Lost Spoiler - Rodrigo Santoro Leaks Spoilers
By way of DarkUFO: Rodrigo Santoro has opened his spoiler flapper to the press, letting slip some details some LOST fans will no doubt be celebrating over.
Seems Santoro has gone on the record stating that he will be filming a death sequence for his character Paulo this month. If memory serves, that puts Paulo’s death somewhere around episode 12-14.
Santoro was a little ambivalent about it, stating he’d rather be doing movies anyways. Fans in his native Brazil will have to wait awhile to see Santoro on their screens as LOST Season Two is just now preparing to air there in February.

Yeah!!!!! Essa cara e horrivel! Fico muito feliz que ele vai morrer. As long as his pretty lady friend survives.

As always on Lost, they’ll make the character interesting just before they kill him. Makes me think what the point in him being introduced even was, aside from the flashback we’re getting about the background losties so far, but who cares what the non-descript extras were doing anyway. If he turns out to be working for the Others undercover however I take it all back.

Damon about Nikki & Paulo:
Two of your most prominent characters right now are Nikki and Paulo, the castaways who were introduced during the mini-season. Did you guys think that it was risky to introduce them that way?
Well, that is a case where the separation of the season actually hurts you, because Nikki [Kiele Sanchez] and Paulo [Rodrigo Santoro] are actually part of a larger story that has not yet quite activated itself, and what you have seen so far is really setup for the big payoff that happens in the middle of the season, around episodes 13 and 14. It’s just a scenario where all I can say is that we think the payoff of the idea is very cool, and you just have to trust us a little while longer.
Nikki and Paulo have talked to each other about one of the complaints that some critics of the show have, which is that in this big group of 40-odd survivors, there are really only a handful who do stuff that matter. Are Nikki and Paulo going to be used to further that element at all?
I remember there was an episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” called “Below Deck.” Basically, the entire episode was told from the point of view of the guys who were bouncing off of your primary characters. So it was like, “Oh, yeah. There is a whole other crew to the Enterprise that’s around, but never f–king does anything.” The idea of hearing what they had to say is inherently interesting to me. We initially talked about doing that with Nikki and Paulo, but it was like, “Do we want to do that out of the gate, or do we want to see them in a couple of stories first, and then have the audience go, ‘Who the f–k are these guys? I would’ve noticed them—they’re spectacular looking. So what are they trying to pull on me here?’”

Didn’t I read somewhere that the fact that Paulo is Portuguese and the men in the arctic were speaking Portuguese wasn’t a “coincidence”? Doc!! A little help!
Plus the article that Dark posted doesn’t mention him being killed…he even eludes to coming back in some capacity…Does he take Jacks place on a boat off the island??
Comment by el Prez — January 10, 2007 @ 9:36 am
I stand corrected..He does say “probably dying”..
Comment by el Prez — January 10, 2007 @ 9:43 am
I got nothing against Paulo… He didnt do much yet, but thats how things started out with Locke too.
Whats up with that?
I dont like the idea. They just introduced these 2 new charakters. I hope, that Nikki stays alive.
Comment by Tommy — January 10, 2007 @ 10:33 am
This is interesting. Considering that the next episodes are not centric to Nikki or Paulo, not sure how they are going to go about this. Unless he gets killed and then there is a flashback. I will be miffed if there is no point to his character as they made a big deal about him and Nikki.
Oh and when smokey said to Locke “You’re next”…that is what he said and meant. I think when Locke says the phrase to the others, he is sort of flipping with meaning. Damon said that it was meant as “you’re (not they’re) next.

He’s been set up as worm food from day one, with his blaise attitude towards everything… my bet is that he’ll be killed by Nikki. They need a new crazy lady character now that Libby’s dead. Bank on it, baby!

It’s, me!

Screw them both, and let the paramedics sort them out!
Paulo dies from a rabid doses of genital herpes!
Thanks Nikki, Island Skank.

I hated the fact that this character (along with Nikki) was introduced at all. Why do we need these new character’s anyways if they are going to get killed off?! It seems like a waste of time (and talent). Not only that, but it takes away time from the original Losties that we don’t know much about. I.E. Claire! We haven’t had much from her backstory (among some other Losties as well). When they bring on new characters (like Nikki and Paulo) it looks like the writers have them on to cover up the fact that they have run out of ideas for the original Losties flashbacks. PLEASE NO NEW CHARACTERS!!!!!!!
Comment by Lucilla — January 11, 2007 @ 12:20 am
New characters further the story of the island and also feed other’s flashbacks. Libby fed into Desmond and Hurley. Ana fed into Jack and Saywer(if you count him running into her car with Christian in it). Eko fed into the drug plane and the psychic that Claire visited. All 3 were killed and all 3 tied back in to the greater good of the core characters.
Introducing new characters and then killing them off isn’t all that new to LOST. The Marshall has been more prominent in flashbacks than Ana or Libby. Christian Shepard has been almost as prominent in flashbacks than Eko. Both of these characters are dead, yet they further the story.
Most likely Juliet or Ben or any of the other Others who have been introduced will be killed or written off. I think it’s great and most people are judging Paulo and Nikki as fodder, just to be killed. Give it time. I’m sure the payoff will be worth it.

