Season 4 Lineup and The Possible End of the Series!

Lost Spoilers — January 15, 2007 at 10:57 am by Brinson

There is no real need to go too much into this because most of you have already heard the news about this because a mass of articles have popped up from USA Today (Pop Candy, & the Front Page) ABC News, Coming Soon.net, Entertainment Weekly, etc. Sooo, odds are you already know the news and I don’t want to sound to redundent, but for those who haven’t heard the word…

It’s Always Sunny on the Eyeland! (Slight Spoiler)

Lost Spoilers — January 12, 2007 at 7:31 am by Brinson

Have you ever watched (or even heard of) It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia? If you haven’t you need to go to Youtube right now, because it is one of the funniest shows on Tv today! "It’s Always Sunny" deals with some off the wall topics and makes them extremely funny and it is slowly acquiring a rabid fanbase. One of those fans just happens to be Damon Lindelof. Damon is such a big fan he has invited Rob McElhenry (Who plays Mac on the show and he also happens to be the Creator and one of the Writers as well) to come on Lost as an actor.  The role Rob will play happens to…

Coming to a Torrent Near you…. LOST Not In Portland

Lost News — at 6:21 am by Brinson

Face it, if Jack Bauer couldn’t avoid the pirates, either will Jack, Kate, and Sawyer.  Yesterday, screeners of LOST Not in Portland started showing up in film critics mailboxes around the world.  Those lucky bastards all caught an early glimpse at the goodness that is LOST’s february 7th return.  I’m not going to be so asinine as to bother telling you what the general consensus is on the episode  - c’mon, could it be anything other than great?  I suspect those of us with a torrent client will know soon enough.

Now, I don’t support that kind of activity, but I suspect with the passion that this group of fans has for LOST that morals will go out the window as soon as word hits the street of the episodes availability.

Special note to ABC.  Our circulation is actually larger than some of the newspapers I’ve read ‘not in portland’ reviews in this morning… where’s the love.  (I swear I have no idea how to rip a dvd, scouts honor.)

On the other hand, if you are a member of the media in the Maine area with possession of this coveted episode and would be interested in offerring doc a private viewing…. please email me at doctorarzt@gmail.com .

Lost Foilers - How not to Fake a Script Page

Lost News — January 8, 2007 at 1:33 pm by Brinson

Got this little number from a mysterious "insider" who claims access to the writing rooms trash.  First of all, I think I remember stories concerning the high level of security given to LOST scripts.  (Of course, the call-sheet incident of last season certainly showed a few holes in that process, but anyways.)

I’m positive, though, that any rejects are shredded.  None-the-less, our Mysterious "insider" sent me several pages he claims are from an early draft of "Not in Portland".  There are several reasons to believe this is fake, since you need to see the page I’ll do that after the link.

BEWARE: Script Contains Foul Language.

The Ballad of Doctor Arzt

Lost Mythology — January 7, 2007 at 12:49 pm by Brinson

I’m a little embarrassed I didn’t know about this sooner… I was perusing Daniel "Doctor Arzt" Roebuck’s website today (www.danielroebuck.com) and came across an entry concerning a Doctor Arzt action that was custom built for him by Highly Flammable Toys.

Apparently,  the LOST writers contributed a back story to the figure that gives us Doc Arzt’s background in a nutshell.  I’ve transcribed it here:

"Born in an unremarkable suburb of Jersey City, Leslie Arzt soon demonstrated the kind of promise that could only herald a doctorate from an unremarkable university in the state system.  Though not a particularly patient or didactic man, Leslie Arzt soon parlayed the staggering lack of interest shown him by employers in the private sector into a long-term career teaching science in the New Jersey Public Schools system.  While neither a student nor faculty favorite - and in brazen defiance of a brusque personal style that rendered him unfit for the job - Dr. Arzt (as he insisted on being called by everyone from students to school board administrators) courageously expanded his activities from mere teaching in teachers union politics.  After giving decades of his life and sacrificing - by his own account - three marriages to his activities, Dr. Arzt finally took a vacation to Sydney Australia.  The cataclysmic crash of Oceanic 815 left Dr. Arzt one of the 48 survivors stranded on an uncharted island.  On the island, Dr. Arzt soon wen about making friends and influencing people in his own indomitable style - alas, this bright light was snuffed out explosively during an impromptu lecture on the instability of nitroglycerin.   Few who knew him will truly miss him."

