LOST - Not In Portland - TEN MOMENTS TO WATCH FOR!

Lost Spoilers — February 7, 2007 at 10:33 am by Brinson

The first LOST in 16 weeks has to be good, right?  It has to be spectacular, right?  Has to answer questions, tantalize with new mysteries, and make up for all the beach folk neglect of the LOST mini-season, right?  For those of us who weren’t as put-off by the first six episodes of LOST season three (I count myself amongst the content), the answer is no.  But if you are one of those who was left a little malcontent by LOST’s experimental mini-season, or ‘pod’ as Carlton Cuse likes to call it, don’t worry… the answer for you is yes, and the response is ‘Not In Portland’.

I am amongst those unfortunate souls that got an early look at ‘Not In Portland’; I say unfortunate because now I have a whole ‘nother week before any new LOST episodes!  Normally I’d say it is worth it but ‘Not In Portland’ is just so cool it is going to have your LOST cortex screaming for more right as the credits roll.  The sixteen week hiatus was bad enough, but believe me – if you’d had the slightest inkling how cool LOST was going to get when it returned you would have fallen into a coma.  It is JUST that good.

Now the last thing I want to do after you have waited all this time for this episode is spoil it for you by giving you too much information.  I’m not going to do that.  Instead what I’m going to try to do here is get you in my aura, my after-glow if you will.  ‘Not In Portland’ is much more than just a good ‘return from hiatus’ episode, it stands amongst the best LOST episodes out there in its ability to maintain a high level of entertainment while injecting all sorts of neat-o possibilities into the mythology.

Ah… and there it is… the mythology.  For some of us – the fruitiest of all LOST fans – there is nothing more delightful than a random appearance of those pesky numbers, a peek at a new Dharma logo, or the slightest inkling of what these dastardly others might be up to on this tropical paradise, and Not in Portland is loaded with just those moments.  So without further ado, here are the cryptic clues of what you need to be looking out for in ‘Not in Portland’.  None, and I mean NONE, of these little clues gives away any major plot details no matter how much you think it might.

·        What is in a name?  Plenty!  If you’re going to get a new job, make sure you truly ‘understand’ your employer.

·        Was there a glyph on that bus?  I think somebody slipped me a psychotropic Mickey.

·        This guy has clockwork for brains.

·        How many other cells are there?

·        Tom’s least favorite song is ‘Purple Haze’.  Reminds him of his days in prison.

·        Wow… Mickey and Minnie might have a use for that!

·        Clockwork Orange by way of Timothy Leary… PAUSE! PAUSE!

·        Wow… more daddy issues?  I feel for Carlton and Damon.

·        Did he tell her to do that?

·        Here we go with time again… somebody grab my date-book.

That’s a solid minimum of ten cool LOST moments, and I think I may have missed a few!  Still think the LOST folks don’t love you?  I’m one of those shameless sycophants that thought that the mini-season was pretty damn good, so I’m afraid I can’t answer the question of whether or not ‘LOST is found’ – or whatever variations those clever copywriters have put together – but I can tell you that LOST has again struck that balance of story, character, adventure, and kismet that makes it such a joy to watch.  So for me LOST is ‘back’ because it’s February and that’s when it is supposed to be back;  for the rest of you who ‘lost’ a little faith, LOST is definitely back in top form… and it is demanding your undivided attention.
