Doc’s Easter Eggs of the Ludicrous Variety
Okay… I’m having a MiSfIt moment. (or is that mIsFiT?) I have checked and double checked with the best video sources I can find on the internet and I keep coming back to the same conclusion. Ben knows the mysterious parachutist who will be featured next week, and he’s a writer. While these too egg / theories have nothing to do with each other, they both were prompted by the same screen-cap, so there you have it.
First the easy part: Ben is a writer. Why would it matter that Ben is a writer? I’m sure we’ll get a million theories out of that question. The reason why I believe this is two books in his collection that are popular amongst writers. First is "Writers Choice" which is sort of an "Elements of Style" on steroids, and commonly kept within reach of writers like myself - who prefer heads full of myths to heads full of rules. And the other is the infamous "Word power", which is sort of a ‘functional’ thesaurus that boosts your vocabulary, but also teaches context.
Now the parachutist, this is the obvious one, isn’t it? There are tons of pictures of Alex spread around the house, yet no matter how much I try to make this picture equal Alex, it doesn’t happen for me. Alex is dark complected, but this girl is much darker complected and with straighter hair than any of the pictures of Alex. I’ve retrieved the cleanest shot I can get here and put a couple of pictures of Marsha Thompson, who will be playing Naomi, up for comparison.
Would they give us a hint like this so early on in the game? Is that even remotely feasible? Is that a picture of Alex with some distorting light and shadow things going on? Or am I onto something. Perhaps the MiSfiT will bring order to this chaos.

What about comparing it with the picture of Alex on the desk? Match?
Comment by elixirmm — April 12, 2007 @ 10:57 am
Doc, I just compared the photos with IE 7 Magnify option and I believe that both the picture on the desk and the photo in the top left corner are Alex. Check the shape of the mouth. Yes, It’s possible that there is a shadow casting over the frame, I even thought she may have been wearing glasses at first. But, I’m going to say that it’s Alex…..
Comment by elixirmm — April 12, 2007 @ 11:07 am
Yeah, I think you’re crazy. That’s definitely not the parachutist. Although… it would explain a few things. The next two episodes are stellar.
Ooga booga!

Gotta say. That looks like a childhood pic of Alex to me. I studied it for a minute and it really does.
Comment by RSL — April 12, 2007 @ 11:15 am
Also… A childhood pic of Alex [read: Tania Raymonde] can be from a beach vacation where you’d be a lot darker than usual. Or _any_ explanation actually.
Comment by RSL — April 12, 2007 @ 11:17 am
Yeah, you need to get your glasses checked. It IS Alex.
Comment by Furry Palms — April 12, 2007 @ 11:23 am
Y’know… it really looks like Michael Jackson to me, but let’s not go there. Seriously though, no need to admonish me… with a title like ‘Doc’s Easter Eggs of the Ludicrous Variety’, you can’t possibly think I was expecting you to take it too seriously.
Comment by docarzt — April 12, 2007 @ 11:28 am
Is that Michael Jackson?

