Those marketing geniuses over at ABC are at it again. An e-mail went out this morning announcing that everyone’s favorite fake airline, Oceanic, will be back in business as of Monday, December 31. It seems that the bad press regarding the disaster of Flight 815 can’t keep them down forever.

I decided to do it. On Christmas Eve, I walked in to my local DVD-selling establishment and picked up the season three DVD of Lost. I figure the entire season can easily be re-watched before the January 31 premiere of season 4, and my fandom could only be enhanced by the experience. I have never been one to re-watch series I’ve already seen, but Lost deserves it and I thought it’d be fun to write about it here on The Tail Section. So, over the next month or so, I’ll be periodically dropping in and giving my thoughts on the episodes as I progress through Lost’s third season, now knowing how the season will end.

If you need a nice refresher of the first three seasons of Lost, or simply want to introduce friends to the series without sitting them down for days on end, ABC has a video that can help. The network has just released a recap of the entire series on their website, cleverly titled "Lost in 8:15." Yes, you can now pummel the entirety of Lost into your brain in just over eight minutes, though I wouldn’t recommend operating any heavy machinery afterwards.

It’s absolutely impossible for me to get enough "Best Of" lists at the end of the year. I love seeing the entertainment I adore being celebrated, talked about, and praised by the masses. Thankfully, though the Golden Globes recently snubbed Lost in all categories, the series is still making the year-end lists of many critics, who are ranking it as one of the best shows of 2007. If you ever needed validation that Lost is still one of the greatest shows on television, you’ll find it here.

In my previous "Unanswered Questions" articles, I’ve speculated and theorized over various mysteries that have yet to be answered by the series. However, not all of the questions I have about Lost are regarding the labyrinthine plot of the show. I also have questions about the state of the series itself, especially now that ABC has officially announced plans to bring Lost back for eight episodes beginning on January 31. Is this long-awaited return actually a good thing, or could ABC’s insistence to burn through the completed episodes end up having negative consequences for both the show and the fans?

Those hoping for another mobisode that teases some of the mythological aspects of the Lost story, such as the one involving Ben and Juliet from a couple weeks ago, may be disappointed by this latest installment, entitled "Buried Secrets." However, this short snippet is a treat for those of us who miss the Jin-Sun-Michael triangle from the olden days. While not exactly a necessary addition to the series, this mobisode does show just how close Sun and Michael came to crossing a line in their friendship.

It’s been a holiday season full of wonderful gifts for Lost fans, with ABC releasing the return date for the series, two ridiculously awesome trailers, and now a batch of promotional photos from the first episode of season four. The episode, entitled "The Beginning of the End," is set to air on January 31, and while these new photos don’t give too much away, there’s certainly enough here to set our minds spinning.

My last two "Unanswered Questions" articles have been criticized by some for going over queries that are crustier than day old bread. That’s why this time I’ve decided to tackle a question that none of us were talking about prior to the season three finale: just who was that in the coffin at the funeral Jack attended? There are many possibilities, so let’s take a look at them one by one and see if we can outsmart those crafty writers.

If the brief Lost season four trailer that we got our hands on last week wasn’t enough for you, an extended version has now hit the web. This one minute and 46 seconds is extremely tantalizing, mixing footage we’ve already seen with some new shots, including a couple glimpses of new cast members. January 31 really can’t get here quickly enough for my liking.

Today’s Lost: "Missing Pieces" mobisode is a surprising change of pace. After last week’s great installment, mobisode 7, cleverly titled "Arzt and Crafts," takes us back to season 1 and features more than two people.
Of course, as the title would suggest, everyone’s favorite pink mist is back, and Arzt does not disappoint. He confronts Jin, Sun, Hurley and Michael about the first season decision to go live in the caves. I have to admire the Lost writers for their willingness to point out their own faults with meta characters like Arzt. He goes on about how Jack, the bald guy, and what’s-her-face are going. It’s amusing to see a background player refer to the main cast as nobodys.
