Season 4 Lineup and The Possible End of the Series!
There is no real need to go too much into this because most of you have already heard the news about this because a mass of articles have popped up from USA Today (Pop Candy, & the Front Page) ABC News, Coming Soon.net, Entertainment Weekly, etc. Sooo, odds are you already know the news and I don’t want to sound to redundent, but for those who haven’t heard the word…
The word is The producers of Lost are in discussions with ABC to decide on a deadline for the series. Lindelof & Cuse have always stated their desire for a set end to the show, and how they don’t want to cheat the viewers. They often compare their desire to have a satisfying end to the way X-Files ended and how the X-File fans felt cheated or no longer cared about it. They want to start wrapping up questions by knowing how much time they have left to answer things and give out information. They also discussed whether they would be around if ABC was to continue the show after the producers felt it should end. Well, they wouldn’t be sticing around. They say they will have an answer to when Lost will end and it seems that we shall know very soon. Some sites have said that Lost will end at Season 7 and some say Season 5 might the end, but no one knows for sure.
Another thing that was revealed was that Season 4 will start in January and will run all the episodes (with no reruns) just like 24. The Chicago Tribune had the best Article with some Spoiler info at the bottom of the page.
http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2007/01/lost_producers_.html
Enjoy.

omg! on the chicago tribune website minor spoilers, it said: “There will be a big reminder this season that on the island, it’s still November of 2004 and only three months have passed, which will help lead to “a major shakeup coming soon.” do you guys realize that the major tsunami and earthquake happened in DECEMBER 2004!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! could this be the major shake up????!!!
Comment by Kenny Day — January 15, 2007 @ 11:48 am
they said they MAY use the non-stop season formula. That they were looking at it as an option for next year. all the news outlets are treating it like it was a press release. all it was was some talk at a press junket. then, variety blew it out of proportion saying what you’re saying. i won’t believe a thing until i see an official press release!
all things said, i think it would be a good thing if the show did end in season 5 and do the remaining two seasons without interruption. i’ve said this all along. have i ever considered dropping the show because it have breaks? no. would the show be better if it didn’t have breaks? absolutely!
in the end, they would probably gain more viewership. the reason 24 is so successful is not because it’s a good show with great acting (because it’s not). it’s because it’s there every week for viewers. it’s a constant in their lives. they know it’s there and it won’t betray them. lost needs to be there for it’s viewers too. it sounds sad, but it’s very true
Comment by TK — January 15, 2007 @ 12:00 pm
I’d love it if the show ended after 5 seasons. I also can’t wait for all the howling if they go to a 24 type season; people are having major withdrawals after 9 *weeks* of the mini-season hiatus, after 7-8 months, people will be OD’ing left and right.
Comment by Henry Holland — January 15, 2007 @ 12:25 pm
Hey TK dont slate 24 its a great show true it may have passed its best now seasons 1-3 were when it was greateset but apart from Lost and Heroes its still one of the best dramas out there, and when it originally aired it was groundbreaking and genre defining. Im sure J.J and Lindelof are great fans!.
Comment by Luke — January 15, 2007 @ 12:43 pm
Calander section of the L.A. Times made it sound like the series would end around season five.
Comment by samsneed — January 15, 2007 @ 12:50 pm
have you watched heroes? it’s the most predictable show on television. not to mention how bad the acting is. that indian dude can’t act his way out of a box. and was anyone actually satisfied with how the ’save the cheerleader’ storyline ended?the only reason i watch it is because it’s about comics and i feel i have to support anything that brings comics to mass media.
24 WAS a good show, but unfortunately has faltered in recent years and now resorts to the shock value of killing major characters for suspense. unfortunately, i fear lost is headed the same direction after the season of death that was season 2 and how season 3 is shaping up to be.
it’s the end of an era
Comment by TK — January 15, 2007 @ 1:49 pm
I am very pleased to hear that Season 5 will be the end. Hopefully. I can’t wait to learn about the other faction of the OTHERS! The Patchy lead Others? I think that would be interesting to witness. I can’t wait to get back into some Locke-centric episodes. I think he is the most pivotal character. He has been from the start. Desmond is getting on my nerves. He needs to redeem himself in upcoming episodes in my eyes. I hear alot about Hereos and 24 (both great shows) but I push others to view Prison Break. It is really intriguing and action packed. Also, if you are big comedy fans, please check out “Always Sunny in Philadelphia”

Five seasons? Isn’t the implication that season four would be the end - since they want to do 90-100 episodes all up?