No Jackass, it’s LaToya

What the hell is your problem!? Why would you spost spoilers like that on the main page. Thanks a lot Doc. You just ruined it for me,.
Comment by Brian — April 12, 2007 @ 12:19 pm
One strange occurrance that took place in this last episode that I think may be noteworthy: Juliet claims that Clair’s is the first successful birth on the island. If the timelines are correct, then wouldn’t Danielle’s birth of Alex be on the island?
That would mean that Juliet doesn’t know that Alex was born on the island. It would also lead one to assume that she didn’t know that Ben was born on the island? She would either have to not know that, or be aware of an event or occurance in which people began to have these pregnancy difficulties, which gives credence to the theory that the “incident” was when this type of thing began.
All in all, since Ben claims to have been born on the island, it sheds more light on his fear of the diminishing grace of the island or whoever is producing these mystical occurances. Jacob?
Another quick thought to ponder:
I can buy that through the flame station, Micahel(sp) was able to dig up a detailed history on each of the 815ers, but even with today’s technology, I think the CIA would have a trying time discerning things like exactly how many people Sayid had tortured or the fact that Sawyer killed someone in cold blood just before he got on the plane? I’m pretty sure these things aren’t readily available on the internet or even satellite surveylance unless they had so many satellites that one could be looking at or zooming in on any area of the earth at any point in time which seems (albeit I am no expert) pretty unreasonable. So although they might have revealed a small amount of how the others are so informed…they hardly touched the bigger mystery around it in my opinion. What are your thoughts?
Comment by Harbringer — April 12, 2007 @ 12:45 pm
Ummmmm hopefully your kidding Brian because this is speculation, not spoilers, all information came from yesterday’s episode and the preview for next weeks episode. I wouldn’t consider casting information to be a spoiler unless the character’s name was “Guy who kills jack in the finale”
Comment by docarzt — April 12, 2007 @ 1:01 pm
Harbinger,
Juliet was lying. She knew good and well that Claire’s baby and Claire herself were fine. Ben acknowledged that an implant was activated to cause her to be sick.
The real sickness only occurs in those that conceive on the island. Those babies cannot be carried to term. The only confirmed births on the island are a result of the mother being pregnant before arriving on the island.
The implant is another method of control for the others. They (or Dharma) created this sickness through implants. The purpose was to get the subjects to believe in the conditions of the test.
Comment by TabulaRasa — April 12, 2007 @ 1:11 pm
@ docarzt: “you can’t possibly think I was expecting you to take it too seriously.”… “Don’t tell me what I can’t do!” Heh.
Comment by RSL — April 12, 2007 @ 1:26 pm
Harbringer, I like the way you think. However since the “incident” is mentioned in the Swan orientation video and it is dated 1980 then the “incident” would had to have happened prior to 1980. The oldest I would imagine Alex to be would be about 20, meaning that she was born in 1984.
But, your theory does prove that something happened to change things on the island. Either that or Danielle is full of crap. Which is also highly likely.
As long as we’re talking about parenting. I’m a little confused how Sun is going to find out who the father is next week. I think that what the spoiler actually means is that the viewers are going to find out who the father is through some sort of flashback. Either that or Jack is going to fashion a pre-natal paternity test from a coconut. If that’s the case I hope the islanders find out that it’s Sayid because he’s just so bad ass. When they question him about it i’m sure he’ll reply “I am Sayid, I am a torturer…and a lover”, then strut off down the beach humming Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” under his breath.
Comment by thefallguy1 — April 12, 2007 @ 1:35 pm
I think what Juliet said to Sayid and Sawyer was said to intentionally point out that the others have another, almost psychic way of getting information about the Losties. Either that, or the Losties have all been watched, and are on the Island for a specific reason, which is seeming more and more likely.
Comment by Jimmy Zero — April 12, 2007 @ 1:35 pm
Throughout Juliet’s flashabck during the last episode that was to the time when the plane crashed she was holding a Stephen King book that had, I presume, been the topic of her book club meeting. Now, Juliet always held the book showing the front cover to the camera on two or three occasions but not once did she show the title of it - it was a blue covered book, can anyone shed any light upon what the book was and whether it has any wider meaning to why or how the 815er’s crashed or even what may lay in store for them? It’s probably nothing but i thought i’d see if anyone had noticed anything similar?
Comment by Echo — April 12, 2007 @ 2:05 pm
I don’t think the survivors were being watched prior to being on the Island. The smoke monster is psychic and maybe the others have some way of communicating with the smoke monster. Maybe Jacob is the only one who can talk to the monster…
Comment by Charlie Lesoine — April 12, 2007 @ 2:11 pm
On the subject of implants, let’s not forget the “fake” implant that they injected into Sawyer. I’d say that after learning what we have this past episode, that there is a good chance that it wasn’t fake at all, but that in fact just serves a different purpose then what they told him.

