Just Call me the Anti-Misfit
Okay, you guys just might call me "The Misfit" for this one, but I have a whacked out theory. Hear me out. Next week Nikki and Paulo get their long awaited flashback. What is going to happen is this. Wait… if I’m right, then this is a spoiler… so please proceed through the link to hear my crazy theory.
Still with me? Good! Okay, so here is what is going to happen. Nikki is going to get bit by a spider. The venom from this spider does not actually kill you, it just paralyzes you. So Nikki will stumble back to the beach and collapse. Everybody will assume she is dead, and they will bury her. The zombie Nikki scene so famous from the March promo? Nikki is buried ALIVE! Okay, you need to hear the rest. Paulo will be so distressed that he will kill himself before it is discovered that Nikkie is actually alive! It could happen! Romeo and Juliet to the max! What evidence do I have? Read on…

This is the spider that bites Nikki fine thigh! Look for Dr. Arzt to identify this species early in the episode (I’m guessing! Not spoiler info!)
This scene clearly shows a concerned group kneeling over a fallen Nikki. Or somebody else who looks great in cut offs. Maybe its Jessica Simpson, what do I know?
And here we see those very fine legs getting covered over with dirt.

Interesting theory. Why the black and white though? we have never seen this technique used before. Could it be that Nikki and Paolo died when the plane landed the first time, hence them not being there up until season 3. Season 2 finale, desmond turned the key, went back in time.
What if the black and white scenes are those of Nikki and Paolo dying in the crash the first time…. But desmond change something…. anything.. .that made them survive the second time..
I dont know, your theory has more facts behind it. There ’s the picture of the spider right there.

I’m with you up until the “Paulo killing himself” because it’s my theory that Paulo is the gay character we’ve been hearing about. I also believe we’re going to find out that Paulo and Nikki are involved in film making (perhaps documentaries) and I’ll explain that theory if it proves to be true.

There are also more black and white scenes in the promo so it may not be just a “zombie” scene. Sawyer says that “they” were working with the others. Could it be, and this is pretty far out there, that Nikki and Paulo weren’t on the plane? Just go with me for a second. They came to the site of the crash with Ethan. Once they figured out Ethan wasn’t on the plane they either stopped checking everyone, or Nikki and Paulo got the passenger list and edited it during the night since the others still had a submarine at that point this could be done pretty quickly. They could of had technology that they used to communicate info to the others…I don’t think they ever actually said it was Ethan that told them Jack was a surgeon. Anyway, they only came more to the forefront more since the implosion because now they do not have any communication with the others and now may have to resort to different plans than originally thought. I don’t know if this will make any sense once I get some sleep and come down from my Locke high of tonight but hopefully someone will think this makes sense. (by the way, love the site)

i don’t think the black and white will appear in the actual episode. i’m almost positive the promo for Man from Tallahasse had black and white moments too.
my theory is that desmond changed some things (keep in mind that just mentioning to his friend that he believes he is time traveling is, in effect, changing something since he didn’t have that conversation the first time). whatever he did during that time eventually caused bernard and rose to not get on the plane, and nikki and paulo got on instead. we havnt seen rose or bernard since the moment desmond turned the key (and went back in time) and we have only started seeing nikki and paulo since then. if he changed history like this, no one would even have any recollection of rose or bernard. this would warrant an entire episode showing what the time on the island looked like from nikki and paulo’s perspectives.
i think the writer’s might have thrown in a cute little hint too. the two moments that involved paulo the most have been when he came out of the pearl station bathroom and had a few lines, and then when he was on his way back from the bathroom on the beach and argued with sawyer. think about it. why was bernard in the tailsection of the plain in the first place? he left rose to go to the bathroom.

Hey Mel, no waiting to see if your theory is true. Put it out there for over analyzation like the rest of us. If/when it’s wrong put something else out there. I’ll come up with theories based on your theories. El Prez will come up with theories on my theories. I’ll come up with theories on Prez’s theories. Jimmy Zer0 will… (you get the idea)
I agree that the bathroom thing is a clue. Doc Jensen thinks he is Ethan (the others body snatched Paolo)). That’s the reason for most of his bathroom breaks (reporting to the others like Ethan). I believe something else. We know the man Goodwin kills was thought to be an other because of multiple bathroom breaks. We see Ethan hangin with the Nicki and Paolo. I think Ethan will kill Paolo paralleling the Goodwin situation. Possibly to further the belief within the camp that Paolo is an other. Unlike Goodwin, what if Ethan’s plan works? Maybe he will have not died. Is this the reason Des replaces Rose and Bernard? To keep Ethan alive? All speculation, but my theory is that Ethan kills Paolo…

Maybe its a clue as to why Goodwin killed that dude like it was no big deal if it’s so frowned upon by the others. Maybe that dude was gonna die a much more horrible death (or something else was happening). Maybe it’s the sickness…

I don’t know…. I think Paulo finds something under water and dies drying to investigate. I can’t explain Nikki… is she with him? The promo hints at Charlie dying, and the photo suggest Nikki… but I don’t think that’s what happens. Call it.. a hunch.
Cuse said that the characters would become iconic… somehow Artz seems to think that Doc Artz is Iconic… so it’s all in the eyes of the viewer.

