Hard to believe, I know, but there are several shows that are nearly as cool as LOST and a great way to help eliminate the big hiatus jitters. Itching for a fix of rich characterized weirdness and surreality? My assignment for BuddyTV was to find FIVE shows that would satisfy any jonzin LOST fan. I think I found em….

Hiatus Relief Begins!

Lost News — at 10:01 am by Brinson

It’s a desperate situation. The last several weeks have left us with broken spirits. All we hear is how Heroes is answering all its questions (won’t have anything to talk about next season, but hey). Day Break is awesome, but the fans aren’t biting. Let’s face it. We all have the got no LOST blues. And it aint pretty. Are we just going to stand-by and let the fact that we have TEN MORE WEEKS of no new LOST get us down? Hell no!

So I raided my closet, and every week we are going to introduce a new contest. A contest built around celebrating the creativity of not only LOST, but the brilliant fan community that has risen around it. I have autographed screenplays, autographed pics, soundtrack cd’s, books, you name it! Phase one is already under-way… more about that in a bit.

In the meantime, if you need something to watch, check out my article at Buddytv. I was assigned the task of finding five television shows that could satiate the same nerve centers LOST lives in; essentially, my goal is to give you some kind of LOST like experience. Kinda like chocolate and morphine for heroin, I suppose.

Now. Contest Number One!

As described in my previous post, the goal of this contest is to write your own ending for LOST. It can be prediction, it can be original, it can even be built around a discredited theory… as long as it is yours.

The contest plays out in the forums, so you need to sign up and I’ll give you the thread in a second. On December sixth, a group of LOST luminaries from around the web will peruse the thread and pick their favorite endings. These endings will be published here and a poll will be placed in the forum where the community at large can vote on their favorites. I’m sticking with the forums since the last time we did polls here, the Brazilians tried to shill Rodrigo Santoro into a recurring role.

This weeks prize is a signed copy of “Two for the road”, YES the episode where ANA and LIBBY get killed, and it is up for grabs! (The script is signed by Elizabeth Sarnoff and Christina M. Kim, the writers of Two for the Road.) The script includes DELETED scenes and dialog and is a hell of a fine piece of screen-writing.

Win an Authographed LOST Script! Tell Us How LOST will END!

Lost News — November 28, 2006 at 2:20 pm by Brinson

Steven King gave us his theory, now is your chance to give us yours AND get a little payback.

I have a signed copy of “Two for the road”, YES the episode where ANA and LIBBY get killed, and it is up for grabs! (The script is signed by Elizabeth Sarnoff and Christina M. Kim, the writers of Two for the Road.)

How to win:

Reply to this thread with your outline of how you think LOST will, or could end. On December 6th, a panel of LOST luminaries (me, and a few other guys you probably know from the web) will decide on the top twenty. The top twenty will be published on the front page of thetailsection.

Users will then vote via forum poll for which idea is the BEST! The winner gets the script!

So put on your thinking caps. Think you have an idea that explains it all? This can either be your theory based on what we know, or an original idea from scratch! Post it here!

Stephen King Explains How he Would End LOST!

Lost News — at 8:05 am by Brinson

The upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly has a BOMBASTICALLY cool article which is basically a conversation moderated by Jeff Jensen between Stephen King, JJ Abrams, Carlton Cuse, and Damon Lindelof! The conversation took place right here in Maine (I’m a Mainer, ayuh) in King’s home town of Bangor - just 40 minutes up the road from yours truly. For Jeff’s memoir of the event click here.

During the conversation, the inevitable happened. Much to the delight of dual LOST/KING fans everywhere they asked King the big one: How would you end LOST. His answer lays beneath the jump!

Moderators Wanted!

Lost News — November 22, 2006 at 6:15 pm by Brinson

Growing Pains! Growing Pains! The Tailsection is currently seeking moderators for our forums. Duties would include helping cut down the rampant spam, pruning/combining threads where necessary, and helping to improve the climate! Team-mentality is a must! No gun-slingers!

Since our forums are part of a lager set, interest in those areas would be helpful as well.

experience with Vbulletin or similar forum scripts helpfull, but willing to train the right folks! Send an e-mail to doc@thetailsection.com if you are interested. Namaste!

Hurley Gets a Daddy

Lost News — at 8:20 am by Brinson

Michael Ausiello is reporting that legendary actor/comedian Cheech Marin (Cheech and Chong) will be embodying the role of Hurley’s dad in an episode set to air on February 28th.

In a crossing of LOST proportions, Marin once performed a sketch with Tommy Chong called “Dave’s not here.” I can’t get the image of Marin adamantly reprimanding a disillusioned Hurley that “Dave’s not here.” It would just be classic.

In honor of this news, I’ve put together a little video in case any of you doubt that Cheech is, indeed, the perfect choice to play Hurley’s pappy. You can download the avi below, and I’ve included a cruddy little you-tube version after the jump. Enjoy.

Holloway to Join The X-MEN?

Lost News — November 21, 2006 at 1:34 pm by Brinson

Caught an interesting piece at moviehole.net (via DarkUFO) which would seem to revive the rumor that Josh “Sawyer” Holloway is still under consideration to play Gambit:

Rumours that “Lost” favourite Josh Holloway might be still on FOX’s radar to play a possible ‘Gambit’ – a character fans have long wanted to see in the series for quite some time now – may have been confirmed this past weekend.

Talking to IESB, “X-Men” series producer Lauren Schuler Donner mentioned that model cum actor Holloway – who plays Sawyer on the hit TV series - is someone that she’d love to see in the role of the comic-book mutant. (Holloway actually near signed up to play the part last year).

hollowaygambit.jpg

“Remember in “Lost”? The guy, what’s his name, there was a guy in there that was the perfect Gambit, the guy with the straight hair, good-looking, the bad boy…Sawyer, Sawyer”, she said.

As for the studio’s plans for ‘Gambit’, the producer remains tight-lipped, except to say that he will pop up in one of the forthcoming “X-Men” adventures. (She’s not saying whether that will be “X-Men 4”, the Young “Magneto” movie or “Wolverine”).

“The reason we didn’t use Gambit [in “X-Men” 1-3] was because in a sense his persona is a bit like Wolverine in that he’s got attitude and his power is not quite as exciting as the others”, said Schuler-Donner. “That’s why we went to Nightcrawler on 2 because he looked different than everybody else and he had a great power. So yes, I think we would weave Gambit within our story, [but] it wouldn’t be The Gambit Movie”.

A source told Moviehole that Holloway is “indeed still in the mix to play Gambit…. There’s probably more to the story than Donner’s letting on, because I’m sure it’s a done deal – for something”.

Rumour has it that Holloway was actually asked to possibly appear as Gambit in “X-Men 3”, but had to decline the offer because of his TV commitments.

“Yep. He auditioned. He signed. He was ready for work”, says our source. “They may say that they just didn’t have a use for him in that movie, but the truth is, Lost wouldn’t let him go for the period of time it was going to take to film his part”.

A mutant, Gambit possesses the ability to charge objects, usually his trademark playing cards, with potential energy, causing them to explode. He is also skilled in breaking and entering, the use of a Bo staff and hand-to-hand combat, particularly the French kickboxing martial art Savate.
