Doc Jensen Needs Your Input!
Doc Jensen from Entertainment Weekly is working on an all new anagram theory and wants your input!
THIS IS GOING TO COOK YOUR NOODLE. We know that Lost is fond of anagrams and Easter egg clues. Well, check this out. We’ve been told that DHARMA is an acronym for “Department of Heuristics And Research on Material Applications.” I haven’t worked all of this out yet, but I’m thinking that full title is an anagram for something—a sentence that might reveal a big secret of Lost. A sentence that includes the words “DESMOND HUME” and “PENELOPE.” (Work it out—the names are totally in there. But what’s the rest of the sentence? There’s only one ‘D’ in that entire sentence. I’m not sure how you could even spell Desmond.

The official DHARMA acronym uses the AND. So you got the D in Department and D in And. (This was confirmed by the Powers That Be.) My bad for not capitalizing the “And” in my write-up. I’ll correct that.

Almost every sufficiently long sentence looks like an anagram at first. There is most likely nothing hidden in this.

What are you talking about? There are 6 ‘E’ in the phrase and you only need 5.

He’s talking about an anagram, not an acronym. He’s saying each letter in DHARMA stands for a word. Not that if you jumble DHARMA, you’re going to spell Desmond. I always just assumed DHARMA stood for:
Dumb Hicks And Really Mean A-holes.
Just my personal opinion.

i don’t know what this thing could be, and frankly I have no clue…but I’m fairly certain after last week’s episode that the time loop theory discussed here previously is accurate, and that Penny’s discovery of the island–perhaps as the result of something Desmond says or does through his recognizing his future–will break the loop.
Assuming this is accurate, then that means Desmond is a main part of the mythology, which means someone else’s story was taken away and given to Desmond…especically considering TPTB weren’t even sure if they could sign HIC for season three…
so thoughts on the importance of Desmont and Penelope certainly seem significant, but I don’t know about this anagram thing.

I jumbled it around a bit and got:
Can liar Desmond Hume Race Rafts to attain a rich Penelope’s spirit?
(this includes the of and on in the acronym)
Not to say that this means anything, (especially considering Des hasn’t done anything to be called a liar, save not being upfront about his ’super powers’) but it suggests the possibility of an important anagram somewhere in the phrase.

I’ve not managed to ’solve’ the supposed anagram (at least, not as yet, but I love a challenge!); however, here is a list of lost-related words I have found

Some of these can be found in a single reading of the phrase, but most of them are simply drawn out of it (i.e. without regard for which letters would be ‘left over’ once other words have been found). I’ll keep going, but good luck to everyone else who finds (or makes) the time to try.

There are almost always multiple relevant anagrams in any given long phrase or name. I just found one that sums up Desmond’s story so far, or at least what he’s thinking:
Rainstorm! Fear I can’t escape the uncharted island pair’s time loop.

I love solving all these anagrams and stuff but I doubt if there is anything hidden in DHARMA, would be pleasantly surprised if it does turns out to be something.

I like that Hexonxonx. It could actually open up possibilities of Smokey as the central mystery pertaining to Dharma and the island. Maybe it’s more than a mysterious force but something the initiative is studying (or something they’ve unleashed). Whatever it may be, Smokey is still my favorite question mark.

Has anyone thought about what the appearance of the jewelry store lady in “flashes” means?
Fate is the driving force on Lost. They are all where they need to be. Desmond would have never turned the failsafe key and saved the world if the Losties had not crashed.
Would something not have to send desmond’s consciuosness back from sometime after the events on the beach in ‘Flashes’ for him to know what is happening. The writers make it seem that he is only remembering things that he has already experienced.
Does that make any sense?

Could someone check Lost in Portland to see if Smokey appears in front of the bus that hits Juliet’s ex? Someone mentioned this in an earlier post. If this is the case then Smokey also has something to do with getting these people on the island (sort of creating fate).
