PodCast Summary
The gods of all LOST secrets (IE Damon and Carlton) were particularly generous during this weeks official lost podcast (which you can listen to here.)
They closed the book on many mysteries, some which were intended to closed all along but were plagued by poor execution. Ready? Since some may scream spoiler, I’ll tuck this behind the jump…
JAE LEE: He killed himself and was not murdered by anyone else.
CLEMENTINE: Will probably appear again so her role in Sawyer’s life is not over yet
KATE’S CHOICE: She made it, it was Sawyer.
GAY CHARACTERS: There is one out there.
SCOTT or STEVE: Scott is dead, but they can’t remember who played Scott and who played Steve.
TURBINE GUY: Was Gary Troup! Didn’t look a thing like him!
Naturally, there is a lot more and I suggest you give the complete podcast a listen!

I wouldn’t say the Jae Lee one was plagued by poor execution. If you have to spell out the fact that the dude threw himself out the window anymore than it seemingly already was, then the “execution” of the moment would be even worse. Like they said in the podcast, Sun had no motivation to kill him, and we would never see a flashback of Mr. Paik killing him, so that pretty much eliminates all other options.

I listened to the podcast last night myself and I didn’t take away some of those items with the same degree of certainty as stated in the post. First of all, they said that “Kate does love Sawyer”. That doesn’t imply that she has made ‘the choice’ that everybody is waiting to see. The whole point of love triangles is that each party loves the other to some degree. I think she has strong feelings for both men, I’m just not absolutely sure she has ‘chosen’ Sawyer. Some people have theorized that she has actually chosen Jack, since she stayed with Sawyer and subscribed to Jack’s “Live together, Die alone” philosophy in the end.
Regarding the gay character, Carlton and Damon implied that there ‘might’ be somebody gay somewhere in the cast. Based on the fact that the show prides itself on having a varied ethnic, religious, socio-political cast of characters, I would put money on them having somebody come out of the closet at some point, but again, this teaser could have just been misdirection.

i listened to the podcast: the question if kate loves sawyer? yes.
and damon says : “she says” she loves him (when pickett hit sawyer).
i think it’s maybe to considerate. perhaps damon says that a little ironically. the podcast doesn’t really reveal some informations.
carlton and damon seem have more fun than really want reveal spoilers.
(sorry for my english)

Having listened to the podcast twice now, I have to say you’re jumping to quite a conclusion saying that Kate has made her choice. Carlton (who has always sided with Kate/Sawyer) was answering a fan question that was phrased simply “Does Kate love Sawyer?” They chuckled, and Carlton said, “Yes” very matter of factly. It is certainly possibly that she will choose Sawyer, but this podcast doesn’t claim that. At most, Carlton is continuing to place himself in that camp and it’s quite possible they just thought the quesiton so straightforward and funny that they answered it in kind. After all, does Kate love Sawyer? Yes! Obviously! But is this her choice? Does she love him more than Jack? I didn’t get that answer from this podcast at all. Damon even let off an pro-Jack comment right after Carlton said his piece!

I too, didn’t think it was poor execution on thier part re: Jae’s death. More so it’s the fans that widly speculate these things. In the world of LOST if it’s not explained completely, the fans will fill in the blanks.
Some thing happened when Shannon got shot. All the Tivo’s said it looked like a knife wound or it was someone off to the side with a shotgun etc. WHen it was Ana shooting her in the stomach. People took the direction of a simple camera shot out of context.

The gay character is Tom. I mean when Kate said she wasnt gunna shower in front of him, and he laughed and said “Relax, you’re not exactly my type.”, it pretty much screamed gay to me.
Comment by Kunjin — October 31, 2006 @ 9:10 pm
Also the “choice” was poorly executed… but with everyone who initially spilled that a choice would even be made saying it is over, and now Damon confirming it (however sarcastic he may have sounded) it is time to let go. She chooses sawyer.
Comment by DocArzt — October 31, 2006 @ 9:12 pm
As a gay man, I have to ‘fess up that the whole notion that there just has to be a gay on the cast in order to be diverse to be a load. Just because we’re 10% of the population [according to Kinsey. YMMV] doesn’t mean that one out of every ten people standing somewhere is gay. Otherwise every gay bar in America would have to be 90% full of straight men. Grrr. Sorry. Had to vent.
I do think the gay one is Tom though. I’ve also got hunches about Boone. The comment Shannon made about Locke being his new boyfriend didn’t evoke the typical straight-boy reaction out of him. But it’s a pretty moot point now.

Good for you, DocArzt! Leave your post as it is … Kate loves Sawyer, end of story.

Like it or not, Kate has chosen Sawyer. Time to accept and move on.
Comment by rodride — October 31, 2006 @ 10:54 pm
I TRuly hope Kate has chosen Sawyer. They are kindred spirits who obviously are in love and should have that love truly realized.

