How Lost Will End… The Finalists! UPDATED
Over a week ago I announced a task, and a prize… create your own ending to LOST. The response was overwhelming, to say the least! Thanks to the dedication of BunnySuction and our good friend Natalie (ella.journalspace.com) we are finally able to present the finalists! Because of the size of some of the entries, we decided it would be fair to give an objective summary of each of the 14 (yes we came up 6 shy…)
Since BuddyTV is also syndicated through google news, we thought it would be best to host the finalists there to get everybody the maximum exposure for their hard work. Now…. the task is in your hands. Review the entries, pick your favorite, and vote on the poll beneath. The winner will receive the authentic, autographed copy of "Two for the Road"… and the runner’s up may… and I mean may… be in for a treat themselves. So let the fun begin!:
01. Patchy is the Man
02. The Endless Cycle Ends03. The Life of the Island
04. The Dark Tower Effect
05. Wouldn’t you like to be an Other too?
06. That Darn Dog!
07. Profiteering Patchy
08. The Metafictional Waltz09. Rock Around the Locke Tonight!
10. Got Some Raid?
11. The Snow Globe Effect
12. Fate, Formulas, and a time machine
13. Congratulations, You’re an Alien!
14. Jack and Locke as Sacrifices to Faith
echo $php_poll->poll_process(52);

Hell yeah, that was some good shit there, thanks for the reading material Doc ;D

Gotta be the endless cycle…as soon as I read that, suddenly the whole show made sense to me.

I really like the one about the new planet, the alien one. The most original anyway.

First you vote bush in, and then this, you americans annoy me a lot.
Comment by sheepboy — December 11, 2006 @ 1:54 pm
what the heck…last 50 votes were all for #7…doesn’t seem right.
Comment by obrgo — December 11, 2006 @ 3:33 pm
rigged much?

1. When does the voting end?
2. Will you eliminate multiple votes from the same IP address? I think some ballot stuffing is going on here, and it would be a shame given that there is a very nice prize.
Comment by obrgo — December 11, 2006 @ 4:02 pm
wait. How do we know that people are ballot-stuffing? I didnt think that was possible.

sorry bout that my computer is so screwed up…
Comment by Ian — December 11, 2006 @ 4:21 pm
Well, when there were 190 votes, theory #10 had almost no votes. Now, with 290 votes, it suddenly has 95 votes. So, 95 out of the last 100 votes were for Theory #10. Statistically, that is extremely unlikely. Basically, it means the contest is fixed and this website is crap–unless they go back and eliminate multiple votes from the same IP address (hopefully they will.)
Comment by obrgo — December 11, 2006 @ 4:36 pm
Repeat votes WILL BE ELIMINATED. You can take it to the bank!
Comment by docarzt — December 11, 2006 @ 5:25 pm
Presto! Additional security measures applied. Bogus votes removed.
Comment by docarzt — December 11, 2006 @ 5:42 pm
I agree that ballot stuffing and repeat votes should be eliminated. However, some of these theories come from people with blogs and if they post on their blog that they’re in a contest, it makes sense that they might jump up fairly quickly. (Like right after they say, “Hey, check out my theory on tailsection.) Obviously, there’s a difference between this kind of activity and obvious multiple votes.
To clarify: If number 10 has their own blog and posted something about the contest, well… perhaps he/she had 95 readers come vote. In any event the webmaster will be able to check for hanging chads.
(By the way, I’m not number 10… I’m just trying to say… this is a fun thing. And, with a promise that multiple votes will be eliminated, there’s really no reason to get upset about it.)

Hey when does the voting end?
Comment by Ian — December 11, 2006 @ 5:58 pm
i still don’t think the voting is right….i have been watching it since the polls opened, and the ones that went into the early lead, before all the ballot stuffing, are now way behind. it’s a shame than people can’t be honest when a real prize is one the line. maybe you guys should only take votes from registered users.

Ok i have a question for anyone out there,it sounds weird, but i dont know what else to do.I just finished watching the whole second season of lost and i did not understand the last episode. What was the whole deal with the others and them taking Jack,Kate and sayer.I just dont understand why they took them.It was like two episodes before the last one that when michael got captured and they took him to ask him questions, well anyway getting to the point walt said something about tests.what the heck was that all about its driving me crazy, who are the others scientists.
Comment by caleb burgard — December 11, 2006 @ 8:20 pm
Have faith folks. You can rest assured that any voting shenanigans have been dealt with both effectively and accurately. Caleb, check out the Season 3 episodes for some of the answers you’re looking for, and the forums are a great place to get some insight on those questions still unanswered.
Comment by Bunny Suction — December 11, 2006 @ 8:44 pm
Jagger - It actually is correct now. We removed votes from identical ips and I locked down the poll so 1 IP can only vote every 72 hours. The voting ends friday.