An ensemble cast has always been a part of what LOST is all about. This necessitates the introduction of new and interesting characters to bring new plot twists and story convergences.
I guess my main beef so far with Paulo and Nikki in particular is in two things:
- The abruptness of their introduction into the show. If the producers/writers were thinking things through in enough detail ahead of time, these characters could have been introduced in season 2 and given a few minutes of face time over that stretch to make their rise in prominence among the faceless group of 30 or so beach-dwelling losties more believable.
- The writing (and acting) for their characters so far. I really think the dialogue between the two of them, and between them and the rest of the cast has been sub-par. And so far, neither of them has demonstrated a hint of any acting chops whatsoever. The plot device of having Nikki be the one to postulate the use of the multiple other television sets in the pearl hatch ahead of Sayid (an electronics expert) and Locke (who had plenty more time to think about their purpose) seemed a very contrived way to suddenly give her credibility as the antithesis of the ‘dumb blonde’ eye candy which she might otherwise be taken for. The dialogue and acting in particular during that scene were the worst I have ever seen on LOST.
All that said, I hope that both characters develop a third dimension and get to contribute something positive to the story before they become part of the body count.

The season two in Brazil is endding now in the pay-per-view. in the open TV will begin in february 5th. but, I’m brazilian and I have made the downloads of the 3th season and i guess that rodrigo will not to die. he said it in a interview for a brazilian show called “fantástico”. that’s just my opinion, and sorry for my english if it has some mistakes… i’m learning.
e pro carinha aí de baixo, o rodrigo não é feio não, viu?
Comment by Taiane — January 12, 2007 @ 8:45 am
i think paulo and nikki could possibly be the people that are working inside of the pearl which is why she knew how to work the equipment in that hatch
Comment by elephantpoop — January 12, 2007 @ 11:39 am
decent theory “elephantpoop” but if they were wouldnt they all ready know about patchy n hu he was??
Comment by rob — January 12, 2007 @ 12:24 pm
true, depending on what patchy’s role on the island is. that may have been the first time they ever saw him because his hatch (the tailies hatch with the glass eye in it) was abandoned when they arrived on the island. that could have been his first time back there since the plane crash.
Comment by elephantpoop — January 12, 2007 @ 1:33 pm
Thank god, Paulo’s demise will not be something to shed a tear over (unlike Mr. Eko…still mourning you buddy) My only hope is that Paulo somehow takes Nikki with him and we can all forget about these two forever…
Comment by Revolution — January 12, 2007 @ 5:30 pm
i don’t know who it taiane, but that phrase “e pro carinha aí de baixo, o rodrigo não é feio não, viu?” is in portuguese. that means:
“and for the first guy in the comentaries, rodrigo isn’t ugly, okay?”
that’s it. i don’t know if it’s totaly corect, ’cause i’m learning portuguese, just like she is learning english!!
that’s the cool of “lost”, everybody learns something!!

This makes me upset. They introduce a character, a possible romanitc lead and a fresh new flashback character, and immeadiatly kill him off. Perhaps producers caught wind of all the negative fan reaction towards Paulo and Nikki. Fans should have given this character a chance.

The only problem I have with new characters is that you focus on them and give us nothing interesting and totally neglect main characters from the previous seasons. Like Rose and Bernard. Did they think that a hot young couple would be more of an attention grabbers? I personally prefer Rose and Bernard because to have an older couple fighting to survive brings much more drama than a fit young couple.

In some ways, Nikki & Paulo remind me of Boone & Shannon. I kinda felt they wanted these two to continue what Boone & Shannon didn’t (namely bigger character development!)
But if the powers-that-be want to kill Paulo, then so be it
Comment by Huygens — January 24, 2007 @ 12:50 am
Some people just don’t get it. I think people should listen to what Damon has said. We have only seen the first 6 episodes of this Season. There is 8 more that have been completed during this hiatus that WE HAVE NOT SEEN. Then around epi 14 Paulo will probably die and we have people on many sites saying well if he is going to die, then why did they introduce him? As Damon was saying if anyone here listens to his words, Paulo and Nikki are part of a bigger scheme that hasn’t been activated yet. Are people deaf? lol.
Yet, still people diss these 2 new characters on the show. Get the spoiled rod out of your butt, and think before you speak. It pisses me off, to find out that people are that stupid, that they don’t think that maybe there is a BIGGER picture with Paulo and Nikki.
How about you do yourself a favor and throw out your tv because these people surely don’t deserve a Television or to watch Lost.
Damon and Carleton must find it really annoying how they are trying to build up to interesting, adventurous and exciting events in the plot, while critics and show complaining whine about this and that. Ever think of just shutting up and letting them do their job , so that we can watch their show (story)? God
