Jump The Shark Moment - It’s all about the island
Several hundred people showed up at the Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival for a "Lost" seminar in the Regal Dole Cannery Theaters. Amongst the guests were Jorge Garcia, Henry Ian Cusick, and Michael Emerson. Michael Emerson made some statements about the island that may indicate what is to come in the "Jump the Shark" moment.
A key element that triggered much analysis was the island, which "looms large as a character on the show," said Emerson, who hinted at a metaphysical quality, and the possibility that the entire location is fabricated
So is Emerson theorizing outloud or is he speaking from the experience of having already filmed the episode which is to totally twist our perception of what is goin on? Maybe the message that Locke finds in "I Do" is the words "Made in Tawain" inscribed on a cliff face.
.

For me the island being fake would ruin the show. It ruins all mysticism about LOST. The island is real.
P.S. Whatever Desmond is making during the next episode will be used at the very end. Once again showing the precognition he has.

Jumping the Shark:
-The Prisoner scenario
-Anything remotely related to The Matrix
-It’s all a dream
-The Island of Dr. Moreau social/genetic experiment
-Truman Show / Reality TV scenario
-Locke actually jumping over a shark, tearing off its fin, and beating it to death.
…naw, that would be cool.

I think that the ISLAND is alive.

If there is any mention of Gaia on episode six, the show will officially jump the shark.

“Jump the shark” You keep using that phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means. (2 brownie points for whoever gets the movie reference)

Jump the shark…. Fonzie… water skis… THE HORROR!
Um… I suspect Gaia is pretty darn close to the central issue of the story… for me, though, the central concept isn’t going to dissapoint or satisfy, it’s going to be how the story is told. It could be the ghosts of a million mice and still be the best story ever told if they handle it appropriately.

I agree with the post above if the island is fake then the mysticism would be gone and the show wouldn’t be the same. It wouldn’t explain how the island got it’s mysterious powers so i don’t think it would be true anyway. I also don’t think it would be a reality T.V. show or else Penny Widmore would know where Desmond was. And if Dharma dates back to the 1970’s then the losties would probably know about it. If it was a dream I would never watch T.V. again after all the time I spent in Lost. I hope it is something original. I like Lost because it’s not just one form of T.V. genre. It’s mystery, drama, sci-fi, horror, supernatural, action-adventure and sometimes comedy. I that hope when they finally reveal all the mysteries of the island they use this fact to make something we have never seen before.

TrilliaM, you only quoted the best movie ever made. The Princess Bride. Said by Victor Montoya to Vizzini.

I cringe at how many times over the last 3 seasons I have seen posts about Lost “Jumping the Shark”. There’s even a website where people vote on it.
Have some faith, or ye might lose your own ability to walk!
It would be cool if when Sawyer looks out over the mountaintop he see’s himself in the distance. Trippy!
**Collects brownie points for “Princess Bride” knowledge**

Everytime someone uses the term “Jumping the Shark” it confuses me because as hopefully most people know it was used when Happy Days went on longer than it should have and I don’t think LOST is anywhere near going on longer than it should. We should have at least 3 more seasons after this one and I bet the writers and producers will end it at the right time and not beat a dead horse like Happy Days and so many other shows have done.

I seriously dont think it’s the “reality TV show theory”. People have died remember. Oh yeah! Boone, Shannon, Ana Lucia, Libby, passengers from the crash, etc. etc. Ana Lucia was a police officer! Hello! Um i don’t think that it’s being recorded and broadcast live for the world to see um because that would never be allowed. ever. We watch it because it’s fiction. Enterainment. If it’s even anything remotely close to that sorta theory then i personally will start riots & will burn ABC to the ground.
The island is real. Duh. C’mon.
Everything shown to us, both on tv as well as the internet has all centralized around key components. such as:
–Every character is somehow connected to one another and haven’t begun to figure this out. The flashbacks prove that everyone is linked to someone one way or another and that might be true for the’others’ as well. Ok so what if there is an iland and the others are doing god only knows what… Why did that plane, carrying all those people, whos lives are in some way connected, CRASH on that island!?
–The end of the world/humanity causes itself to end. Remeber those uh.. numbers!? hello! the hatches!? the BUTTON!? The crazy french lady who has been there for 16 years!!!!
–Science vs Fate. Do they have control over thr lives or does everything happen for a reason. I believe that this show, at it’s core, asks the viewer to ask him/herself which do u believe. To me it just seems like this is a consistent subject the show presents.
–has everyone forgotten what Fenry told Jack? Duh! He showed him the Red Sox game where they broke the curse and blabbed all this info about the world since the plane crash. The outside world exists still and can be returned to. The idea that the island is fake is just lame and it’s just not a good story to me. i mean really, who cares if it turns out to be some retarded lab experiement. wow. what a waste of everyones time. who cares. lames.
Also they know better than to whip out the old ‘it was just a dream’ card. They dont want the phrase “COLOSSAL FAILURE” to be the end result with LOST. Im have no doubt that it would be, if that pans out to be the truth.
Like the movies Boxing Helena or Vanilla Sky. It’s been done bofore. Let it die.
i personally think its gonna be something completely new & never done before. this show has a way of doing those kinda things and our jaws all hurt the next morning from hitting the floor so hard. No one coulda guessed the story as we have seen it thus far. I think it’s not going to start being predictable and mediocre now.
We should stop trying to guess whats gonna happen and start listening to the story they tell.

I couldn’t agree more with the above comment from scott!
Although I didn’t get too much involved in the LostExperience, I believe there are hints in there, that point to a very intruiging
storyline for Lost. There have been many lessons being learnt throughout the years, from the fate of shows of this genre.
I believe JJ.Abrams when he says that there is a complete, solid storyline with beginning and end. I also understand the pressures of network TV on the creative process. At the same time, there are many fans of the show with a strong, vivid imagination and good analytical skills who might end up being dissatisfied with almost, any ending of the show.I’d say Trust The Authors! Stop worrying about the destination and enjoy the RIDE, because it’s ONE HELL OF A RIDE! I tottaly agree with Stephen King when he urged the production team to be alert of when to pull down the curtains. But until then, I suggest we sit back and ENJOY. HEll, I’ve stopped reading spoillers! I guess you can say I still love the mystery of the unopened christmas gifts. I think its too soon to start the “Jump the Shark” specullations!
Quite irrelevant note: the whole discussion above brings to mind the season 9 Xfiles episode right before the series
finale, entitled “Jump the Shark”, featuring a very touching performance by Michael Emerson who happens to materialise the whole set and characters of his favourite TV show at will, to keep him company! One of my favourite Michael Emerson moments!

If the Island is fake, means everything on the Island is fake, would just be weird. Its real, its all bloody real my friend. And the jump tha shark moment is going to be something really great, because lost so far has been really great, and they wouldnt ruin it. =) I cant wait to se the eppy tomorrow.

Jimmy Kimmel mentioned on his show several months ago…if not a year ago by now…his theory that Lost is a Truman-Show, Big-Brother reality show.
