I thought he would be there till at least the end of this season? I thought they wanted the finale to be ben-centric?
Comment by FrankEE — January 8, 2007 @ 8:53 am
frankEE, there is credible info that the finale is Ben-Centric, this is a from the horses mouth spoiler. A lot could change between now and when the finale goes into pre-production.

This one is the most interesting to me.
I remember when season two was ending the PTB said that we would see an event that connected the LOST island to the rest of the world. Now when the hatch imploded the island became visable, most of us always thought that was the connection. But I have always believed that the connection was the Sumatra-Andaman earthquake/December 26, 2004 tsunami that decimated so much of Southeast Asia.
Tsunamis are caused by giant underwater earthquakes, and I’d bet a large magnetic disturbance could cause some of those.
It’s a wild theory, but the timeline matches up pretty well.
Comment by Watchmen — January 8, 2007 @ 10:00 am
Watchmen - I doubt the writers of Lost would go so low as to fictionalize one of the most catastrophic and tragic events of our era.
Comment by RoundABout — January 8, 2007 @ 10:30 am
RoundABout- Why wouldn’t they? They referenced the Sox winning the World Series and Yankee fans would describe that as “catastrophic and tragic”…..
Comment by El Prez de LFC — January 8, 2007 @ 10:33 am
Yankees fans may not understand this, but nobody else in the world cares if they win the world series or not. So that is definatley NOT catastrophic and tragic.
Comment by Gary — January 8, 2007 @ 11:03 am
RoundABout, I don’t think fictionalize is the right word - it’s really just creating an alternate causality. Do you really think that would trivialize the disaster? I hadn’t thought of that, but it didn’t strike me that way when I first read Watchman’s post. In fact, I thought it was an amzing theory of what they might do and it’s always cool to see them tie this island of unknown power to real-world events. I don’t think I would be offended… but then again if they did some sort of Sept. 11 thing, I would be, tremendously so. But that wasn’t a natural disaster like the tsunami or Katrina. It’s kind of like Greek myths using supernatual dieties as explanations for natual events. Would others be offended?
Comment by Land of the Lostie — January 8, 2007 @ 11:12 am
I know it’s prety crazy, but it is a theory that’s haunted me since I saw the season 2 finale. I don’t nessesarily think that I’m in correct as Roundabout said it would be a very controversial story point.
But part of me hopes that the writers are that daring, that they are willing to face harsh criticism to tell a truely great story. I’m of the opinion that the best fiction comes from reality, and to tie LOST to the real world in such a extream way would impress me. Consider the consequences if this theory were true… at least in the world of the show our losties actions could literally save or destroy the world.
Good drama is all about stakes, and this would certainly raise the bar in a crazy way.
Anyhow back to work…
Comment by Watchmen — January 8, 2007 @ 11:47 am
Relax folks, I doubt the LOST writers are going to do anything like that at all.
Comment by docarzt — January 8, 2007 @ 11:59 am
Excellent, I’d love more Ben/John scenes, the ones they did in Lockdown, Dave and SOS are excellent, some of my favorites so far.
If Mr. Emerson wants to leave, that’s one thing, but they’d be insane to kill off Ben this season.
Comment by Jeremy Bender — January 8, 2007 @ 1:32 pm
Having redeemed himself to Claire, Charlie’s future will be in doubt when Desmond shares a vision with him.
Charlie can’t die! I would die if that happened!
Comment by i<3charlie — January 8, 2007 @ 2:45 pm
Watchman,
Controversity and sensitivity to people effected aside, in terms of the Lost timeline, there is NOT a match up. The explosion of Swan Station took place in late November, not late December. That’s a full month too early.

