Highly Tenuous Flashback Rumors
Just got this stuff from a supposed ‘insider’. The information is based, supposedly, on story discussions from a while back so it may change quite a bit by the time we see it. I absolutely cannot vouch for the veracity of the info, but it sounds like a lot of fun if it is true:

anyone else think danielle is dharma? she said in exodus that her team got sick and that mctarne?? lost an arm mctarne probably is marvin candle who also is missing an arm.
Comment by thomas muir — March 24, 2007 @ 10:57 am
OMG! If that is even partly true, that episode is going to be a doozy!
Not to bring it up again, but the source also states the “end” episode as being May 30. This would lead to a 24 hr season and a 2 hour finale. Does anyone know the possibility of finales airing after memorial day?

I can’t believe I never put together Montand (I believe it says in Lostpedia) losing his arm and Marvin Candle’s fake arm. I feel so stupid right now! Good call on that one, Thomas!

What would be way cool is if they worked in the only on-island character who would have been an adult in the 70s - Rose.
Can you picture her as a hippie flower-child with a giant afro? That would be cool beans.

yea i couldnt quite get his name right in exodus parkwaysouth but she has to be dharma and her black rock story is some sort of cover

The Swan Station Orientation film is dated to 1980. That’s a good eight years before Danielle and her team arrived on the Island.

we know danielle does lie, she couldnt even explain how her ship got so far inland
Comment by thomas muir — March 24, 2007 @ 5:53 pm
i think danielle was part of a dharma team that included marvin candle.Maybe an experiment went wrong and they lost there team and candles arm or maybe the hostiles came and wiped them out.

if her story were true..which she may believe it is..theres no reason for the others to take the baby and call it alex

I’ve been thinking that Danielle is Dharma since the episode where claire got her memory back, but since the throw I really believe it.
The 3 main points that kept this from becoming a theory to me are this:
-Her confusion, and mistrust of the Losties seems legit, as does her grief over the loss of her child.
-So far nothing in the overall story suggests that she has ever met Alex, even seen her since the kidnapping, until last Wednesday’s ep.
-She seemed to be legit in her confusion and grief over the death of her partners and the kidnapping of her baby daughter. Also, her daughter was actually taken and we know this. We just don’t know how or why.
-She very genuinely was stunned when Hurley shared his belief that the numbers were cursed.
Ok so, knowing what we now know; I can address these issues I had in a way that leaves me 75% certain that shes Dharma, and 75% qualifies as a theory to me
-Ethan, Mikhail, and Ben showed us that they are very capable of using aliases and false histories/motives with the intent to use, mislead, or subvert those that they deem dangerous. Why not Danielle? If shes Dharma or an Other, she probably has an advanced degree in subterfuge and identity theft.
-Perhaps Danielle was a Dharma employee who survived the Purge by not being at the flame when it was raided or was allowed to live because in a moment of weakness she offered up Alex to protect her own life, and has regretted it ever since.
-Could it be that Dharma doesnt understand the signifgance of the Numbers? Or if I’m only half right and she’s an Other, maybe the Others dont know about the Numbers? It boggles the mind.
Yeah, so thats why I’m 75% sure Danielle is either Dharma or an Other. If this was nothing but rambling gibberish, I apologize, it’s 6 a.m and somehow im still drunk from last night.
Also did anyone see on this on Lostpedia?
“Anthony Cooper, Adam Seward” is anagram for “Sawyer, the con man, a poor dad”
BOO-YA! We all knew it, but still.

oops, the first part of my above post, “I’ve been thinking that Danielle is Dharma since the episode where claire got her memory back, but since the throw I really believe it.”
should read: “but since the throwdown at the Flame I really believe it.”
Comment by Jimmy Zer0 — March 25, 2007 @ 3:56 am
i think its obvious she is dharma , why else would she take claires baby in season 1 and offer it to the others as like a sacrifice, if she hadnt done it before with her own baby?, how did she think of the idea of taking claires baby and offering it in the first place? , she knew it would work
Comment by thomas muir — March 25, 2007 @ 5:41 am
alright, well i’m a bit new at posting, but ive been a HUGE fan of your site since the beginning.
i thought for a while that there was a more powerful group of others (i’ll call them first others to be less confusing) who commanded the second, or lesser, others. but when everyone, includng me, assumed that ben was the all-powerful “him”, i pretty much abandoned it. it looks like it might be time to revisit that theory.
i agree with pretty much everything the “expert” says in this post. while reading it, i had an interesting thought- could the whisperers be the first others? maybe they haven’t been able to appear to the survivors so they use that form (just a possibility). and i’m really excited for that supposed flashback episode!
two more things-
a. the animal in the picture in juliet’s hand is definitely a field mouse. and yes, she was able to get male field mice pregnant. it looked like a hamster at first, but if you look at it closely i believe it’s a mouse
b. okay, i dont think danielle’s an other or part of dharma. her story definitely has some holes, but i believe most of it. however, she definitely looked like she recognized mikhail. maybe he was with the other when they took alex.
let me know! =]