Henry Gail’s note on the $20 dollar bill… was it addressed to Naomi or am I thinking of something else?
Comment by Pitchy — April 12, 2007 @ 2:13 pm
nevermind that… found it on lostpedia, Henry’s letter is addressed to Jennifer, not Naomi.

“The smoke monster is psychic and maybe the others have some way of communicating with the smoke monster. Maybe Jacob is the only one who can talk to the monster…”
Maybe Jacob IS the smoke monster. It’s a code name for a central computer intelligence or something.
Comment by TrillianM — April 12, 2007 @ 2:20 pm
I just wanted to point out that I think it’s been confirmed now that there ARE other others on the Island. When Juliet and Ben went to Mikhail’s place, the plane had only JUST crashed. Ben had to approach cautiously and ask Mikhail not to shoot, as if that is what he is regularly prepared to do. And that’s the regular protocol, it could only be if there ARE OTHER others on the island. Otherwise, the others had been the only ones on the Island for God knows how long (well, aside from Danielle), and they wouldn’t need to be prepared to shoot if someone approached, cause it could practically only be one of their own.
Comment by Johobi — April 12, 2007 @ 3:26 pm
First of all, Johobi, great catch! Not sure if it 100% means that there are 2 groups of others (Maybe Mikail would be shooting to kill approaching polar bears, crash survivors, Danielle… or maybe only certain others are allowed to be there) but still, great thought.
Now, here is mine… and I warn all of you right now
HUGE SPOLIER! Do NOT read if you don’t want to be spolied about THE END OF THE ENTIRE SERIES!!!
Still with me? I thought so. I have it on VERY good authority (my own angry mind) that this is exactly what will go down.
For another whole season or two or three, the mysteries will continue. The smoke monster will torment people, the losties will have their smaller inter-group battles, the Others and Dharma will continue to preform weird actions and operations, and the mysteries of the island overall (where is it, why can’t it be seen, etc) will mount unanswered. Flash forward to the series FINALE.
The losties finally wage a full out war on the others. As they all gear up to go smoke the others out and finally get some answers, a large boat shows up and it is.. Penny Widmore. The site of the boat of course stops all action on the Lostie’s beach, and Desmond realizes who has arrived. When Penny comes ashore and offers Desmond a way home, he tearfully accepts and invites the rest of the losties along. They of course accept and all board the boat. As they’re boarding, Ben shows up and says “Hey… don’t mention this whole “mysterious medical civilization on the island” thing okay… please?” and the losties, in their usual stupid way, say “duh… okay Benny!”
The boat sails off, credits roll, and Damon and Carlton laugh at all of us fans who have spent 5 or 6 years obsessing over answers that never come. Months later, Damon and Carlton are found beaten to death in a dark alley by what looks suspiciously like a telivision set that has been smashed in to a million pieces from being used as a weapon. On the alley wall, written in blood will be one name: Docarzt
Did you get chills?

No, I’m not kidding. I think knowing that parachutist is going to land on the island is a pretty big spoiler. Thanks a whole lot.
Comment by Brian — April 12, 2007 @ 3:58 pm
Another weird thing I noticed was that Ben said he would cure Juliet’s sisters cancer. But what role could he play if she’s not on the island with him and he’s obviously not a scientist in the same field?
Comment by Charlie Lesoine — April 12, 2007 @ 4:16 pm
Brian… a spoiler is information that has not been publicly released. The parachutist is the preview for next weeks episode and is listed in preview for next weeks Lost. Not spoiler. I don’t mean this in the mean way, but if you are that sensitive to spoilers you should avoid the web. This is all sanctioned, ABC released material that anybody who watched LOST through the credits saw.

What if Ben wrote all of the “memories” of the survivors? That all the flashbacks we have seen were put into the members of flight 815 by him.

WHAT’S GOING ON!!!!!?!????? Fill us in here!!!! The people at ainticoolnews.com are causing madness by reporting that the finale will be a Jack-back and 3.20 will actually be a ben-back. They reported this only hours ago! Meanwhile, one of the future episodes DOESN’T EVEN HAVE A FLASHBACK!!!!!
WHAT’S GOING ON????!!!! IS THIS STUFF LEGIT??? HELP!!!!