So there it is.  Another character’s back-story put to rest, however sardonically.

Jeff Jensen Returns from Hiatus!

Lost News — January 4, 2007 at 9:16 am by Brinson

That general all-around nice guy and scholar of all things LOST, Jeff  "Doc" Jensen, will be coming off hiatus tomorrow with a great opportunity no LOST fan should miss!  Check it out:

Tomorrow, Friday, Doc Jensen returns from hiatus at ew.com as we begin a big month of Lost content. I have some new theories which I hope people will find interesting, but the big thing is that I’m asking people to complete a one question survey and send me their most burning question for the Lost producers. I’m going to be doing an interview with the guys soon and I intend to ask as many fan questions as possible.

Cool stuff huh?  Well hold on to your hats, with Jeff’s permission we bring you a special sneak peek into what is to come when Doc Jensen touches down on EW.com tomorrow!  What follows is an excerpt from Doc’s most Losterific theory to date.  Check it out, and don’t forget to visit EW.com tomorrow for more!

THEORY! There is a connection-perhaps merely thematic; perhaps more than thematic-between Lost and the classic Christian hymn, "Amazing Grace." I say this because of something Damon Lindelof said during the recent EW-hosted roundtable discussion with Stephen King and the Lost producers. Lindelof mentioned that the show had an inherent expiration date, as "the more the characters in Lost are ‘found,’" the closer this serialized saga gets toward its inevitable, natural end.  It was a curious choice of words, as they echo the famous lyrics in "Amazing Grace," which like Lost, traffics in themes of redemption and epiphany. Also of note: the writer of "Amazing Grace," John Newton, was famous for being… the captain of a slave ship. (I wonder if he ever crossed paths with the Black Rock?) In fact, it can be argued that each stanza of the song can meaningfully (or ironically) correlate to each season of Lost, and the show’s most grace-blessed soul, John Locke. To wit:

STANZA ONE

"Amazing grace/How sweet the sound/That saved a wretch like me/I once was lost/but now am found/was blind but now I see."

APPLICATION TO LOST, SEASON ONE: Well, it’s a show about a bunch of wretches seeking redemption, salvation, or transformation. The first image of the first episode is an act of seeing: Jack’s eye, blinking open, waking up from the darkness of unconsciousness. But really, season one is all about the Born Again metamorphosis of John Locke. Physically, Locke regains the use of his legs, a blindness-to-sight miracle. Spiritually, he sees the light-ironically, in the shadowy, billowing face of Smokey The Monster. Of course, for most of season one, Smokey is not seen, but heard. True, the roar of this creature-part mechanical, part animal–is far from sweet. But consider this: if Smokey is a manifestation of this island, and if the island for Locke is God, then remember that according to almost every major world religion, God isn’t exactly all sweetness and light, either. In fact, in The Old Testament, God is a fearsome, law-enforcing judge, just like old Smokey, as proud Mr. Eko painfully discovered. And by the way, remember the form that God takes when he hangs out with the Israelites? That’s right: a big cloud. Pretty wild. Pretty far-out. Pretty… amazing. Don’t you think?

[PS: "part mechanical, part animal" = Mechanical Animals, the best album ever recorded by Marilyn Manson, aka "The Antichrist Superstar." THEORY: The true purpose of The Dharma Initiative was to save our downward spiraling world by faking a kind of Second Coming/Judgment Day. The island was/is a staging area for building this "Anti-Christ," aka Smokey. If there truly was an "incident," per the Orientation Film, it's probably that Dharma lost control of its FrankenGod.  The island now serves as a prison for Smokey, although it's trying to find a way to break out and fulfill its mission in the larger world. OR: The passengers of Oceanic 815 have been brought to the island as unwitting test subjects in a dress rehearsal of its Judgment Day Deception. If this theory is close to being true, then Lost owes a debt to genius comic scribe Alan Moore, who's Watchmen pivots on a similar plot point, which itself was borrowed from a famous episode of The Twilight Zone.]