I THINK YOU’RE ON TO SOMETHING WITH THE MOUSE RATHER THAN A HAMSTER IDEA. I THINK IT COULD BE A MOUSE- MAKES MORE SENSE THAN A HAMSTER. MAYBE THE ARTIST WASN’T VERY TALENTED AND THE END RESULT IS A MOUSE LOOKING LIKE A HAMSTER.

I just came up with this one a little while ago…
(I was reading some post on a website when it hit me. This is just a theory, but
I think this is a good one. Please challenge me with constructive criticism and
not snot nosed obstinance. (me glares at Knotty… lol just kidding! I love your comments!) but just try and be constructive.)
(Kate is working on Jack’s back. He grimaces in pain as she sews his skin
together.)
KATE: I might throw up on you.
JACK: (shakes his head) You’re doing fine.
(She looks at him.)
KATE: You don’t seem afraid at all. I don’t understand that.
JACK: Well, fear’s sort of an odd thing. When I was in residency, my first
solo procedure was a spinal surgery on a sixteen-year-old kid. A girl. And at
the end, after thirteen hours, I was closing her up, and I — I accidentally
ripped her dural sac. Shredded the base of the spine where all the nerves come
together. Membrane, stenos tissue and … So it ripped open. Nerves just
spilled out of her like angel hair pasta. Spinal fluid flowing out of her, and
I … and the terror was just so … crazy. So real. And I knew I had to deal
with it. (As he talks, tears leak from his eyes.) So I just made a choice.
I’d let the fear in. Let it take over. Let it do its thing. But only for five
seconds. That’s all I was gonna give it. So I started to count. One … two
… three … four … five. Then it was gone. Sewed her up, and she was fine.
Since this iconic moment in LOST History, all the way back in Season 1 Episode 1,
the answer to all of our questions has been explained. Why can Jack sometimes
perform extraordinary medical procedures which should have in no way been
possible? Why can Walt make things happen when he wants them to happen? How
did Locke gain the use of his legs back? How did Rose get cured of cancer? Why
are all of these interconnected people all on the same plane? We have been given
clues up until this point. Our theories have been so close but I really and truly
feel that with this last episode we have the ability to work it out.
So what did we learn in this last episode that is so hugely important? Well good
old Ben mentioned some kind of “Box.” According to Ben, a man with the right
faith and mindset could take anything he wanted from that box. Anything. If the
man wanted it, it was his. Now I think we can all agree that if there was some
kind of small little box, wrapped in wrapping paper, under a holiday tree we
as LOST fans might finally call it quits. So if its not an actual box, what is
it? Well lets look at what that great show Buffy the Vampire Slayer did when they
had an enormously powerful item that needed to be hidden and controlled appropriately,
they made it human. Now back to LOST. What if the box was, in fact, that mysterious
and extraordinary fellow Jacob.
Now lets look at what the implications of Jacob being the “box” means. Well this
means he is psychic. Now hold your horses. Im not talking Jean Gray, The Phoenix,
kinda psychic. I mean someone who has reached spiritual elevation and mental
clarity. Jacob is an ancient and wise being who has reached what we shall call
Nirvana. Being in such a state of mental clarity allows Jacob to bend the way
the Universe works. He can bring what he wants to himself. He can control the
way people interact. He can even shape the strands of Fate. But after Jacob
discovered these abilities he became lonely. He wanted to bring humanity
on this great journey with him. But not everyone is ready. Jacob has devoted
