LOST to Jump The Shark This Week?
Well, according to me, YES! Okay, so I don’t really believe in Shark Jumping. I think the whole concept of perching yourself over a mega-popular show waiting for it to slip up so badly it can never recover should be reserved for writers and producers whose pilots sucked so bad they never saw airtime. None-the-less, since Damon and Carlton have promised us an event of that magnitude, I had to first make this graphic of LOST actually jumping a shark:
(I know, water skis and a leather jacket would have been a nice touch) and furthermore enter my prediction on when the shark jumping would take place. So click the link below to find out, and beware spoilers hiding amongst the waves….

It’s possible that we’ll find out that the scene with the Brazilians in the arctic took place in the past and not the present, but I don’t think that will be the big crazy thing this episode. My best guess is that at the end of the episode, in the last flashback scene, the camera will pull backwards and show that the flashback was being shown either inside of Smoky or on a TV screen (with the Others?).
It’s definitely something you only have to show once and thus would never do again, and it certainly has the potential to be really rad or turn viewers off for good.

Thats heavy stuff, man. Quite a teaser. So much for underpromising and overdelivering.

He says “How it is played out is a mystery, but we know that Desmond of the past has knowledge of the future, and may even have knowledge of Island Desmond. That would be creepy indeed.”
I wonder if by “past Desomnd” he means “present Desmond”… how would we “know” that pre-island Desmond was already seeing the future back then. This is definitely not a given.

What a shame, jump the shark is the stupidest thing anyone has ever come up with. Diehard fans will keep watching lost, the rest of you maybe should watch Barney the dinosaur.

I reckon the whole scene with the guys in the artic and penny getting the phone call at the end of season two are all in the past and was the first flashback of the past that Desmond saw as soon as he turned the failsafe key. Suggesting Penny has already attempted to reach the island and failed!. We just saw the flashback thru his eyes to suggest to us as viewers tht it was present time and happening!.
I have to point out though i HOPE IM WRONG BECAUSE IF THIS IS THE CASE THEN I WONT STOP WATCHING BUT ILL BE MIGHTLY PISSED OFF COS THIS WILL BE THE BIGGEST STRING ALONG OF ALL TIME AND BE AN ABSOLOUTE TEASE!. ITLL MEAN NO-ONES COMING! :C

“When you die, your life flashes before your eyes.”
We all know this statement or quote. What if you have a near death experience? You get to that point where death is imminent and your life begins to flash before your eyes. What if, in that moment, you see your ENTIRE life, realize that you still have a lot of living ahead of you and are pulled back to the land of the living??? It would be like showing a movie and half way through, fast forwarding through a myriad of events and then the end, then stopping the movie and resuming from where the fast forward started…….
I think this is the game changer, jumping the shark, love it or leave it moment the producers are talking about….The notion that you could have your entire life flash before your eyes even though part of it hasn’t occured is just ludicrous enough to be a sane thought…..I just blew my own mind…

Doc, You believe that Lost will JTS this week?
Comment by Brinson — February 14, 2007 @ 5:52 am
If past Desmond has knowledge of future Desmond, then perhaps future Desmond is actually past Desmond. This would lead you to believe that this island is stuck somewhere before the 90’s. It operates on different time as has been mentioned in other blogs. It also looks as if we’ll start seeing Mr. Patchy more prominently. You can see him in the promo for this week walking by a little house. I’m sure everything ties in (we’re sure to see Penny this week and Libby this week and next), but I’m still interested to hear peoples’ opinions on what Smokey is…

Oh no, no, no Brinson. I do not believe in jumping the shark at all. I believe the moment that Damon and Carlton said might have people loosely throwing that dread term around is in this weeks episode. I don’t believe shows truly jump the shark. If the universe were truly that unforgiving, none of us would be here…

There is a theory I’m currently subscribing to. That is that Aaron Degroot is somehow behind things. Testing on him may have caused the first “incident” and in turn his incredible psychic ability to become pure energy (a theory widely recognized as a human ability if we could use our brain to its full capacity) effectively killing his parents (Adam & Eve) and his physical body. Old Smokey is a manifestation of Aaron and that mysterious energy walled up in the hatch is Aaron himself. It’s why Claire’s baby (who’s name is no coincidence) is so highly sought by the others, as Aaron needs a physical body again (either for safety reasons or to give birth to a new messiah). Claire’s Aaron probably makes Juliet less useful, as growing a new Aaron Degroot may have been her primary function. Aaron Degroot may be the “great man” Ben adores and fears. He may be godlike which would be why Locke (with great faith in the island) can now walk and why he almost lost the ability when he started losing faith. I’ve considered a possible anagram for Degroot as “true god” What I’m trying to come up with at the moment (I can’t seem to wait 10 hrs.) is how space/time, Desmond’s ability, Penny, and the arctic Brazilians play into things. What do you guys think? On a side note, Penny and the Arctic Brazilians is my next band…

I didn’t think so but I wanted to make sure I had it clear. Thanks and give Doc Jensen a shout for me.

24lukes theory that the scene with penny being a flashback sounds like the sort of trick that the producers may well do. Nice idea luke
Comment by Rob — February 14, 2007 @ 10:05 am
How could it be a flashback when Desmond wasn’t there? Maybe they’ll show him coming out of the shower after Penny gets the call or something like that.
Comment by cap10tripps — February 14, 2007 @ 10:47 am
Didnt the portugese people say 2 penny that they have found “him” Im not 100% sure of this, they may have said we have found “it”.
Comment by josh — February 14, 2007 @ 12:37 pm
They said “it”, not “him”……proof positive that she was looking for the island, not Des….
Comment by El Prez — February 14, 2007 @ 12:46 pm
Well, I think tonight’s episode either sank the show or redeemed it, depending on one’s preconceptions about several of the mysteries. I don’t generally have high hopes for a show running to a conclusion without disappointing its fan-base a little when the writers have repeatedly stated they have no conclusion written as yet.

Speaking of Sharks… On early lost, when the raft is destroyed and there’s a shark rounding about, if you pause the screen, you can see the DHARMA sign on the tail of the shark. Was the shark cloned? Or is it just a branding…?
Watch it and see what you think…

Now that the episode in question has passed…
Lost has NOT jumped the shark…
It is instead the SHARK that has jumped Lost…
Figure it out, peeps.

This is all garbage, bleah jump the shark bleah. You people analyse too much, critique too much take everything TOO seriously and you don’t just watch the show and REMEMBER everything that has happened to now.
Penny and Desmond did meet (after the supposed flashback of Desmond in Flashes) and before Desmond went on the boat to the island in a flashback in Season 2 at the baseball stadium. Remember? Desmond is looking for things in his trunk and Penny comes by, she heard Desmond was in town. She wanted to see him, she still loves him and he still loves her, this was admited in that episode. So why shouldn’t she be looking for Desmond? She still loves him, and he said to wait for him.
Doesn’t it piss you off, when people are discussing the latest show and forget things in the past that effect the current show?

Easy one, just look at the ratings. Shark jumped over Lost in the weekly ratings.
Isn’t it ironic, don’t ya think?
