When Arzts Collide
The story can now be told. A lot of people have asked me since I started posting in the LOST community why I chose the name DocArzt. I’ve put out a few different explanations, but the honest, hard truth is something like this: the day after Doctor Leslie Arzt (a bitchin name, I must say) appeared on LOST I went into work, gathered around my usual group of LOST addicts, and to my surprise was immediately picked out by one of my co-workers. "Y’know, I could not stop thinking about you last night.". "Why?" I asked, dreading the worst. "That new character… Doctor Arts…" (I’m spelling it like she said it) "…he reminded me of you!"
I really didn’t know what to think at first. I mean, here was the only guy who really seemed to have his crap together on the island, influencing the crowd with his commanding knowledge of ocean weather patterns. Handsome. Intelligent. A leader. Yeah, that is definitely me. To this day I think I might have missed a joke here, but Arzt and I know the joke is on them (and maybe a fleck or two of Arzt himself.)
So as you can imagine, I’m absolutely flabbergasted at the opportunity that landed in my lap this morning. Tomorrow I, DocArzt, will be interviewing Daniel Roebuck, the prolific character actor who breaths life into my on screen alter ego Dr. Leslie Arzt. Can you feel the surreality? Dan has a diverse background as an actor, one look through his IMDB credits (substantial credits I might add) and you’ll be surprised, possibly, to find out that Daniel made his way into some of your favorite movies and TV shows.
As usual, I’m rolling out the opportunity to pose questions to Daniel. If you have a question post it in the comments. At 9:00est tonight I’ll throw them into a poll and the top three will get asked. Then tune in Wednesday for the first part of the interview.

I don’t really have a question for Mr. Roebuck about LOST but I’ve always wondered if Jay Leno has held a grudge of his portrayal of the late night host. Maybe you could squeeze that in as a non-question.
OR..you could ask him how it feels to know that he had one of the coolest deaths on primetime television!!! He was almost topped by Patchy last week but nothing beats getting blown up while holding a stick of dynamite( a move ripped off by the folks at Grey’s Anatomy one year later)….
That’s all….

Who did he draw inspiration from to play Dr. Arzt?
How long in advance does he know when they want him to play Dr. Arzt?

now, tell the truth, were you really going to post this tomorrow, but pushed it up a day to appease the whiners in the last thread?
Good luck, congrats!

I’ve got 3 questions.
First, what inspired you to become an actor?
Second, what do you like most about LOST?
Last, did you ever think after Arzt exploded you would be back on the show?
Comment by valentin_50 — March 19, 2007 @ 1:10 pm
1) Do you know anything about Science?
2) Has anyone ever said, “You’ve got some Arzt on you,” to you?
3) How many of the actors from Lost has he worked with prior to the show?
4) Do you think you’ll ever be in a flashback off the Island?
5) If Arzt isnt’ part of the cool crowd, who did he hang out with on the Island?

Any weird treatment by cast and crew for portraying a character that serves only one (but admittedly HUGE!) purpose and then gets killed off?
Comment by Richard Lennox — March 19, 2007 @ 1:37 pm
Hey Daniel,
Very happy you finally got your wish to get LOST again. How did that happen? Was it simply luck that Damon/Carlton decided to delve into the other Tailies and thus their flashback just happened to include you?
I think the audience is more looking forward to seeing your character than the actual flashback. How does it feel that your particular character lives on as one of the great side charaters in LOST?
What have you been doing since LOST?

I’ve always wondered what Leno thoght of his portrayal myself…
We know you’ll be an upcoming Nicki/Paolo centric episode this season. Will you be doing any more?

It seems I’ve forgotten the word “in.” I would like to take this opportunity to give our docarzt full consent to add this to my question. That is unless you would really like to know if Roebuck will be morphing into an entire LOST episode anytime soon. Just in case you use the old copy and paste method…

I have no real questions, per se.
But If you title the interview “Arzt to Arzt”, we’re gonna fight.

LOL… “Arzt to Arzt,” I love it. Run with it Doc. Or how ’bout “2 of Arzt.”

When are you going to get blown up by dynamite, DocArzt? j/k
Hopefully you can get something about Lost out of him, but what? How about asking him how it felt to be one of those characters that never get screen time except for an episode or two? Or how it feels to be a Red Shirt on Lost? “What’s my motivation? Who am I?” “We need you so you can blow up.”
Comment by Jello — March 19, 2007 @ 8:51 pm
1) Hi Daniel!
If I remember correctly you will be in episode 14, a Nikki and Paolo flashback. Now I was wondering if you’ll blow up again in that episode!? Everyone knows that was one of the coolest deaths in LOST!
2) Hi Daniel!
I was wondering if you’ll be appearing on LOST anytime soon besides episode 14.

Does anybody realised that “Arzt” is the German meaning for “Doctor”?
So you can call him “Doc Doc”.
And one other funny thing is “Locke’s” name. It stands for curly Hair in German. But he is bold on his Head…

What character from your body of work would you pick out as the most similar to Dr. Artz?

will anything be revealed about Doc arzt in upcoming episodes that may shock the public?

As far as background Losties coming forward, both the Leslie Arzt character and the Rose character were immediately embraced by the LOST community, yet Nicki and Paulo have been universly hated from day one. Can you explain why?

How does it feel to have had one of the most memorable deaths in television history?
Comment by cap10tripps — March 20, 2007 @ 10:17 am
Here’s a question:
If he was “The only guy who really seemed to have his crap together on the island” how was it that he could blow himself up so quickly? (And mercifully IMO).
My first impression of Dr. A was that “A” should’ve stood for “A-hole.”
Comment by dan — March 20, 2007 @ 3:32 pm
Hey Dan.. don’t talk about me that way.
Comment by docarzt — March 20, 2007 @ 4:32 pm
I’d like to know if he saved a piece of himself.
Comment by Lance — March 20, 2007 @ 9:01 pm
Did you manage to steal any cool props? Maybe to sell on Ebay!?! I’d have tried for a stick of dynamite.
Comment by Chris — March 21, 2007 @ 1:02 pm
Not you, doc! The other doc, doc! It’s clear that you have value and probably would not blow yourself to pieces…