Well now I have to say something, since the good Cap10 called me out…:)
I usually don’t like to speculate on upcoming episodes as much as I like theorizing about old ones but I’ll give it a shot…
I like Doc’s initial assessment but it doesn’t make them “iconic”..a spider bite and then a gunshot doesn’t do much for the story…It’s definitely not enough to make a character iconic..And I have to think back on the whole “once you’re dead on this island, you are DEAD” credo that the writers have screamed but if there’s a spider that paralyzes, giving the appearance of death, well that’s pretty cool and could come in handy when faking your own death…which may be the whole point..Perhaps Niki and Paulo are working in conjunction with the Others, namely Ethan. They have to give the appearance of death. Once night falls, they arise from their graves and head for Othersville…
The bathroom break was definitely a sign of something…We’ve now got 2 instances where Paulo has been in a bathroom setting(Saywer’s magazine and once in the Hatch)…There’s definitely something fishy going on…too early to tell on the “why” all this is happening…

I have always stated that Lost parallels Earth 2 (both Clancy Brown and Terry O’Quinn stared in it).
On Earth2 there is a small animal that shoots a poison that paralyzes and it appears the person is dead. They bury someone and he ends up alive a few days later,
after digging himself up.
While I would love for the whole Romeo and Juliette thing to happen, as long as Paulo stays dead and Nikki dies later.
Earth2=Kid can’t walk until he gets to the planet.
Lost=Locke can’t walk until he gets to the island.
Earth2=Mysterious Crash
Lost=Mysterious Crash
Earth2=Strange scruffy people
Lost=Other dress as scruffy people
Earth2=Planet is alive
Lost=Island is alive (according to Locke)

I don’t think that Paulo and Nikki are “Others”. I’ve read that the producers know from fan feedback that these two characters aren’t liked. They said that that would change after the Nikki & Paulo centric episode. Wouldn’t making them “others” make them even less liked?
I like your theory Dan. I just think it’s strange to do a back story on Rose & Bernard and then not even have them hanging around in the background at least once this season.

I highly doubt that the Nikki and Paulo story has anything to do with them being dead or originally not on the plane until Desmond turned the key. I may be wrong, but the signs seem to be pointing to the fact that Nikki and or Paulo give up a bit of information that blows Sawyer and Charlie’s cover on the whole kidnapping thing. They HAD to have seen something, because everyone else would’ve talked earlier. I also thought I had seen a picture somewhere of Nikki looking down on the same burlap headcover type thing that they used to try to kidnap Sun, which would imply they are going to spill some…evidence regarding who did it.
So, IF they are the ones who reveal this evidence about Sun’s kidnapping, then they HAD to be there the entire time…
…also, it would be awesome if Nikki is the gay character. Unlikely, yes, I mean just look at Paulo…but let a man dream…

Jon-I don’t know that the writers said that Niki and Paulo would become “liked”. I think what they were implying was that they were introduced in a way that would pay off for the haters in Episode 14.
They couldn’t make Ep 14 if people didn’t know who Niki and Paulo were. There’s no vested interest. But introducing them, much like they did Dr. Arzt in season 1 and then blowing him to bits, was a huge payoff to fans.
Here was a guy we hadn’t seen all year. He comes in talking about trade winds and that the raft should have left “yesterday”(kind of a know it all) and then is going on and on about the dangers of dynamite, when BOOM!!
Great payoff.
I would hope that the same scenario plays out for Niki and Paulo with just as good a payoff, where they would become iconic…Making them zombies that rise from the dead is a cool start…I just watched Dawn of the Dead again last night…That would be “LOST weird” if they played upon that…

It looks like a script that Hurley has found for an old TV show but it may have a deeper meaning about Sawyer and Charlies deceit against their fellow survivors…

Yo Chris, N&P have had brief appearances in like 4-5 episodes (very brief). I agree w/ The Prez that they will be Arzt like figures. The producers implied that they would be embraced by the LOST community. They never said they were going to be main characters. However, I do believe their story will be much more important in the grand scheme than that of Dr. Leslie Arzt. Arzt gets the mad props for awesome way to die though. I love it when a friend of mine has something stuck to them just so I can say, “Dude you got some Arzt on you.” Now that’s pop culture…

Chris-are you currently watching Season 3? I don’t know if you are local(American) and I know that some other countries air the show at a different schedule than what we do but Cap10’s referring to 4-5 episodes of season 3….
I truly hope there is something dealing with the time travelling aspect that Desmond brings to story…
Imagine the following:
It would be awesome if it were private lore that a plane crashed on a deserted island in 2004.
Des goes back in time, tells his buddy about the island and then ends up back on the island, just like the course correcting universe would do. First time through the loop, no Niki and no Paulo.
Second time through the loop, Niki and Paulo board the plane based on a “prophecy” from Des’ friend. There by putting themselves on to the island. The universe course corrects, says they have no business on the island and kills them.
I’m sure this theory has more holes than a box of Krispy Kremes but I know it’s right up Cap10’s alley…

Yo Prez, what up? For some reason I never considered the possibility of Des telling them to board. I’ve been thinking Des is manipulating things, but it never crossed my mind that he would flat out tell someone to board (with a plan). Great thought Mr. Prez. As far as the time aspect goes, I’ve noted on another board that the portrait on Ben’s wall of Juliet appears to be a wedding portrait. Wouldn’t the fact that she got there 3 years ago (they hadn’t met yet), married Ben, left Ben, and was linked romantically to someone else (dude Ana Lucia killed, forgot his name) seem like too much going on in so little time? I think this is another hint of time moving slower on the island. Thoughts Prez? Anyone???

