ABC Plays the Death Card, Again, and other loose lips at ABC

Lost News — October 30, 2006 at 12:45 am by docarzt

Since this whole post is about spoilery items, it will be hidden behind the fold.  But be aware that all of these spoilers come from LOST and ABC staff.

It must be frustrating to be a LOST writer/producer.  ABC marketing has again treated the death of a major character as a marketing angle for next weeks episode "The Cost of Living".  I find this decidedly stupid on the behalf of ABC marketing;  for starters,  it makes the fact that a character is going to die seem more and more like a built in marketing ploy for the show instead of the mark of realism that it is.  From the perspective of the writers/producers,  I’m sure, like any spoiler, it is just frustrating to see something that you hoped would be shocking and surprising be so foreshadowed.  Furthermore, as this promo (with thanks to DarkUFO), will show you, what exactly is expected of Jack by the others is revealed:  it truly is Ben who has the spinal tumor.  This, of course, explains nothing about why Sawyer and Kate are there, let alone the numerous tailies that were kidnapped but never shown.  Of course, it is very likely that tumor does not belong to Ben at all,  and the whole set up is a red erring.

In other news of loose lips at ABC, although considerably less loose… Gregg Nations imparted this tidbit concerning the big "Close" to the mini-season which is supposed to leave us all speechless:

But for your first post I’ll add something new: get ready to scream out loud due to _____ (fill in the blank) at the end of episode six when that final "boom" sounds, we smash to black and "Lost" comes up on screen. It’s everything a cliff-hanger is supposed to be and more.

Okay, so it’s not really very revealing… about the blank… is Gregg talking about a particular emotional reaction?  Scream out loud due to shock? Scream out loud due to delight?  Scream out loud due to disappointment? Let’s hope not the last one!
