It’s Juliet wearing the gas mask.
The last time we saw the gas mask was the flashback when Ben & Juliet were at the table discussing the “see you in a week” plan.

It’s not the music from Requiem For A Dream, it’s Requiem For Two Towers. It’s an orchestrial remake of “Hope Overture” from Requiem For A Dream used in Lord of the rings: The Two Towers promos.

New podcast is up….they strongly hint that Jacob is Ben….that sucks and is so predictable.
Anyone else getting extremely tired of Ben’s ruses upon ruses? We get it, he’s a master manipulator but if this show was on HBO then I bet $10 that Adebisi, Pancamo, Morales, or Alvarez would have taken him out by now just for the aggravation.

I put the Gas mask pic into Photoshop and reverse the negative it looks like Juliet to me…..
Well in the real world I highly doubt Delta would go to the extreme of hiring deep oceanic robotic subs to go 4 miles deep to check on a downed airplane. Thats quite an expensive, dangerous and tenuous task. After all if the plane is indeed 4 miles deep in a trench, the bodies would NOT be intact, everything would be imploded from the sheer pressure!
So Naomi is blowing smoke or this is TV!

You don’t learn much from that podcast this week;
WE learn that the Others seemed to be waiting for Locke.
Richard Alpert seen before doing things off the Island. Is he trying to subvert Locke by undermining Ben?
Others must have a massive network of information gathers.
Alpert tells Locke he is special & gives him the folder of Sawyer. We will see more of Alpert next week.
We will learn more about Ben. Is Ben the “Man Behind The Curtain”? Ben is………..or maybe not.
Wizard of Oz- idea of large & scary fake persona but really a small man in charge.
Who is in charge? How powerful are they? Will we see Jacob?..I hope so.
It is interesting that they spend several years saying that the island is not purgatory and this week in the show they say it is hell but don’t even mention it in the podcast . I think it is an obvious Red Herring.

As far as comments here go, I like that idea that Jacob could be a computer or even Ben’s make believe friend. If done right, it could be cool.
i just saw new rumors today at lostpedia that Sayid and Claire will die in “The Truth About Lying” episode and it is Charlie’s fault. Then I see in other rumors that Sawyer and Sayid will be working closely together, and that Claire and Charlie are going to get hot and heavy. I’d be bummed if either Sawyer or Sayid died, but not Claire. Those characters have depth and I think it would be a mistake to get rid of them. Just my opinion

I agree I would not miss Claire but it would be sad to lose Sawyer or Syaid they are interesting characters. I am a little suspicious though. They went to great lengths to show the island can revive the almost dead in the case of Mikhail. I think whoever bites it in the finale could resurface in season 4.

Jacob is not a computer. Lost has done its ‘evil computer’ story already. There’s no room for another.
Out of interest, how do you picture it? With spinning tape reels that look like eyes, and a ticker tape machine where the mouth should be? Perhaps with ‘J.A.C.O.B.’ spelt out underneath in a blocky, ‘computer’-style typeface?

Alfar Hanzo is Jacob! Heres Why: Take a look at the Swan’s Orientation Film…theres something about the entire shot, the lighting, the way the camera zooms in from outside the building and his facial expression and the way his head is posiitioned. Just a thought.

I wonder if that is Juliet in the mask. It could be when they gassed Jack and Kate. But…could Jack be in on something too? He is definately hiding things. There was that last flashback with Juliet where she was going over the plan with Ben, maybe there will be a similar scene where Ben or somebody makes plans with Jack.

Where does all this conjecture come from about the producers having clearly hinted something about Jacob? So far, I’ve only heard and read remarks by them suggesting that a) Man Behind the Curtain might ask the question of who is the “real” leader of the others and generally b) who Jacob is should be a surprise. Well, duh! Maybe that’s because that’s usually the way it is when they introduce new characters. After all, when we first saw Ben, he was hanging from a tree and we didn’t even know his name (that’s actually similar to the parachutist this year…).
As far as I can see, they have not made any credible statements suggesting that Jacob is “someone we know” or “someone we have never seen”. For all intents and purposes, we don’t even have a confirmation yet to believe Jacob is in fact a character. All that the show hinted on until now is that at least some of the Others apparently have an idea of what that name refers to.

I totally agree with you duldu. That officially the information we have been give dose not definitively prove if we have or havenot seen Jacob.

Jacob did not always do the right thing, yet he seemed to be in touch with God — and surrounded by visions, dreams and even angels. The lesson we can learn from this is that while we will blow it in life many times — meaning we will not always be perfect — that God is there to listen to us and help us if we call out to Him.
If any of this Purgatory illustration is true that a lot of people rumor about, then last week’s episode definitely painted Ben as the Devil himself.

The gas mask is being worn by somebody when they knocked out Kate. The gas mask is a new style (I was in the military from 95-05). My guess is that it is Juliet.
