Lot’s of cool "little" things and a few interesting items! Want to know approximately when Locke’s flashback took place? What’s on the Jesus stick? Where vision-Kate and vision-Sawyer were flying too? Maybe a few more things? Find out after the jump.

"Lift your eyes and look north" part of Genesis 13:14 which refers to the populating of the land with people! Also, didn’t Michael say the others were in the north? (Or was that their fake camp?) Close to the sisal you can also also see that Mr. Eko has etched in the numbers, 4 8 15 16 23 42.
Page one and two of Locke’s gun manifest. You cannot see it here (I’ll nab it later) but the Date of Birth is NOT the same as Terry O’Quinn’s.
The vision features many cameos. Charlie, Claire, and Aaron, presumably as a family.
Sun, Jin, and Sayid as travelers.
Hurley as a Ticket clerk.
Desmond as a pilot with three lovely flight attendents in tow.
Gannon car rentals! I knew it all along (I didn’t reall so thanks to those in the comments for pointing this out)

The hatch basically got sucked down to a pin point. Pretty odd.
In the polar bear cave, Locke finds a childs toy dump truck.
Curious when Locke’s flashback takes place?
According to Jan they got him "fresh out of the academy", the date of service on his paperwork is 6/12/94. So Locke’s flashback takes place about ten years before the crash.
Amongst the dead in the polar bears cave is one of the "pearl" station workers.

The Kate and Sawyer brochure picture.
The brochure says “Gannon Car Rentals”.
As far as I can tell it isn’t a real brochure.

That scene at the airport was some MAJOR foreshadowing… or at least giving a good idea of what’s happening now.
Desmond- off, alone, doing whatever he feels like. In the episode he clearly doesn’t feel the urge to help Jack, Kate, and Sawyer.
Charlie/Claire/Aaron- they’re obviously happy together.
Kate/Sawyer- Considering the rumors before Season 3 where KAte would coose Sawyer, and the fact that the preview for ep 4 features Jack asking Kate if she loves Sawyer… this one is pretty spot on. (I THINK it’s Jack yelling that to Kate…)
Jack/Ben- I think Ben’s gonna have Jack on the other’s side. Ben’s inspecting him, making sure he’s free to go. Or in this case, free to be hired.. for the Others.
Hurley- the only guy who knows the general location of where the Others are, and faced with a threat never to reveal it or go back again. that being said, he’s perfect as a ticket clerk, he gives you permission to fly or he can turn you away.

I say it was Jack in the preview yelling “DO YOU LOVE HIM!?” because while it appears BEn is beating the crap out of Sawyer, Ben’s voice isn’t that deep, is it?

The flashback was most definitely not ten years before the crash. Based on evidence from previous episodes the flashback likely takes place about five or six years before the crash.

I definitely see your point. There seems to be a continuity error somewhere. Locke’s mother was admitted to to the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute in 1995, according to the episode “Deux Ex Machina” (1×19). Since we know the flashbacks of “Further Instructions” take place after those of “Deux Ex Machina”, “Orientation” and “Lockdown”, they have to take place after 1995.
Discounting this as a continuity error, there is something else that is inarguable: Nadia left Iraq in 1997; this is a fact. Therefore, the events of “Lockdown” must have taken place in or after 1997.
Thus I propose that the service date in question is a flaw in continuity.

On Locke’s permit papers, the year 2009 appears. Is this an expiration date of some sort regarding use of the guns? If so, does anyone know how long gun permits last?

Not really anything important, but a nice little ‘easter egg’.
Following on from Season 1’s reference to ‘The Office’, Further Instructions appeared to reference Lord Of The Rings, when Charlie (Merry in Lord Of The Rings) said that he’s heard that trees are excellent conversationalists. Of course Merry spent much of The Two Towers talking to the Ents - talking trees.

First time actually posting a comment on one of the Lost threads. Just thought I’d point out something I noticed. Everyone seems pretty date-excited and - as a result - confused about Officer Colburn’s “service” date. When they say they got him fresh out of the academy, that doesn’t mean this is his first actual assignment. He may have been working with them on tracking down this drug bust for some time, - on top of which - “straight out of [police] academy” doesn’t figure in any time for undercover training he may have gotten.
And Locke’s registration - seen in the easter eggs section at http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/6380/3581/1600/firearmlicense.jpg - has his truck registration (the paper under his license) STARTING in 1997. Which would give Officer Colburn about three years to get trained and end up at the side of the road, and Locke’s parents a year or two to treat him like polar bear droppings.

Well as someone with some experience in the service, if he went to an academy, then the service date is when he entered the academy. Depending on how long the police academy was or if they were referring to a military academy (which is 4 years) he might have gone to, that may explain the dates, putting his graduation at 1998.

Even better! Amazing what some expertise can do. My only knowledge of the whole “service date” thing is that I have a friend who completed the academy training in California a year ago but he still hasn’t been hired on by an actual force yet… :-/