his life to bringing people ready for spiritual awakening to the island.
Not everyone who lands is ready right away, some need prodding. Others are
willing to accept it right off the bat.
But who is ready? Those who are ready have minds unclouded by hate, anger, fear,
or any of those other lovely Pandora’s Box feelings. This is why our good friend
Patchy told Kate, Locke, and Sayid they would not understand how Jacob had
brought him there. Jacob allows the people on the island to try and come to terms
with their pasts, so as to leave these negative feelings behind. Our friend, Mr.
Locke has almost reached that point. His final test is to see if he can forgive
his father. Eko failed the test as he was unwilling to forgive for being flawed.
He accepted his flaws and felt no need to apologize. Boone as Locke said was
a sacrifice the Island demanded. The women who were shot, Shannon, Libby,
and Ana Lucia, were not supposed to die. They had not reached enlightenment
and still had much to do. The killers are going to be punished. Look out Michael.
But what about little Walt. Well Walt was the most special person on the plane.
Walt was born with the abilities of Jacob. This is why the Others wanted him
so badly. He needed to be tested, screened for Jacob. For some reason or another
he was released, possibly until he is old enough and ready.
So who are these Others? The Others were brought to the island by Jacob. He needed
people who would stand forever as his protectors. While Jacob is mentally beyond
any other mortal he is physically weak. However, Jacob’s home was discovered by
the Dharma Initiative. They tried to steal the secrets of the island. They didnt
want to wait for enlightenment. They wanted it now. So they attacked the Others.
However, the Others fought back and won. However, their victory came at a heavy
price. They lost many of their number and so they had to recruit more directly
from the mainland. The leader Ben, however, has become corrupted. He has begun
to feel as Dharma did. Since the Others are the protectors they are not allowed
to reach enlightenment. Jacob has forbidden it. And yet Ben has decided that
this decree is unfair. How could his own faithful servants be kept from the
very power they protect. And so Ben has been plotting to steal this power as well.
Jacob, however, has become increasingly aware of it. This is why Ben has not been
healed of his wounds. Ben senses this and is trying to convert Locke to his side.
It is not clear yet to which side Locke will devote himself to. My bet is with the
island.
So what is the Black Smoke? Didn’t I say? Its Jacob. Jacob can manifest
as the Black Smoke in order to better read people’s minds. When he wants
to understand or influence events better he becomes the black smoke. So why is
this island so important? Well this is where Jacob makes his home. That is why
it is important. it is tied to him. Jacob may in fact have become one with the
island, a distinct possibility.
So how do our Losties gain this power. Well if you have noticed, whenever
they have been clear of negative feelings, extraordinary things happen.
Hurley gets the car working, Jack saves someones life… again, etc…
This is why Jack’s story to Kate is so important. it describes how even
before the island he has learned to clear himself of his fault, fear. He
clears it from his body and then he goes to work. This is why he was unable
to save Gabriella’s father, the flashback where he breaks up with Sarah. He had
been so worried about his relationship and other things that his ability broke
down and he failed. Jacob has been testing all of the islanders trying to see
who is ready for that next step and who is not. Who will be next? Maybe me…
Maybe you… Probably Locke.