Comment by rob — January 9, 2007 @ 6:13 am
the 70’s object may be the statue, but why would there be two of them?? Also i hope desmonds future seeing abilities come into use soon. Not reely bothered if charlie dies, boring character
Comment by simon — January 9, 2007 @ 6:19 am
When I first read that (the vision with Charlie) I thought that it’d probably have something to do with Claire or little baby Aaron.

does anyone have any theories about what/where/why The Others are keeping some of the survivors (mostly the talies)captive/secluded?
Comment by tye — January 10, 2007 @ 1:43 pm
Ive had a great theory on that for a while. I think the others are creating a supervirus on the island. this virus is extremely deadly and will kill almost everyone that gets it. i say almost because a very small percentage of people, maybe 1% have a natural immunity to the virus.
The others intend to release this virus on the world, and it could kill billions of people. the virus doesnt show its effects for a week or longer, giving people time to spread it around the world before the first signs show.
The method of releasing the virus would be sending infected carriers of the virus around the world. these carriers are the Lostees. the lostees were all hand picked through their medical/criminal records because they are the perfect candidates. they have been watched for possibly decades. through manipulation, they “guided” each lostee through their lives, and caused everyone to get on that plane.
nearly every lostee has the natural immunity to the virus, thats why they were picked. some people on the plane didnt have the immunity, and most of those people were “taken” early on by the others so they could be immunized. others were killed, or havent been gotten to yet.
The virus cannot kill the lostees, but they can still be carriers, and they are highly infectious. everything going on is a con by the others(the creators of the virus) because they cant let the Lostees know what is going on at any cost. the plan is, after a long time, they will get rescued. the meantime, they will be infected by the virus, spreading it to the rescuers. after getting rescued, they will eventually fly home. at this point the virus will b further spread to people in the airports where they depart and arrive. Korea, America, Australia, europe. because the virus wont show signs for a long time, the virus will spread globally, and the people will start to die.
Billions will die. this will cut down on global pollution, poverty, it will save animals. in general, it will save the planet, from all the damage we cause. this is the DHARMA initiative, to creat a utopian society.

Wow, people are stupid. Who KNOWS if the implosion is directly related to the tsunami? Who says that the show has to relate the tsunami to anything?
Why not re-create a catatrophic event? Its not like we haven’t done it in the past? Hurricane movies, The Perfect Storm, Pearl Harbor, (the new 9/11 movies, the new Movies pertaining to the war in Iraq, yata yata yata.) Please don’t say sh** if you don’t know.
There has been hints and clues pointing towards a tsunami on the show.
Come on people, think before you type.

jmarcroyal i have some question for ya. why the hell the others send Ethan and Goodwin to make a list of people that they “brought” to the island? The others care about something? i think that the others are being played, they are all cobaias.
Comment by dude, we are save — January 18, 2007 @ 9:20 pm
forget tsunami dudes, i bet that antatica goes to melt, or something like that, LOST in not about just the survivers of the flight anymore
Comment by dude, we are save — January 18, 2007 @ 9:40 pm
if a tsunami had occured as a result of the hatch implosion, the sea would have been litirally sucked away and the beach would have grown to amazing proportions this didnt happen - so this wont happen…. does anyone have a link to any info about who jacob is, the guy who’s meant to be above ben - and formed the lists?!?

on the episode where sayind has to convince his terrorists friend to kill himself, the american soldier who lets him go in the end, is one of the others.
Comment by flodge — January 30, 2007 @ 8:00 am
Someone said they would be horribly offended if there was a tie-in to september 11th. Well, prepare to be horribly offended. This is from the Lostpedia spoiler page. I figure since this is a spoiler thread no-one will mind another very much.
“Jack asks Juliet what Ben said to her and she replies that he is finally going to let her go home. She reveals that she has been on the island for 3 years, 2 months, and 23 days. According to the various LOST time-lines out there, this means she arrived on 9/11/2001.”
Personally, I think it’ll be revealed that the reason why nobody can find Osama Bin Laden is because he’s ON THE DAMN ISLAND THAT GOD CAN’T EVEN SEE! I never in my wildest dreams thought that Lost would take this kind of right-wing bent.
Comment by myrkur — February 1, 2007 @ 2:23 am
so it’s Osama BEN Laden now is it?

No, it’s not. It’s Kelvin. Kate’s step-father is in that scene, too.