Comment by Dusk — January 15, 2007 @ 2:21 pm
I agree with TK. Luke when you say Lindelof and JJ are fans, is that you’re assumption or do you have a reference for that? If it’s just an assumption, thats a pretty dumb ass thing to say.
Lost will go 5 seasons. It will be great. There won’t be a spin-off, but the next Abrams project will include actors from Lost and it will be great as well. Alias, Lost, …
Comment by JoefromUtah — January 15, 2007 @ 2:53 pm
in order to get 100 episodes, there would need to be 5 seasons. if you do the math, they should have 93 hours by season four’s end. maybe a mini season 5? nah. they’s do the full order.
Comment by TK — January 15, 2007 @ 5:08 pm
5 seasons is ok. Just like Alias…
Comment by No1 — January 16, 2007 @ 3:57 am
Maybe they ar gonna have 108 hours of episodes !

Since when is this news? Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have been saying this since the first season… they’ve always wanted to end it eventually, and have always mentioned a 5-6 year run. This sounds like the first time however they’ve actually tried to step up and make it official.
Comment by dhinge — January 16, 2007 @ 5:45 am
Since the beginning of the show Lindlehoff and Cuse have always said that they want 5 years, we all know that ABC wants more than that. Frankly they want as much lost as they can get for as long as the show’s ratings are good. And we also all know that ABC would replace Damon and Carlton, if they thought they could keep the show on for a few more years.
That’s just the nature of the American T.V. system… to wring dry every property it has regardless of the fans, the creators or the story being told.
Now that being said, this news is exciting to me. It shows that TPTB are staging an effort to combat company control and give us fans a ray of hope that this Marvelous Show can go out with the Bang it deserves… and not the Sputter! Clank! Fart! of normal network fair. Take it back boys! Remind the network who created the show in the first place.
Comment by Watchmen — January 16, 2007 @ 9:48 am
Yeah, American TV system is double-edged weapon. We don’t have In Russia, unfortunately, series even half as good as Lost. Actually, our series do not aires once a week, but five times a week. Hence, it’s quality is very poor. Several times in year somebody shoots a good mini-series, that’s all.
But ending in the way X-files or Sliders isn’t the best way, so this news are great. Four of five seasons would be enough
Comment by Lucife — January 16, 2007 @ 11:41 am
Well at least it’s not in England. The BBC are cheap bastards because they only do six or sometimes twelve episodes per season for the best shows they have (extras, the office, Dr. Who.) Imagine if that six episode miniseries was the whole of season three. That would suck.
Lucife: America has shows that air five times a week. They are called soap operas.
Comment by Charlie Lesoine — January 16, 2007 @ 12:32 pm
they never said they want 5 seasons, they said they have a roadmap for 5 seasons of material. big difference. they could stretch out the material if the suits wanted them to.
Comment by TK — January 16, 2007 @ 2:31 pm
I think most people I know are going to get extremely tired of the show if there are more than 5 seasons. This is a show that cannot run forever, or it will die the same death that the X-Files did. Slow, painful, and completely unsatisfying with a hodgepodge ending because it gets canceled mid-season due to poor ratings.
Then again, ABC may take it past 5 seasons, but I don’t think I’m going to watch after that. Then again, if the rest of Season 3 doesn’t deliver some of the goods, I don’t know if I’ll even be watching season 4. I’m tired of appetizers. I want substance!
Comment by GodBlessTexas — January 16, 2007 @ 8:45 pm
I love Lost, and I hope that the show will continue to shine. If they take it pass five seasons I will continue watching it because it is just the best show in the world. I LOVE LOST!!!!
Comment by charly — January 17, 2007 @ 12:30 pm
LOST defied many traditions - why can’t it then defy staleness after 5 seasons? This is the show that broke all the rules, and it can break several more - but the creators seem to be giving into criticism. A true shame, and “caveat emptor” for those viewers wishing they had more power to influence TV.
Comment by Dusk — January 17, 2007 @ 3:34 pm
OK I love how the producers said that he realizes people probably want to see Ben and Juliet die. Hello, I was watching my Season 2 DVDs in mourning and realized how awesome Ben is! He is such a slick actor. The part I think is hilarious is how he stated this after saying we will have a Diego and Nikki episode. I dont know about you guys but thats who I want them to kill off. They are terrible actors with no depth I could care less about them. What could possibly be so unique about their story that we havent heard? I am I alone here? Is there a way to campaign for their deaths? HELP, I think I may actually ahve to turn off an episode if its about them, they are so uninteresting. Id rather hear the backstory of Ms Klugh or Mr Friendly than BLAH AND BLAHHER
Comment by MissingVincent — January 17, 2007 @ 4:23 pm
The only reason the producers want 5 seasons or 100 episodes, which usually takes 5 season, is for syndication rights. I really think the main actors want out. Remember it’s not like they are highly paid and I hear the on location shooting has not been kind to alot of them.