Thank you for explaining your feelings. Your ambiguity is appreciated. But seriously why do you think my theory is foolish?

jalocke, that was fricking awesome. billy, why I oughta slap you with Montand’s Arm.
Comment by Dusk — March 25, 2007 @ 11:37 pm
Jalocke, billy was only saying that to get a rise out of you. Don’t mind him, he may have Tourette syndrome.
Regardless, though I won’t call your ideas negative names, I will say I am pulling for them to be completely wrong.
I’m of the camp that wants to see LOST return more to science fact, proven reality based ideas and concepts. Call it a lack of imagination, but I just get wrapped tighter in stories that could happen to me. Could I survive a plane crash in a tropical paradise? Unlikely, but perhaps. We know it happens every few years (at least the crash surviving). Could I, after surviving that crash, have my mind read by a man manifesting himself as smoke because he can shape shift and alter time-space? Getting harder to believe.
Don’t get me wrong, I see the scientific problems/lack of plausibility with what we have seen thus far, but I can foolishly hope for everything to get a nice, neat, scientific wrapping can’t I?
Comment by evangelical poet — March 26, 2007 @ 1:33 am
Hey evangelical I know what you mean. Even though Im a theory monkey like so many others I do occasionally wish for a more simplistic LOST. One where we get to see more clearly the motifs of man struggling versus himself and nature. I actually have been working on a theory with what I would think is the best way to scientifically exlain this stuff away. Some of it is stretching the meaning but Im trying to get as close as possible.
Its funny Ive written several theories and looking back over them I thought of three or four really cool shows IMO. I realized that Im just trying to write how i would end the show if the show were sci-fi, fantasy, super drama, etc… I think its time to try my hand at realism. This one ought to be a toughie.
Oh and thanks for the good words Dusk!
Comment by jalocke — March 26, 2007 @ 3:52 am
jalocke, your theory is awesome.
However, I think maybe Jacob and the others somehow sucked the psychic ability out of Walt. Or maybe since the “box”, “Jacob” can manifest himself into anything he wants there’s the possibility that the real Walt never left with Michael and that Michael is going to show up later being bound and gagged in a cellar or somethinig. I don’t see them sending him packing until he is older. I can see Desmond being kidnapped very soon also.
Also, another theory I have about something unrelated:
I believe the reason that Ben is not healing is because of the shots that he and other others (there is no more intelligent way to write that) were taking. They are not allowing to island to do its voodoo.
Comment by thefallguy1 — March 26, 2007 @ 8:57 am
Real original, good stuff jalocke. This is why LOST kicks major bootay. It grabs ahold of the ability to really think and pulls it out of you. I like most of your ideas. I’ve felt for awhile that some kind of psychic phenomena was going on. This explains it much better than the “haunted island” theory. The one thing I disagree with is that I believe the others are in fact DHARMA. The first possibility for Jacob in this scenario would be that he is linked with DHARMA. If Smokey were a manifestation of Jacob (plausible), then he would be doing exactly as you say for DHARMA. His relation to Cerberus would be apparent in protecting the initiative. The second possibility for Jacob is that he is not Smokey at all. Smokey would be a manifestation of the island. If this were true, DHARMA would innevitably try to control it. I’ve read an anagram for D.H.A.R.M.A. as having something to do with the “ancient island spirit rath.” This would mean Smokey’s relation to Cerberus is protecting the island. The third possibility is a combination of the first two. That is Jacob is “him” and also the island. This would mean he existed here before DHARMA, but since they’ve gotten there and purged the natives they’ve tried to please him. Obviously he’s pissed about the way DHARMA has gone about things and has not bestowed them with the kind of gifts we see in the 815ers. Just some thoughts on possibilities of your theories. Very stimulating jalocke…
Yo poet, I understand your concerns. However, something that LOST does better than any show ever did (which makes it its own genre) is present fantastical things that have neither been proven as possible or impossible. Most of these things are hypothesized to be possible with further evolution. For instance it is widely thought that our minds can do so much that complete enlightenment would result in us losing our physical shells and becoming pure energy. This would explain the phenomena in jalocke’s theory if it were true. Another example would be time travelin Dr. Deshatten. Theories on bending space and time have been hammered out for a couple of hundred years now. Obviously the scientific community believes it to be possible (please wickipedia the “Philadelphia experiment,” good stuff). My point is that no matter how far fetched it seems, these things remain possibilities.
On the Danielle Rousseau tip, great catch Mr. Muir. I can’t believe we haven’t put 2&2 together. I know there’s something more to Rousseau, but you can’t quite grasp it. If she is DHARMA, it would explain so much. Perhaps her and Ben have been together, Alex is THEIR daughter, and the whole capturing him in the jungle thing was a ruse (Ben’s smarter than that). In this scenario she is either working security for DHARMA, or (if Ben and the others are not DHARMA) she had a forbidden fling with Ben and he doesn’t include her in the purge (last of the DHARMA-ites). Either way Danielle would give Alex to Ben for a better life. It does seem strange that if they were both DHARMA that Alex would not know Danielle (unless the charade had to be real to Alex too). Hmmm, there’s so much more to this than meets the eye.
Thoughts???
Comment by cap10tripps — March 26, 2007 @ 12:30 pm
I really do believe that Ben and the others are DHARMA.
Comment by cap10tripps — March 26, 2007 @ 12:31 pm
The following was pulled from LOST-TV.com. it’s from Season 1 episode entitled “Solitary”
DANIELLE: The firing pin has been removed. Robert didn’t notice it was missing, either — when I shot him.
SAYID: But you loved him.
DANIELLE: He was sick.
SAYID: Sick?
DANIELLE: It took them, one after the other. I had no choice. They were already lost.
SAYID: You killed them.
DANIELLE: What would have happened if we were rescued? I couldn’t let that happen. I won’t.
Now why would she say that last line? “What would have happened if we were rescued?”?? What was their “sickness”? Something that could be transfered to another place? Were they super human? Think of Ethan when he fought Jack way back in Season 1. He LIFTED Jack by the throat and up, Undertaker style.
I think the Island has an ability to improve human growth due to it’s proximity to a Tree of Life or Fountain of Youth or whatever “the Box” is…however, that healing power inhibits reproduction. Hence Juliet…and it’s been rumored that Juliet may be involved with the reason Sun is pregnant..injection..Sun’s baby’s father will be Ben!! You heard it hear first!!
