Matthew “Jack” Fox’s big screen turn “We Are Marshall” in which he plays legendary Marshall University football assistant coach Red Dawson had screenings yesterday and the early reaction seems to be to get your cheering voice, hankies, and Oscar nominations ready: “We are Marshall” is poised to be one of, if not the, best sports oriented films of history.

In 1970, the championship bound Marshall team was killed in a plane crash. The event became a dark center of gravity for the community and families that had invested so much pride and admiration in the players. Director McG, Fox, and star Matthew McConaughey set about to tell the amazing story of how the school came together in the memory of the fallen to lead an improvised team of grid-iron greenies onto glory.

It’s a story of tragedy, hope, and renewal executed to perfection; and Matthew Fox’s performance is nothing short of an integral part of that mixture.

“Matthew Fox understands the power of stillness.” Was one comment McG made about the actor; fans and critics in attendance were simply blown away by Fox’s performance.

“We are Marshall” is not the first big screen venture to carry good buzz for Matthew Fox; his role in the upcoming “Vantage Point” is said to be pivotal as well and the screen-play by Barry Levy is legendary.

With all this big screen success, should we worry about Doctor Jack packing his bag and heading off for the bright lights of Hollywood? Some might argue he is already there.