Comment by jobe — April 12, 2007 @ 7:12 pm
hey johobi im pretty sure mikail would be shooting at many different things but the Dharma was on the island also and from what i can guess he was in one of their sectors. Was it proven that the others are Dharma because i dont think it was and if so he was prob defending himself from Dharma because he would have had to take it from Dharma in the first place. But i also agree with the idea that there is a third group of others on the island.
Comment by DMS — April 12, 2007 @ 7:49 pm
We know that there are skydrops to the island for Dharma supplies. We know the others come and go albeit for only specific purposes. We know an airstrip has not been seen, however the lab complex had an airport of sorts - even though they prefer sub travel. Maybe now the only way to get more Dharma people to the island is via skydrop. Hence the parachutist.
This person has to arrive in one of two ways: Either an emergency (another airtime disaster) or on purpose. I can’t foresee another air disaster and there just happening to be someone well prepared with a parachute.
And since I don’t think there are many skydiving classes held over the east-jibip of the the pacific I think it’s safe to say that she is with Dharma.
Also, sorry for my rambling…But I’d like to call attention back to When Ben told Sawyer that he needed to earn his respect for something he needed from him. That was a long trip back down the mountain - So what was needed? What was that discussion about? Has Sawyer made a deal with Ben?
Comment by Dan — April 13, 2007 @ 9:39 am
Also too think about this….Why was Kate and Sawyer so important to Ben that he “would never make a deal to let them go”???
Pray-tell has their little escapade resulted in a little baby ‘runnin from the law con’? Think back to Kate not wanting to be “Eve”; being asked by Sun if she ever took a pregnancy test?; And running from Nathan Fillion when she thought she might be graced by the ‘pink’ stripe!?
This would add a ticking time bomb to the plot since obviously none of the other are going to get their loved ones pregnant knowing the results…but two losties now, they’re expendable!!!!!
That would be an excellent way to end the season, Bring out some true colors in Sawyer, and put a nine-month ticking clock on our beloved Kate.
Maybe since Ben knew the deed was done, he knew he could let them go for a time. Juliet is on the cusp of making a breakthrough but needs to take Kate back. Jack is mentally still with the Losties, but his medical expertice may be needed to help save Kate but on the Other’s terms….
ohhhh this is getting good!!!!
Comment by Dan — April 13, 2007 @ 9:45 am
Dan, that is the best theory I’ve heard so far. I agree that Kate and Sawyer were set up to fornicate and that Kate, not Sun is going to be Juliet’s guinea pig next season.
Comment by Chris — April 13, 2007 @ 10:01 am
she’s on match.com?
you put the arrow right over her face so I can’t tell who it is.
I want to know what the deal with that giant 4-toe’d foot is. Has everyone forgotten about that. Also…the dharma symbol is symbolic in asian culture. It represents a protective force. I think it’s supposed to look like a turtles shell. People hang them to fend off bad spirits. And I believe the demons in some buddhist sects have 4 toes…you usually see statues of them outside of temples. Add that stuff up with the meaning of the word dharma and it may sum to something. It could also just be nonsense :-/
Anyhow, next weeks episode should be insane-o-brain-o.
tnx for the info.

Our parachutist, Naomi, is new to LOST, and is not ALEX (duh). She is Marsha Thomason, from the first two years of “Las Vegas”. This lovely lass from Manchester played the spunky Pit Boss on that show and is now a welcomed newbie in the Dharma/Other web of deceipt.

her presence is confirmed on many legitimate (non-weblog) websights.

I just can’t tell. Are you actually unaware that my post was a joke, or are you joking (as well) and even worse at conveying it than I am?
I know which one I’m voting.
You didn’t REALLY take my post seriously did you? The “your brain is spoiled” was as well thought out as it was clever. If you don’t like the joke, feel free to ignore it. If you were actually upset by the lack of a spoiler (after the fake spoiler warning) than you need to examine your priorities in life.
