Thanks for posting up the promo nice and quick, Doc!
Expose was one of those clear signs that the writers slash producers are bitter about the fact that they have to extend the show to five seasons to appease the network, or perhaps the lead actors. I think that they have/had plenty of great material to wrap up the story well in four seasons (or maybe three) but here’s our filler material for the extension.
Either that, or they just like joking with the audience.
Clearly, the writers hated writing in Nikki and Paulo as much as the viewers did having the characters shoved in suddenly. Heck, they seemed to revel in their deaths (or at least Nikki’s)… How many times did we get to see her almost die in that one episode, and then get buried potentially alive?
I thought it was cute that they worked in the Heroin Missionary Plane and Pearl Station to grind our teeth about those two. And of course, the appearance of Leslie was much appreciated.
Next week’s episode already looks like filler too…
And as much as it sounds like I hated Expose, I actually truly enjoyed the episode.

There was definitely a lot of catharsism going on, wasn’t there! I think as much for the writers/producers as the actors! That “C’mon, we all know what happens to guest stars” line had to be a real yucker on the set.

Did anyone else pay extra special attention to Locke telling Paulo that “nothing stays buried on this island” and about the tide eroding the beach? I have a little hunch we’re not done with Nikki and Paulo.

What a useless episode Expos
Comment by Ed — March 28, 2007 @ 10:05 pm
well didn’t we see Zombie Nikki in a promo clip? And hasn’t it been said that only ONE person dies tonight? I have a feeling that Nikki either digs her way out… or that December Tsunami arrives and helps with that “eroding”… who knows.

At the very end of the promo, Kate snaps back her head in pain as if someone were pulling her hair.
Who do you think breaks up the fight?
My money’s on Sayid or Rousseau.
Comment by Guy — March 28, 2007 @ 10:08 pm
as a side note, I don’t think this episode lived up to all of its hype. It kind of let me down

Can someone please tell me what the big island myhtology reveal was in expose?????????.
I take it was meant to be that we found out that ben and the rest were spying on jack and co. from the pearl station well we sort of guessed that already!. True it was good to put this to bed once and for all but as far as big revealtions go this was a let down!.
Couple of classic line in this episode
1) when Hurley says Niki’s dead and Sawyers all like who the hells Nikki? lol!
2) when Nikki mentions
“we all know what happens to guest stars!” yes very postmodern cuse and co.
but finally something for you guys to ponder over did the creators offer us a little insight into when we shall finally meet the elusive Jacob?.
When Hurley’s looking over the script for expose and he says: Whoa! we find out who the cobra is!
and charlie’s all like : so?
then Hurley says : the cobra’s is like this big bad guy who we dont get to meet until four seasons into the show!????????? huh a little indication as to when we shall meet the elusive Jacob? It fits with the way theyre currently unravelling the mysteries for him to make an appearance around season 4 time!
All in all expose was a huge stinking FILLER! but like an above poster said i actually quite enjoyed it! Nothing to do with Nikki stripping at the beginning though!
Comment by 24Luke — March 29, 2007 @ 12:21 am
“OHH! IT’S FILLER!”
“OOOOH!!! I HATE FILLER!”
jeez, if they didn’t have filler, ABC would fire the writers and hire new ones who would write even MORE damn fillers, just to make sure they squeeze as much money as they can out of this show.
Instead of complaining, why not praise the damn thing? I mean, I, for one, actually thought they worked them in pretty good. All those classic scenes and places Paulo and Nikki got into- hah, and we thought Locke and Eko were treading new ground.
As for the big mythology reveal-
It was as EVERYONE was saying in the episode- it was the monster. I’m not sure if you guys heard or not, but when Nikki was gloating above Paulo, she looked up because she heard something. It was right before the spiders came out: the -sound- of the smoke monster. Spiders don’t make noise like that, the monster does. So what does the monster do? Conjure itself into those tiny spiders to make sure Nikki goes down too. Why? Because the island isn’t pleased that Nikki, despite Paulo’s begging, spited him anyway.
The monster killed Eko because he wouldn’t reconcile or something- the monster has morals. Perhaps it could tell Nikki was a bitch, and decided to give her a dose of her own medicine too.
The monster could be anyone. Listen for the noise.
Comment by Donut — March 29, 2007 @ 1:13 am
Errrrr if you actually read my comment Donut? You would have seen that i said even though it was a filler episode i actually quite enjoyed it!
And i did consider the smoke monster manifesting itself into the spiders actually! But yet again if this is meant to be a big reveal we already knew as much when Yemi spoke to Eko before killing him!
Comment by 24Luke — March 29, 2007 @ 1:58 am
I didn’t realise that was the monster noise - I thought it was generic “spider rustling” noises. What can I say, I’m an arachnophobe who probably watches too many crappy old movies! I agree though, it does seem like it was the monster. Not happy about the two being buried alive though - that’s two of my major fears in one episode! Too much!
The promo for next week isn’t too intriguing, but I’m hoping the episode will be more than “OMG KATE/JULIET CATFIGHT YAY!”. Ahem.