Uh, I think you were a bit too liberal in your “Podcast Confirmations”. Kate’s choice and the gay thing were both quite ambiguous. They sure as hell sounded like typical Damon and Carlton joke style to me. The Scott or Steve was clearly a joke. Did you believe that they really killed one of the actors too? Be careful posting opinion under the guise of news.
Comment by WER — November 1, 2006 @ 2:39 am
Kate’s choice and the gay thing could be interpreted as ambiguous, I’ll give you that.
The Scott and Steve one, however, was not. Obviously they didn’t give one of the actors a rock and tell him to kill the other one, but I do believe that they don’t actually know which one played Scott and which one played Steve.
Comment by Turtle Power — November 1, 2006 @ 2:56 am
Maybe Kate got those marks on her wrists in 3.1 because they made her chose which one of the captured men she would spend her time in captivity with. Maybe she did “chose” Sawyer instead of Jack. After all, the flashbacks in the episode were about a woman chosing another man over Jack.
Comment by Kia — November 1, 2006 @ 3:00 am
I’m seriously getting tired of these games saying Kate loves Sawyer. She does not love him. Kate is in love with Jack, and we’re about to see that.
Comment by Crystal — November 1, 2006 @ 2:17 pm
Truthfully … I don’t care who Kate loves! It could be Hurley for all I care! I can’t begin to see how her relationship on the island with either Jack or Sawyer has ANY relevance to the Others or Dharma.
Can we PLEASE move on. A relationship like this is only going to hurt the show.
Comment by G — November 1, 2006 @ 4:42 pm
Kate loves Sawyer, Tom is gay, Jae Lee didn’t get pushed. Great. That explains everything. Lost is great, but lets let Lost tell the story and we can just sit back and love it.

And the thing with Clementine was a joke.
BUT … if this infant (not revealed until Season 3) has something to do with the show, I’m done.
Comment by G — November 1, 2006 @ 4:49 pm
Poor execution indeed.
What possible reason would Jae have for killing himself? Sure Jin beat the crap out of him but he gave him a chance to live. You can’t tell me that he would kill himself that quickly over a girl. Sorry, don’t buy it. However, if Jin’s shadow (just like he had before with the politician guy he beat up) came to finish the job and got Jae to jump to make it look like a suicide. I would buy that.
And Kate-Sawyer-Jack? I could give two craps about.
Comment by Akbar Fazil — November 1, 2006 @ 5:00 pm
Jae Lee killed himself - the pearl necklace made that plain.
Comment by QuantumSam — November 1, 2006 @ 5:17 pm
Why do people analyze the “rationale” behind Jae Lee killing himself so frakkin’ much? How often do the *regular* characters on the show make decisions that make no sense whatsoever? He had the pearls in his hand, and in no conceivable context will a new flashback reveal that a “shadow” came and pushed Jae out the window for Jin. It’d overlap with episode 2 too much, and it’s be completely pointless. Stop trying to justify your crackpot theories.
Comment by Turtle Power — November 1, 2006 @ 7:11 pm
Turtle Power,
Why do you feel the need to analyze my thoughts on the storyline?
Feeling superior much?
Comment by Akbar Fazil — November 1, 2006 @ 7:35 pm
i think kate should choose jack, sawyer is to sexy to be setteled with one girl. hes a player. its interesting to see who he will bed next? beside jack an kate have had chemistry from the start

I think they have mad some bad moves this season
Killing Mr. Ecko is their perogative but since his character was so well developed, deep and had a rich, complex story, could his death have at least meant something. He better be in a coma. That was disappointing. The guy with the patch doesn’t look like glass eye in the orientation tapes. The Kate story is getting tired, they are evolving her into a shallow character when she started out with such a rich storyline. Sun’s dad pushed Jae, he knew Jin was not a killer. I am very, very, very disappointed that a writer would take the time to develop characters so well then throw it all away by not being true to who the characters are and how they came to be this way as well as where they still had to go growth-wise. Mr. Ecko’s ending is enough to make me consider ‘getting lost’ now while I still have good, interesting memories of the show. What they had him say at the end was stupid. C’mon he didn’t speak for two days after he had to kill the two night raiders the first night on the island. In every, every flashback he has not killed or taken it lightly. He had come closer to God and had understood all along that God knows/knew what was in his heart and that God forgives. He had realized that smoke boy was not really acting like his brother - why? how? because all people, real or fiction have characteristics and stay true to them. The more that smoke Yemi kept talking He began to see and by the end KNEW that it was not acting or talking like his brother. The writers need to remember that all things, real or imagined have patterns of behavior that usually tend to evolve.

I listened to the podcast for the first time for the “Cost of Living” episode. These two guys are absolutely horrible. They are very condescending to the viewers, by saying things like “let’s answer her question because she posted 327 times in 9 days”. It’s hard to believe these guys are the Executive Producers of this show. I got no inofrmative answers fron the 27 minutes of my life I wasted listening to them. They are so measured with their answers because they are afraid of giving up an ounce of info or saying the incorrect thing. Everything is stated as more of a question than an actual definitive statement.