Comment by Silky — January 18, 2007 @ 4:58 pm
“All the questions we get asked are about the mythology. But when we sit down and we work on the stories, we’re primarily spending most of our time talking about these characters and how they interact. And I think that if the characters became focused on the mythology, a lot of people would drop out. I think there’s a much larger audience that’s much more interested in who is Kate going to choose than the details about who Alvar Hanso is.”
Whoa, hang on a second here. I, for one, am WAY more interested in the mythology of the show than in the personal/character aspects. Don’t get me wrong, Lost wouldn’t be remotely as good as it is if not for the strong characters and the amazing cast, but c’mon now. I’m pretty sure most of us are watching this show because of the crazy mysteries, the survival and suspense. Not so much to see if Kate is going to choose Sawyer.
Can the Tailsection put up some kind of a poll to this extent? Mystery vs. Relationships?
Comment by jimmyzer0 — January 18, 2007 @ 7:56 pm
Aside from the press junket, I’ve heard several times over the last year or so the producers were looking at between 5 and 7 years. I personally would prefer 6 years, it’s short enough that they won’t go stale, and it’s long enough to feed my evil “Lost” addiction, haha.
Also, the mysteries are just as engaging as the relationships. I watch the show for both. Keeping secrets is half the fun.
Comment by Jeff — January 19, 2007 @ 9:27 am
jimmyzer0, here is another vote for mythology. But I think the beautiful thing about Lost is how the relationships and flashbacks compliment and play a part in the mythology
Comment by JoefromUtah — January 19, 2007 @ 11:03 am
I think most people on this site vote for mythology. Unfortunately the majority of the people who watch tv in general want relationships-which is why soap operas are on 5 days a week…
Comment by JStraw — January 19, 2007 @ 1:39 pm
Lost, 24, and Heroes are the three best ‘action dramas’ on TV right now, in that order.
While my heart reaches for that 7 season mark, my head tells me it would be more satisfying to end it after five or six.
If they initially set the arc at 4 seasons, pushing the same story three more years is stretching everything a little thin, and the amount they would have to string things out over that time would lose them a lot more viewers than have already dropped off.
Lastly, I really hope they don’t do the 24-style season. I can wait for Jack Bauer for 7 months, but I damn sure cannot wait that long for Jack Shepherd.
Comment by Revolution — January 19, 2007 @ 7:40 pm
Personally, i am hoping they do run the season like “24″, if not if will force them to try and make another mini season, where they have to force a story into a 6 or 7 episode block.
Comment by Dr. Nope — January 19, 2007 @ 10:40 pm
jimmyzer0 posted my exact thoughts regarding “Mystery vs. Relationships” comments, including his request for a poll.
It might be true that the general populace is more interested in who Kate is going to pick, but it is that same group of people whom are probably tuning out for American Idol in the first place. When something (ahem) better comes along, the general populace is long gone. The question is how long it will take for the hardcore “mythology” fans to give up in frustration.
Lost is already being moved to a different time slot to placate, or rather compete with, this general populace. The producers and executives should more closely examine their X-Files analogy and remember what really turned off its regular fan base. X-Files was at its best when it was a mystery-based drama with good characterization and relationships. It started failing when it became a ridiculous soap opera with little answers to be had.
I love the concept of Lost and am glad they are talking about a target end date. I also think a full, uninterrupted Season 4 is a great idea. However, my personal time is valuable and I refuse to stay linked to a show just because it was “good in the beginning”. The ABC execs and the producers of Lost should continue to make adjustments based on fan reaction; I will not stay up late to watch an inferior product, consequently I will no longer see the advertisements of their sponsors, and finally, I will cease to care.
I hope the rest of Season 3 is excellent and worth the wait. If not, I hope enough of us have the courage to walk away.
Comment by badwolf — January 20, 2007 @ 9:35 am
well well well…
I don’t wanna that Lost have six or seven seasons. I hope it have the enough for have a beautiful and awesome end. Something that made us say: “OMG!!! That’s true!! I knew it since the begin!! How couldn’t I see it before?!!!”
you know.. Somethng like that… and I believe in JJ, Damon, Carlton, Bryan… everybody. I know they will do the best for us, the Lost Fans, independent of ABC. I believe.
