Name The Spoiler Hatch!
After much consideration, I’ve decided to add steady spoiler coverage back to TheTailsection’s editorial calendar. Judging by the literally dozens of Emails I get weekly on the subject, I’m guessing this is going to be a popular decision. I thought it would be cool if we ran the spoiler section as a separate page to protect those who don’t want so much as a hint of a spoiler, and to give addicts a quick way to catch up on what is going on. What should we name this place? I’m open to your suggestions.
I’m also instituting a new feature called "The Purge" which will be debuting shortly. I will keep its purpose a mystery for the time being, but suffice to say it addresses yet another content deficiency many of you have railed on me about.

Heh, thanks Doc! One more extra diversion to keep me from getting work done.

Please let the Purge be a place for all Jack/Kate/Sawyer relationship comments. Those who seem to only care about that tired storyline have ruined every other board on the web.

I like the Flash Hatch idea.
Other ideas…
The Eye (since you can see it now)
The Dark Cloud (since its stuff thats covered up still)
The Fridge (cuz if the stuff gets out, its spoiled - lame, I know)
The Pearl (since that is the Dharma Monitoring Station they used to spy on the Losties)

I second The Magic Box.
Maybe it’s time for another poll once you’ve gotten a decent number of suggestions?
Comment by Dak — April 3, 2007 @ 3:26 pm
The Shadow (since however much you try to ignore spoilers, there always there, ready to jump out at you)
The Unmentionable (as they’re secrets and shouldn’t be mentioned, as some do not want to know)
The Sreliops (work it out, LOst has plenty of em!)
The Diamond (after Paulo and Nikki, and because most spoilers are considered gems or diamonds of knowledge)
The Clock (as they tell you secrets ahead of time)

Trying to tie in one of the best characters on the showso how about the “Locke Box”
Comment by bdub — April 3, 2007 @ 5:39 pm
Hey, has anyone noticed that on IMDb, if you go to the cast list of future episodes of LOST, Nikki is listed as a cast member? And just in case you think she might just be in flashbacks- Paulo isn’t listed.
Comment by Sara — April 3, 2007 @ 5:45 pm
G-d da– you Sara. The whole point of this article is to aknowledge that there is a need to put spoilers on a whole nother page, and there you go just throwing stuff in front of everyones eyes without a warning.
As for the name,
how ’bout the Spoiled Station.(in reference to all the “stations” on the island.)
Comment by Dr. Nope — April 3, 2007 @ 5:56 pm
I like “The Black Box” and “The Forensic Hatch”, can I toss in another suggestion or two or three?

“JACOB’S MESSAGE/BOX”
“FIRST CLASS FLYERS”
“SMOKE SIGNALS”
“ZOMBIE ISLAND”

Just name it the Spoiler Station. Include a warning that ‘here be spoilers’. When someone clicks the link to it, they should get a warning page telling them that (really) there will be spoilers. They can click a link to continue or click a link to return. It should be as clear as possible I think.
That way if they get to the spoiler station, there is little reason to bitch about it. They had ample warning and knew what they were doing.

I’m for Black Box. It keeps the whole plane-box-information motif together in one.

The Gnosis hatch
The word gnosis (from the Greek word for knowledge) refers to a Hellenic philosophical term for knowledge. It is also used to mean a form of spiritual knowledge that is more commonly familiar to people as enlightenment. Also stated as direct knowledge of God through awareness of the divine spark within. (Remember the Jacob story with the spoon?)
Gnosis was the privileged “knowledge of the heart” or “insight” about the spiritual nature of the cosmos - people who believed they could achieve this insight. (Locke on the Island).
Gnosis was distinct from the secret teachings they only revealed to initiates (the others) once they had reached a certain level of progression (”Good” people). Rather, these teachings were paths to obtain gnosis. Gnostic ideas of salvation were similar to Buddhist conceptions of enlightenment. (Dharma - the Way of the Higher Truths).

I actually like the idea of the Cockpit. It goes with the plane theme, and its the other part of the plane besides the Fuselage. I dont know that sounds the best to me. A lot of the other ones are good but just dont sound interesting or they sound silly. I mean the Black Box. The popular meaning of that is a small stage painted black in most colleges and universities.

I like the Locke Box or Flashes Before Your Eyes.
Comment by aslanscubs — April 4, 2007 @ 5:37 am
Doc you rule. Thanks for putting it on a seperate page. I love the site but have a HARD freaking time skipping the spoilers. Should make it a lot easier for me this way. Out of site out of mind.
Comment by TrillianM — April 4, 2007 @ 6:09 am
I kinda like “The Black Box” Personally I would like to add “The Eye Opener” Often when major things are about to happen on the show, you have a close-up on an eye opening. Someone did suggest “the Eye” which is very good as well.
Comment by era_of_mattitude — April 4, 2007 @ 6:12 am
* The Whispers
* The Eye
* Revelations
Comment by jvince — April 4, 2007 @ 8:17 am
I would like to extend The Magic Box again for consideration OR just call it the Spoilers Hatch, since newcomers to the site won’t have any idea what it is unless it’s spelled out to them. Which is my logic for avoiding your myspace page. How old are you, Doc?? ahahahahahahahahhaha

My vote: The Black Box.
Keeps the plane theme, keeps the “magic box” theme, implies hidden knowledge of what’s really going on.
It also isn’t specific to one single cast member or storyline - it’s for the whole show. I don’t think it should have a cast member’s name in it.
Comment by Scott — April 4, 2007 @ 9:59 am
Not sure why this couldn’t have a characters name in it. If you view Locke as just a character on the show then you are underestimating his importance to the island. Besides, this very site is named after one section of the plane that does not come close to covering the whole show. It seems to work since this is by far the best Lost site there is, in my opinion. Doc does not disapoint and I’m sure he’ll please us all no matter what the name is.
Comment by bdub — April 4, 2007 @ 11:25 am
A poll might be good for this too.
Comment by bdub — April 4, 2007 @ 11:26 am
How about simply “Flashes.” This is how Desmond refers to his visions, and it would be kind of like we were having “flashes” of what is to come. I also think it would go well with “The Purge,” as they are signifigant aspects of our beloved show…
Comment by cap10tripps — April 4, 2007 @ 12:08 pm
What about “Pandora’s Box”? And just a thought… In the video that Karl was watching in room 23 in ‘Not in Portland’ it says ‘God loves you as He loved Jacob’ (exact grammer) 1st He is spelt with a capital letter, 2nd Loved is in the past tense, as if Jacob no longer exists. I might be getting a bit deep about this but what the hey.
Comment by Ben's Wheelchair — April 5, 2007 @ 6:44 am
Since the stations are primary named for mythical creatures or elements, how abouut naming it the Medusa station or the Medusa hatch. This should warn everyone about looking too closely.

Doc
You could call your spoiler section the Lost and Found Department.

I first thought of “Future Flashes”
But I also like the “Spoiler Hatch” or “Spoiler Station”
I also agree with the suggestion to make it EXPLICIT that there be spoilers ahead!
