Doc Returns From His Summit with Answers from above
As a LOST blogger for over two years, what can I say about having the opportunity to speak with LOST Co-Creator Damon Lindelof and Executive Producer Carlton Cuse? It was like getting an audience with god! My mind has been blank ever since the interview was scheduled, my nerves were humming like the Swan station’s concrete filled hallway. Thanks to your input, and a lot of Xanax, I made it through the interview with some details fans are going to love. What’s up with the video game? When will season four premiere? Will Marvin Candle get a flashback? And what the hell is up with that cable? Are the events and characters of The Lost Experience part of the Lost canon? I’m glad we *finally* got an answer on TLE stuff and how much it integrates into the show. Hopefully Doc’s hard work will result in a sharp decline in all the “Mittlewerk this, Mittlewerk that” we keep seeing in fan theories.

Stu, in this case… the interview was arranged with ABC for BuddyTV which has a much larger circulation than little old TTS. I will tell you about a little trick a friend showed me though that can get you into buddytv from work… go to http://www.fangasm.com/cgi-bin/nph-proxy.cgi and enter the buddytv url and you’ll be able to see it! Thanks to vex and the gang for that one…

I had to rain on the parade but this interview sucked and the questions were nerf balls. I mean come on, who cares about the stupid video game or if some clown is gonna direct an episode.
In the future you might want to stick to questions related to what viewers want to know that they may actually answer like what was the pilot clue in season one that we still don’t know about 2 years later. I want the 5 minutes of my life back that I used up reading this crap

Although I appreciate the effort you put into this site (especially the spoilers), I must question your mental state when you compare speaking to a couple of television writers to an “audience with [G]od.” At a certain point, fandom can become unhealthy obsession, and, unfortunately, I think any reasonable person would say that you have crossed that line.

I should let Doc handle the “audience with God” comment but IMO, Doc was speaking about the LOST universe. In that sense, Damon and Carlton are God.
I think if DocArzt had an audience with the actual God, he would probably ask bigger questions than what the cable was all about.
Speaking of said cable, by destroying the “hub” or Flame station, that cable will play a bigger role in the future if submarines are no longer able to detect where the island is. If the Flame was a lighthouse, and a light house was destroyed, guess what happens? Boats and other water craft that rely on arriving at night would crash on the shores. Don’t be a dumbass…think about what you type prior to ripping someone a new one….

GO, DOC! This is another example of how close the producers are to the fans! I really enjoyed the questions and the answers, and was surprised to read that there’s more to the cable then just a simple sonar for the Galaga… I’m glad that the videogame question was addressed as well, since it was my suggestion… lol
Lost is finally bringing back a glow in my eyes. I like where the story is going (about freaking time!) =)

Well, first of all it’s very cool that Damon and Carlton actually agreed to answer your/our questions.
The fact that you had this opportunity at all, ranks you up there with Kristin and Ausiello in my book, when it comes to Lost scoop.
Sadly, you pretty much wasted your chance.
The majority of the interview consisted either of things that most fans(or at least I) already knew like the date of season 4, TLE, the movie, game, Arronofsky or meaningless stuff like the HD DVD question for example. Only the part about the map in episode 3.10 was actually interesting. What I wrote may be harsh but it’s also true. I’m especially upset because of the way you advertised it when you wrote something like that your interview is going to be different, better than the ones before it, and you wrote we could send in our questions giving us the illusion that you will actually ask the questions that were posted in the comments. You overhyped the whole thing beyond belief just like ABC does in their promos for the show. But don’t get me wrong, I think your site is one of the best among Lost sites, and you’re doing a great job with it, I’m just saying that your interview was a failed attempt at giving us something great. Although it didn’t work, I still thank you for trying.

I just have to disagree with you completely Sam. I think in some regards some of the questions were bland, but ones I didn’t care about, like the video game for instance, other people are ecstatic over. At any rate, it wasn’t the usual ‘what do you think of the ratings’, etc. I’m excited as heck to know the subtle things like seeing Doc Candle outside of an orientation film. You do realize what that means, right? That we are going to see flashbacks that take place during the time of Dharma. Regardless, like any interview its take it or leave it. I’ll take it. I don’t think it is in good taste to rail on Doc for it though, it was hardly a wasted opportunity.

That will be changing very soon E. Because of my responsibilities there, I have to focus most of my writing on that site. So I have just been over-run. I’m going to be ramping up Tailsection content again this week with the help of a couple of contributors I am VERY excited about.

For the malcontents, I would like to see what you’d do if you got a chance to talk to those guys. Doc asked some good questions and we got some stuff you can’t find anywhere else. You don’t get an opportunity to interview these guys and try to get them to reveal everything. Any moron could realize it won’t happen. So what do you do? You ask careful questions that give them an opportunity to say what they want to say and hopefully get some exclusive tidbits in the process. That’s just what Doc did. NICE JOB, DOC!

Get a grip people. Do you really think the writers would respond to questions like “What is the Smoke Monster?” and “What is the story of the Others?” if they weren’t good and ready? Do you really expect Doc to say “Please explain these plot holes?” to writers gracious enough to take time out of an extremely busy day to meet with him?
Doc, I think you asked good, relevant questions that were appropriate and not too probing to the point where the writers would tell you they wouldn’t answer (or maybe you did and those just didn’t get published).
In any event, good show.