I really disagree with the smoke monster theory. Specific mention was made that any small release of the female spider hormone would attract every male in the area… I think that’s just what happened when Paulo smashed the spider.
My curiousity is peaked by the suggestion that Locke’s comment about the beach eroding is going to play into Nikki and Paulo’s graves washing out! My first thought was that some things mentioned in this epi were just to “refresh” our memory… I do recall from season one Sayid noticing the beach was shrinking faster than normal, I guess lending itself to the tsunami predictions or weather stuff, but now perhaps it was the writers letting us know that information will again be significant in upcoming developments? There were a few other parts of the episode (I don’t recall exactly right now) that hit me as “remember this from a while back… keep it in mind” type moments. Anyone else?
Another observation… Charlie’s reveal to Sun seemed like a convenient “quick” wrap-up to that whole triangle. Simply because the writers didn’t want it in our heads anymore, nor did they feel like developing it further. I HIGHLY doubt it will ever be touched on again in a significant way… i.e. Locke being informed, etc. — something that would probably come up in the “real world”.
Comment by Dave — March 29, 2007 @ 5:29 am
Did antone else notice Rose laying on the beach during one of the post-crash scenes last night? If it was her, I guess it puts the Paolo & Nikki replacing Rose & Bernard theory to bed.
Comment by Pete317 — March 29, 2007 @ 6:41 am
I AGREEE with the smoke monster theory. There definitely was the smoke monster sound right before Nikki got bitten and they showed the shot of the swarm of spiders moving towards her. Watch it again and you’ll hear that it is there.
Comment by Nate — March 29, 2007 @ 6:55 am
I couldn’t believe I was going to bed last night angry because of a stupid television show. Alas, I was.
There was no revelation! There was no mythology! I think several of the theories on this website that i’ve read this past week were much more creative than what was on the actual show. That’s why I may have to consider quitting thetailsection for a while. Not because there’s anything wrong with the site, but I was really built up for a huge let down.
Comment by thefallguy1 — March 29, 2007 @ 7:22 am
I really liked this episode.
Nikki stripped. oh yeah!
Razzle dazzle!
It always bugged me how Shannon knew about the key for the gun case, well now i know. it was great to see her, Arzt and Boone again too. I also liked the further clarification about why Kate and Sawyer were taken and from a screen cap i can make out that the stuff on the desk in the pearl station is cigarettes. it was also really cool to see the crash again as well as crappy Ethan. I loved that ending too, that is fucked up.

When Paulo is in the bathroom hiding the diamonds, you see the lights turn on, and hear Ben ask “who left the door open”? Juliet says “Tom was down here a few days ago”. Ben replies, “have them cover it up with the plane”.
WOW. Obviously they didn’t need to. Boon took care of that. Or should I say, The Island took care of that. I cant help but think that the island was preserving itself by allowing boon to cover the hatch with the plane. Its a large coincidence non-the-less.
Oh, and I listened to the spider scene in the jungle like 100 times. I can hear spider rustling sounds over the monsters clicking rattle-snake noise.
By the way, I wanted SO BADLY for Paulo to find a pack of Dharma Cigarettes and smoke a few before he left, explaining the butts on the tray outright. But I guess what I got was fulfilling enough.
Comment by Majintopcat — March 29, 2007 @ 8:34 am
what on earth makes you think the spiders were in fact smokey??? Was anyone actually listening to what was said in this episode???
Im sure Damon and Carlton are banging their heads against brick walls right now, in amazement at how dumb the average Lost viewer is!
Comment by Roger Work Man — March 29, 2007 @ 9:27 am
Actually… maybe the spiders WERE smokey. People believe that smokey manifests itself from dead bodies (jack’s dad, yemi), so maybe when Paulo squished the spider and killed it, it took that form.
And the others burn their dead bodies and send them out to see so that Smokey doesn’t get them…
Hm… what if the beach erodes, and all of the buried Lostie bodies are uncovered!?! I can see a “Night of the living dead”!
Or what if Smokey takes Ms Klugh or Mikhail?
Smokey may very well be Locke’s dad as well… but then, he might need to be dead, wouldn’t he… I have a feeling that within the fence, the others are able to control smokey? maybe? nah wait my mind’s drifting too far.

@Majintopcat
I didn’t hear them say that, very cool imo.

you lot are weak…yes it was a filler episode…but we’ve had tones of filler eps (S.O.S prime example) that where god awful an dull…this may not have been a great lost mystery episode…but i thought it was great…an enticing 40 minutes of television, with a great ending, good acting, lots of nice little tie ins (why paolo went to the toilet, etc etc) an the answer everyone seems to be forgetting…did ben get himself caught?…seems like it, although not exactly proved, it heavily hints at it…..all in all, as good as a nicky paolo episode could possibly be….you lot r too hard to please…you seem to want all the answers given an the show to end

The plane had already fallen by that point and was on the ground obviously very near the hatch.

If the episode of expose was recorded 84 days ago, how did Locke watch it 4 years ago. And also wasn’t this episode supposed to be the jump the shark episode? Nothing major happened.
Comment by Martin — March 29, 2007 @ 2:16 pm
That is a very good question. How did Locke see the episode four years ago?
Comment by Chandler — March 29, 2007 @ 2:33 pm
They were recording season 4 of expose, locke could of seen any old episode of expose.

Doc,
this has little to do with lost, but i didn’t know where else to post it, so here go…
gotta say i’m a little shocked right now.
I was going through some buddyTV stuff and an article caught my eye on Heather Mills maybe quitting Dancing with the Stars.
to my surprise when i got the end of the article, you wrote the article. so i looked harder only to see that your doing the recaps for that show as well.
This got me wondering, what other shows are you working on for buddyTV? and i hope i’m not revealing a big secret for you:)

The monster is supposed 2 b making a re-apperance in “left behind”

The spiders were NOT the smoke monster. Remember that everything is said for a reason. They introduce the spiders in the flashback and later in the episode you find out that thats how Niki and P are the way they are. Why would they have talked about the male spiders coming to the sent of a female and have it be the “Smoke monster” I don’t think so.
BTW
I think locke’s dads been on the island for awhile as the police in the flashback said that the father “disappeared” could that be a hint…

@24Luke
I’m a bit late on commenting on this post but only one thing that was connected to the mythology in this episode was the Medusa from the greek mythology. One look form Medusa would turn anyone to stone. So i doubt it that smoke monster had to do anything with the mythology in this episode.
