Who was Juliet Glaring at?
Okay, we know that Juliet had a bad ass glare on her face at the end of last nights episode. Was that just a random look cast out in the distance? Hats off to Elizabeth Mitchell for cooking up such a subtle scowl, I would bet money that is her ‘I’d like to see you dead’ look. So who was on the other end of that stare? Through the miracle of telemetry I have figured out just who it is that Juliet is hating on, and like a good LOST misdirection, I’m gonna make you wade through the rest of my easter egg round up to get it. Oh, and keep checking back throughout the day because there is something really weird I may or may not have discovered that will blow your mind. Soon! I promise!

Well Desmund makes sense. They got info on all of the 815ers and he wasn’t one of them. SO she is probably wondering who the hell he is.

Just wanted your thoughts on the final scene showing Juliet tying a knot. What type of knot was it? It also had a shape of a vertical infinity symbol…as in never ending. Seemed to focus on in on this with some meaning behind it. Or just wishful thinking on my part.

I took it to be symbolic of the trap (i.e. noose) that Juliet and the Others were setting for the survivors.
Comment by Skoks — April 12, 2007 @ 10:03 am
I agree with Skoks.
I’m a big fan Doc but it seems fairly obvious that she’s looking at the 815ers and then turns her back to them before making her menacing face.
I think the real questions is what the Others now want with the beach bums. They got Jack to do the surgery, Juliet proved that her meds worked when Claire had her baby and they got Locke to join up. I figure the only thing left is total disposal of the 815ers.
I also don’t think Jack is using Juliet because he knows she’s a spy. You know Jacks overwhelming urge to always be the hero. She doesn’t want Ben dead; that was all a fix up from the beginning.

Perhaps her “mission” is to incite in-fighting among the 815ers so they can decide if some ambiguous people are “good” or “bad.”

That stare could just be the gathering of courage needed to betray all of these “innocent” pawns in a cosmic game of chess. or…
Desmond could represent everything that has gone wrong for the others. Eliminating him also eliminates the source of their reversal of fortune.

Doc, I love you.

The knot Juliet was making i believe is called a Square Knot known for its tight holding properties. Secondly, i dont believe that glare was anything menacing at all. Juliet is the closest thing to a human being out of the others and im sure its getting to her that she does have to betray them and takes Jacks good gesture and stick it somewhere.

if you look at her eyes for awhile, you can see something that says reget. Possible showing us that in a week something bad is going to happen?

She definitely wasn’t glaring at anyone. When I noticed the not at the end of the episode I thought of Shakespeare, “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.” I think Juliet will eventually turn on Ben because Locke will eventually reveal that neither Jack nor Juliet were actually going to be able to leave the Island, or Desmond will (which I’m surprised he didn’t speak up during the debate of Juliet), or the return of Michael and Walt will. However, I believe shortly afterward she’ll meet Smokey face to face again, but there weren’t be a barrier between them.

I believe that Jack and Juliet are working together against the others. In the scene where Jack and Juliet are following Sayid and Kate back to the beach. Juliet tells Jack “My people chained Sayid to a swing set for three days, I dragged Kate into the jungle and handcuffed myself to her then lied about it” If Jack knows that Juliet dragged Kate out into the jungle, then he knows that the others never gassed her and that they never “left her behind”. I think Jack knows all about the plan that Ben and Juliet talked about at the end of the episode.

Good catch Scott.
I noticed something else that may indicate they were working together. I’m sorry I don’t have the exact quote, I have a horrible memory for that:
Right after the dialoge you mentioned, she asks how long it would take to accept her. Then Jack gives her a knowing look and says “A couple of hours”. Que Claire’s attack and Juliet saves the day!
Pretty thin I know, but by Lost standards it may hold up.

That’s a great catch Scott. I never thought of it that way, but then wouldn’t Kate know too? Sayid was the only one really trying to get answers. Maybe the three of them are in on something (the removal of Ben?). Et tu Brute…
Comment by cap10tripps — April 14, 2007 @ 12:18 am
Kate was knocked out from the gas and didn’t wake up until they were already in the jungle. Juliet told Kate that she was gassed too. If Kate would have known anything about “the plan” she wouldn’t have reacted the way she did when Juliet pulled out the key to the handcuffs.
Comment by Scott — April 14, 2007 @ 7:48 am
Yes Scott, but as soon as Juliet took out the keys, Kate knows she lied (was not gassed). Also, her mentioning this fact to Jack would indicate (if what you say is true) that either Kate knows of the plan or suspects one…

Juliette’s conversation with Jack is called exposition. It is shown for the benefit of the viewer.
Some of you have to remember this is fiction– not real life. There are going to be specific and intentional reasons characters reveal information and sometimes it is assumed– to the benefit of the reader/viewer– that these reasons will be understood.
Comment by D — April 14, 2007 @ 3:25 pm
I know what exposition is D, but the writers of LOST have a habit of putting seemingly insignifigant bits of conversation into the episodes that later turn out to be quite revelatory. I think Kate suspects something is going on but I don’t think Jack or Juliet has let her in on it.
Comment by Scott — April 14, 2007 @ 7:16 pm
Or the writers are listening to viewer complaints– kind of like how Nikki and Paulo were killed because nerd viewers flipped out before their story was told. I’m really curious how this season would have panned out if they were used as intended.

This is a minor point, but the paperwork that Ben gives Juliette shows an EKG, which is basically a recording of the electrical activity of the heart over time. An EKG in no way would indicate cancer or not.
Comment by Dan — April 15, 2007 @ 8:59 am
I think it must be reiterated that this show is not real life, and if a prop can immediately and simply simulate the real thing, then why not use it?
You’re beating yourself over the head if you examine every little detail and raise questions as to whether it has significance or not. Parsimony is your friend.

That is a good point, Dan. That medical chart had EKG (or EEG) strips on it. Instead , we should be seeing blood test results for tumor markers, etc. It is POSSIBLE, however, that if Rachel had brain cancer, the tumor might have interfered with her EEG readings …

I don’t think Juliet is “glaring” at anyone in particular. She has a day-dreamy look in her eyes while she is going thru the motions of fixing up her lean-to/shelter.
I think she is contemplating the task given to her by Ben that will play out over a week’s time … which might turn out to be something horrific.
She is guarded, that Juliet. I would hate to play poker with her.