NO, I do not think they are going to tell me what the smoke monster is.
In any event, he asked us for questions and comments, I read people’s questions throughout the day, and the only thing he asked about was the ridiculous twin theory that HE made up and made no sense. He couldn’t even remember where he “heard” it may be relevant in the future. He is trying to write too much like the dude from EW.com - what’s your theory now doc that your twins one blew up like the flame hatch did last nite?

Sheesh Tina, I guess I missed the part where you explained why you even come here? It’s obviously not to ‘read’ since you didn’t seem to understand the numerous times I said my “story” is not a theory. As for writing like Jeff Jensen, you obviously do not read Jeff Jensen either. My only attempt at anything resembling a theory is my “Story” which I’m telling in a serialized semi-narrative form. Jensen is more of a “How many ideas can I come up with from this” combined with some extremely good research and awesome eye for detail. Sorry you didn’t like it Tina, but this isn’t a public restroom. If your coming here to do nothing but sh*t, there’s the exit. Don’t catch your heel on the way out.

Y’know Tina, I was very very very interested in the videogame. I would have liked to know what engine they were doing it on. But the point is, I guess I’m stupid because I liked what Doc got? You say it was all movies and video games but there was cool stuff about the cable, the lost experience being canon (or non), I thought much of it was pretty revealing. Part of my thinks you’re just jealous there Tina. I know I am, but I’m not going to take poorly supported swipes at Doc to express it. Maybe a punch in the arm

I stick by what I said.
Of all the questions asked here maybe 2 of them were worth a damn. The rest most people could care less about. If you are given the opportunity to ask you should ask what you really want to know not some foo-foo bullshit because you are scared they won’t answer. Like the saying goes you never know if you don’t try. I read the entry about what people wanted to know about and this piece pretty much ignored all the important things people wanted a little more info on. Nobody cares about the stupid video game or who is directing what. They want answers to the mysteries. And if Damon and Carlton have shown us nothing else it’s that they will give you little pieces when asked something directly. They won’t flat say no unless you ask something ignorant like how the show ends. Even if it’s just a small tidbit, that’s better then nothing.
This interview is a wasted opportunity in my opinion. And I’m not flaming I am simply saying that there is a ton more stuff out there that wasn’t even touched on. If given the chance again I seriously hope the questions are more meat and less fluff

Well Ice, I think the one thing that is clear from looking at everybody’s opinions is that everyone has a different idea of what they wanted to get out of it. The fact is, Carlton and Damon aren’t going to answer any mysteries or even offer hints, it would ruin the exposition on air. But the point is, you say “nobody cares about the stupid video game”, some people did! Heck I did, I was very interested in it. It all comes down to a matter of personal taste. Calling it a wasted opportunity is ridiculous, because people who were interested in the items that were discussed got information that was satisfying to them. Take it or leave, I guess, but don’t try to pigeon hole it as a ‘failed’ opportunity just because the questions you would have like answered weren’t in there. There is plenty of time for us to learn the answers to the mysteries of the show, exactly as long as the show remains on the air. That is how I want the important items revealed, on the show… not in some interview.

I was going to post this before, but gave up… Now, looking at the progression of the thread and a fresh new related thread started by Doc, i’ll post it this time:
To all of you who are complaining about the interview:
Doc is a smart guy and he knew exactly what he was doing. He wouldn’t was everybody’s time with trivial questions like: “What’s the smoke monster”, or “When is Walt coming back”. All we would have gotten were answers like “can’t tell you that yet”, “can’t tell you that yet”, “can’t tell you that yet”…
When you get the oportunity to interview one of the most influent people in the entertainment industry, you have to broaden your view and discuss the medium, not ponctual plot lines that are strategical for the show to remain a mistery. You ask about the things that revolve around the context of the show, like its mithology and its cross-media potentials, stuff that they can’t tell through the characters.
The TailSection has very well written articles and very insightfull theories and stories, that’s why its one of the most influent non-official Lost sites there is and will ever be. It is run by very smart and well read people. And it makes the fans feel very smart and also well read.
I’m not a suck-up. This is my opinion as a fan who learned to respect the people responsible to make this place happen, both contributors and fans, and aknowledges its importance. Respect isn’t bought, it is earned… and the guys at TTS have earned mine a long time ago.

Great work. Frankly, I’m not sure what can be expected of an interview to provide “answers.” That’s what the show is for. These sorts of interviews are fun, and Cuse and Lindeloff were kind enough to settle a few things (The Twins, what’s Canon in the Lost Experience.)
Fantastic work procuring the interview, and don’t let a few naysayers affect your pride in the questions you asked. There will always be fans who treat shows, interviews and websites as their property and hold them to impossible standards. Don’t even sweat that type of response.

First let me sat that getting this interview was a major feather in the Doc cap. However I can’t help but say that after reading it, I was left feeling a little disappointed. I was so eager to post questions and read what everyone else would like to have asked. I felt that a majority of the submitted questions were sensible and fair questions that really should have been considered. It seems like you asked questions that were more to your own personal liking, which is cool, but you did ask for our input.
I’m not naive as to think that you would ask “what is the smoke monster?”. But a simple question like “what is the cable Sayid found on the beach?”, is a similiar question and you were able to ask that. As you seen they didn’t say one word about what the cable was. They just referred to when you would find out about it. I believe sometimes that if they have an answer to a question, like they have actually addressed it in an episode, then they are willing to answer those questions. But if they have not addressed it or they just don’t have an answer for it, then they will give evasive answers or avoid it altogether. They could answer “the cable” question because they have actually addressed it in an episode. But if they have not figured out how to tie Libby into the mental hospital then they will probably not answer questions about that.