When will the 2nd contest start?
Comment by Josh — December 12, 2006 @ 9:20 am
Endless cycle theory rocks!! How about if they crash a spacecraft at the end of the series!!
Comment by LegoMyEggo — December 12, 2006 @ 10:06 am
ok ive been folowing this from near the beginning and just yesterday the votes were less than 150 and now they are 400. i rly think this is being rigged as i can point out a few, dare i say, crappy theories up there that shouldnt be there
Comment by dallas — December 12, 2006 @ 1:28 pm
not rigged as in the people who made this contest but rigged as in vote stuffing, i rly only think members should vote and also think the previous major cheaters (admin knwo who) should be disqualified
Comment by dallas — December 12, 2006 @ 1:31 pm
Dallas…. impossible. One ip can only vote once in a 72 hour period. I have backscanning for vidalia users… Anything that is bogus will get stripped away daily. An additional 250 votes considering that we had 23,000+ visitors since then isn’t suspect, it’s pitiful.
Comment by docarzt — December 12, 2006 @ 1:39 pm
I don’t know man… I thought most of em were weak. Course I have to take into consideration that they are describing the end…as in, the very end, but I was hoping for some actually theories…about most of what is going on. Shoot, shoulda put my theory in there.

I have a feeling that endless cycle is cheating, it’s a weak theory so why does it have so many votes?? The survivors becoming the others? Thats weak. The new colony one is probably the best but it’s so far down, the dark tower effect is definetely the worst.
Comment by famesjames — December 13, 2006 @ 6:27 am
I like the Endless Cycle Theory. I won’t say which I voted for, but I’m not surprised ECT has a place near the top. Incidentally, theories that are doing better than others which are just as good have probably just promoted themselves better amongst friends, blogs, and others. If there’s a theory you would like to see win, post about it in the blogsphere and try and rally some support behind it.
Comment by Bunny Suction — December 13, 2006 @ 7:01 am
Remember guys, we are choosing and writing based on our personal perceptions of what LOST means to us. So it’s not very enlightened to say what is good, bad, or worse. It’s all based on consensus. And I’m on cheating high alert, polling for IP spoofers and the whole nine yards. ECT is legitimately in the lead. Although, it may not be by as many votes as you think. If there is one you think should be doing better, I encourage you to get behind it and promote it however you feel necessary. If people agree, they’ll vote
Comment by docarzt — December 13, 2006 @ 8:40 am
Famesjames do you mean the new colony one titled rock around the locke tonight? I think that one is really the best.

Comment by udontknow — December 13, 2006 @ 8:46 am
i was talking about the one titled ‘conglatulations you’re an alien’which is kinda an unfair title really seeing as it has nothing to do with aliens.
Comment by famesjames — December 13, 2006 @ 9:33 am
FamesJames: Congratulations, your an alien works. The 815′rs are being weeded through, the best get to colonize another planet. Hence, becoming residents of another planet makes them aliens in the end.
Comment by docarzt — December 13, 2006 @ 10:16 am
it’s cool how different everybody’s opinions are…personally i think the endless cycle makes the most sense, so i am glad it’s leading!
Comment by superjohn — December 13, 2006 @ 11:18 am
i duno to me the endless cycle thoery is kinda weak. little character development and no creativity. it realy is possible that contestants are just getting their friends to vote or voting in different places. meh
Comment by dallas — December 13, 2006 @ 12:56 pm
I don’t think the election is fixed. When they first posted the poll, Endless Cycle was first with about 30% of the vote through the first hundred votes. Then, all the craziness happened with 2 or 3 theories getting 50 or 100 votes in a row, bringing the vote total to about 450. Then, all the duplicate votes were eliminated, and Endless Cycle was back in first place. It has evened out some, down to about 24% (but still in the lead) with 600 total votes in the poll. Sounds kosher to me.
Comment by spectre99 — December 13, 2006 @ 2:47 pm
spectre99, the endless cycle was one of the ones that got the extra 50 votes, that and profiteering patchy i think. then when the highest was like 12-15%, endless jumped ahead in less than an hour and the votes shot up by 200
Comment by dallas — December 13, 2006 @ 4:30 pm
dallas, i don’t think that’s right. i voted for Endless Cycle, and it fell behind two other theories that shot up, and only went back in the lead when the moderator removed the bogus votes…in any event, i think they have good control on this poll now, so the bogus voting from before is irrelevant.
Comment by spectre99 — December 13, 2006 @ 5:14 pm
spectre99 , i may be wrong its too long ago to remember, but im pretty sure…
Comment by dallas — December 13, 2006 @ 5:18 pm
If you notice a surge ahead and then a drop back it is because I have weeded out dupe votes or votes coming from proxy/ip forwarding services. In general, the vote counts are pretty accurate as they sit now.