Comment by A Crazy LOST Fan — January 22, 2007 @ 10:47 am
I wake up on a Spring morning, to hear people whining outside. People whining on the Radio, people whining to supervisors and whining to principals and crying to just about anyone in their vicinity because things are not how they like it to be.
I watch lost because I love the story and I respect the actors for doing such great jobs especially Jack, Kate, Locke and Ben (acting at its best). The mysteries are amazingly unique and fresh n’ new. Nothing like this show has even been made, and I believe that as the story gets told a lot of people are going to just be sitting on their sofas with their jaws laying on their thighs which drool pouring out. They have an AWESOME story to tell, I just know it and its bigger than any 1 show. Now we all know that the relationships are dependent on the mysteries and vice versa and this is the reason Lost is SO good and why so many like it. Some like the myth. more and others like the relationships more, and even some like the flashbacks the best, but they are all ingrediants in this show and to take out anyone, is to eliminate viewers plain and simple.
What bothers me, is how people sit there and write about how they won’t like this if this happens or that if that happens, how they will stop watching is Jack dies, how they will stop watching if they DON’T kill Paulo and Nikki (or just Paulo lol), how they will just dislike the show because of a certain events or condition. For one, no one knows the plans that TPTB have for P&N. Sure their acting isn’t that great, but maybe this is the way they were directed to act at THIS point in the show. A lot of people sit around at their computers shooting off their mouth like they know everything that will happen, and try to tell TPTB how to run the show and what they should do next , EX. judgements on fan reactions. WTF, this is their show not ours, and what we want or don’t want is irrelevant to THE STORY that TPTB are trying to tell us, and we spoiled as crap are giving them a hard time in doing so.
So I suggest that you panzies that like to complain about everything under the sun, to shut up sit down and enjoy an awesome show made by awesome people or get the f**k away and go watch another show, so you can stop ruining a perfectly good show because it doesn’t suit your specific needs.
To the lad up above that said he might not watch an episode because it will be about Paulo and Nikki I just have to say one thing. You are the stupidest moron I ever had the pleasure to read from, How do you know that this is when they will tell us about them Paulo and Nikki and that they MIGHT just gt interesting and MIGHT just blend nicely with the overall storyline of the show?? YOU THINK?!?!?
I suggest everyone that doesn’t have anything good to say, to not say anything else at all, and to relax. Enjoy the Lost story and characters as it comes to you, watch the show don’t bitch about it. Its the BEST SHOW on TV, and I read all these whiners on so many forums, threatening to stop watching or so forth.
Totally f**k** SPOILED!!!

It’s all about the mythology!! The relationships (or lack there of) make it different from most shows on TV which just revert to that because it’s what the people want to see. It’s LOST’s lack of those (becideds sun and jin, and Rose and Bernard) that intreages the views and keeps them watching because we don’t have to keep up w/ that stupidity that comes w/ relationships!! GO LOST, and GO MYTHOLOGY!!

i’ve found the answer for the mosnter:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djinn
read this. it’s just a theorie, but makes sense. ANd i know about logical snd sciences explanation for the mysteries…
For the ancient Semites, jinn were spirits of vanished ancient peoples who acted during the night and disappeared with the first light of dawn; they could make themselves invisible or change shape into animals at will; these spirits were commonly believed to be responsible for diseases and for the manias of some lunatics. Types of jinn include the ghul (”night shade”, which can change shape), the sila (which cannot change shape), the afrit [ai'fɾɪt], and “marid” [mʌ'ɾɪd]. From information in The Arabian Nights, marid seem to be the strongest form of jinn, followed by afrit, and then the rest of the jinn.
Jinn are beings much like humans, possessing the ability to be good and bad. An “Ifrit” is a type of strong and powerful jinn. Evil or malicious jinn are called “Marid” usually they’re malicious due to their feeling they have been usurped by humans, example “Shaitan”. To protect oneself against evil jinn, Muslims say the Arabic phrase,”Bismillahi! Allahumma inna ‘audhu bika minal khubthi wal khabaa’ith”, or another dhikr.[1] Jinn have the power to transform into other animals and humans

They will do as many seasons as their are numbers in the sequence 4 8 15 16 23 42. Five years plus our “mini-season” this year is six seasons for six numbers. Each number representing an I-ching element of the arc of that particular season.
