JJ Abrams Reveals LOST’s Mini-Season Cliff Hanger
Sorta… here’s the deal: JJ, MTV, inevitably the questions return to LOST, they ask him about the big moment everybody is waiting for at the end of the mini-season and he reveals… well, a little more than I thought he would. Let’s put it this way, the NATURE of the cliff-hanger is here… and the scope is, for me, much smaller than I expected… am I going to keep you guessing? Jump trough to the other-side to read JJ’s words…
There’s absolutely a cliffhanger. It’s a very emotional one and the cliffhanger ended up working out perfectly for the end of this episode. It’s a great moment about a character that we care about. I think the story is fantastic.
Few things we can bank on… it’s a Kate episode. There for, working out well for the end of this particular episode tells us that i has something to with Kate; Kate’s flashback is about her mysterious marriage.
It is interesting, also, that he chose the word "emotional". This may be more of an information reveal from left field then a sudden surreal happening. Something that will challenge us emotionally. In particular, perhaps an off island connection we never considered?

Kate and Jack are brother and sister. Just like Luke and Princess Leia in Star Wars. Sawyer is just like Han Solo. So something is going to happen to Sawyer, just like when Han Solo was frozen in the stuff in Star Wars.

How do we know this is a Kate episode? I thought the next episode was supposed to be about Kate, whereas the sixth episode is someone else.

Interesting. This reminds me of commentor Mike on DarkUFO’s site who suggested that perhaps Kevin (Kate’s groom?) was with the Others. I also seem to recall reading that Nathan Fillion (Kevin) was cast for more than just this episode, but my memory is fuzzy (anyone else remember this?). Could it be that Mike is right and this will be revealed to Kate as the cliffhanger? Is that the reason Kate was brought to the Others, like Jack was brought [speculation at this point] to save Ben?

Makes sense if Kate had some connection to the others. GASP maybe she is one of them. Maybe the whole dress thing is something to do with her being an other. That would cause us to shout like the spoiler said. I have a nasty dirty feeling that Kate is an other and is doing the No Pants Dance with Ben. sorry for the pun i needed the joke

Update to my previous post, I found a reference on Spoilerfix that says Nathan Fillion was cast for at least 2 episodes:
“10/05 - Sources confirm to me that Nathan Fillion (Buffy, Firefly) has been cast on Lost! He starts filming the show next week in Hawaii, and will guest star in at least two episodes this season, from what I hear. He will be playing someone from Kate’s past. Someone who was VERY close to our beloved Katie — as in, legally bound and not genetically. Source: Kristin on E!Online”
So I think that is a key piece of info. It is possible that he could appear in future Kate flashbacks, but I think it may be a clue that he is actually on the island.

A smaller, intimate story? If it’s done well there’s nothing wrong with this.* I like good characterization on Lost, and the only reason we expected something bigger that scooper made it sound epic. It could still be a great episode.
*the one exception where there is something wrong with this is if the cliffhanger is Kate choosing whether she loves Sawyer or Jack. I. Don’t. Care.