I don’t know that Des specifically said to board. In my theory, I think he told his physicist buddy and that his buddy told someone once Des actually disappeared. I think his buddy told Penny, actually and she set into motion the creation of the outpost to look for the anomoly.
That’s my guess. I suppose that someone else could have found this out and set Paulo and Niki up to land on the island, thru Oceanic Flight 815.
Look at spoiler fix ::::::Episode 3.14 features a Mr Zuckerman, a 70ish, wealthy Australian TV producer. He has many ex-wifes, a current wife, and a hot young girlfriend from one of his current shows
Any chance that Niki is the hot young girlfriend?????

That also bleeds into my thought that DHARMA was/is using us (via ocean cable) to change the Valenzetti equation. My thought was that they are trying to influence evolution through our televisions using morphic resonance. Just a thought on one piece of the puzzle…

Realistic possibility about his buddy letting Desmond’s network in on what’s happening. Even so, it would still seem that Des is tryin to accomplish something through his ability. Let me ask you something Prez. Let’s assume Des is manipulating something for a moment. What would he be trying to manipulate? A victory for a certain side perhaps? Rescue???

And Niki and Paulo could be Adam and Eve, which would place some sort of time bending into the show, but only if they are put into the caves somehow….

I like that. Des workin for universe man (size of the entire universe man). So Des and Locke are esentially working towards the same goal (restoring the order of things). The difference being that Des wants to find a way off the island eventually (back to Penelope).
My best guess…
Jack and Claire=Adam and Eve
I believe the clue is in the name Christian Shephard (along with the fact Jack has the rocks).

Milton - the adam and eve bones were in the episode of fresh water being found…Season one.
On another note - if Nikki and Paulo are indeed Diamond Smugglers maybe there is a Back to the Future story going on here….someone is taking advantage of the winning/lost soccer game Desmond was talking about in the bar.

How about this for a theory:
The spider bites both Nikki and Paulo. Everyone thinks their dead. Sawyer drops his rifle, it goes off and plants a bullet in Paulo’s head.
No big deal, he was already dead, says Sawyer.
Nobody is happy with his cruelty and they make him dig the graves.
He buries Paulo and Nikki. Nikki wakes up and Evil Dead’s her way out of the grave. Except she wasn’t dead, just full body and mind paralyzed.
She wakes up gasping and sees Paulo dead from Sawyer’s bullet.

you asshats. again this episode is supposed to be a crash on flasback. hence why boone and others are back. look at the casting. the pictures of the girl in cutoffs being buried is shannon. the spider bite yeah may happen, but nikki won’t die in this one. rodrigo is supposed to die eventually according to his interviews. regardless the flashback will be crash on seeing where and who these people are island time. then plot, likely what happens to cooper, and yeah beach stuff with nikki and paulo. death unlikely this go round.

Sun didnt had that hairstyle when Shannon died… Sayid would have been there IT HIS GIRL! and he isnt on that picture…
the clothes the girl wearing are the same clothes as NIKKI’s promo pic… THAT is Nikki… when Shannon got shot she was wearing a pink blouse (the same when she found out Boone died FYI) and a black skirt… so THAT girl lying there is 100% NIKKI
Please let her live trough this season.. I wanna see more from her…

3rdflr, remember it’s my belief that there will be parallels/metaphors to religion but not literal interpretations of the bible. Jack and Claire obviously have a lot to do with the future of the island and in turn the future of mankind. Christian Shephard (it’s in the name) is their father. Perhaps their interpretation of Adam & Eve (remember, metaphors) are that of two people who contribute greatly to the future of our world but not that of two people who make the first babies.
In my version Jack and Claire will eventually find out they are brother and sister and have an immediate deep connection. As the series draws to a close they will recognize their importance in the grand scheme. After the mysteries are revealed and resolution is found they will either never have been on the island or will come to terms with their imminent demise, and rest in the caves breathing their last breaths. All speculation of course, but that’s what my brain’s processing right now…

Nikki and Paulo are undercover agents working to bring down Mittelos/Dharma etc…That is why we will start liking them after this episode. They are the real “good” guys. Also, be prepared to see a robot before the season ends….

I like the N/P replace R/B theory. I didn’t but it till the Promo pics that show the hatch implosion that throws the Quarantine door to the Beach in the original scene Bernard pushes Clair out of the way but there is no Bernard in the pic
