LOST S03e01 Easter Egg Roundup UPDATED
Some of you have said, DOC!? Where are the easter eggs from the premiere?? Frankly, they’ve been covered pretty heavily elsewhere so I kinda held back, but here are a few. There is a new Dharma logo which I will have for you shortly, but in case you missed them… (click to enlarge the pics)
Even though the song that played was "Downtown" the cd case was "Talking Heads Speaking in tongues". The CD itself was "Okemah And The Melody Of Riot" by Son Volt (thanks to Michael for looking that catalog number up).
The book they were arguing over… Stephen King’s Carrie.
Finally, Jack’s crossword puzzle and beeper. The numbers on the pager correlate with some words on interest on the crossword…. check it out!

I wondered the same thing, but the actress is not credited. Of course, that might not mean anything.
Comment by DocArzt — October 6, 2006 @ 8:55 pm
What are the words on the crossword that match the beeper???? Because i can’t see the crossword numbers
Comment by Dude — October 6, 2006 @ 10:43 pm
Cool! My name is one of the answers! Now I can say I was in the season opener of LOST!!!! (or at least my name was)

Well i belive that in the second season when the shark is atacking sayer they show the bottom and you can see the new dharma symbol on the belly near the tail of the shark if you look fast enough.
Comment by ryan — October 7, 2006 @ 2:28 am
Hmmm…not sure I’m picking up on the connection between the display on the pager (”7:15:22 AM”) and the crossword, although the puzzle seems to have a lot more medical-related words in there than your average crossword. Googling around on “7:15:22″ we come up with a few links to some Book of Wisdom passages, which you can read here:
http://bible.oremus.org/?passage=Wisdom+7:15-22
I’m not a Bible scholar…I didn’t even realize that there was a “Wisdom” book in there. One line: “I learned what is both secret and what is manifest.” Am I getting warm here, or am I just reading in a connection where there is really none?
Comment by Yen — October 7, 2006 @ 2:29 am
Some of the words in the crossword puzzle:
Heroes
Prenatal
Vital Statistics
Necessary Evil
Raft
Sit
Area
Ella
Poe
Boon
I can only make out a few from the bottom corner that says answers to previous puzzle- I see:
All Here
Assasin
Lenient
Hit
Shoes
Satisfy
Comment by Lizz — October 7, 2006 @ 2:49 am
I am also confused as to how the crossword links up with the pager. The photo is somewhat blurry so I can’t match the words to the numbers visually.
Comment by Bunny Suction — October 7, 2006 @ 4:27 am
Anybody else make a connection when Sawyer got the cage puzzle right that they said “the bears” figured it out in 2 hours. Someone else thought the sharks had dharma on them. What about the polar bears rampaging the island.
Comment by EdricoSuave — October 7, 2006 @ 5:49 am
If you look at the PREVIOUS puzzle’s answers… 7 down is SENTINEL. 15 across is ALLHERE. 22 across is ASTA. You can’t see the numbers, you just have to know how crosswords are numbered.
Comment by Will Clarke — October 7, 2006 @ 12:30 pm
You just figured out that the polar bears are part of Dharma???? Polar Bears were featured in one of the orientation videos. I think in the first episode of the second season. Come on RicoSuave!!!!!!
Comment by 3rd — October 7, 2006 @ 8:23 pm
The cage Sawyer is in is a “skinner” box. A well known Pshycologist who did research on behavior trough rewards and punishment. this way the researchers could predict behavior. the main thing about this is that this school of pshycology is called behviorism, and they belive that all creatures indcluding man is born as a “tabula rasa” wich mean blank slate and so on. its a research facility and there are numerous referenses to psychology in lost, the pearl is also a well known experiment….
Comment by bender — October 7, 2006 @ 8:46 pm
Just because the Hydra symbol appears on a pipe near Sawyer’s cage doesn’t mean the Others are lying that Jack is underwater. The Hydra station is the DHARMA Zoological Research Facility - it covers research into the polar bears, the sharks, dolphins and likely enough the “Hurley” bird. Just as with zoological stations in the “real world” it can have facilities above *and* below ground. When Sawyer attempted to escape we saw aviaries, other cages… the site was very large. It is close to the shore as Kate showered inside the main Hydra research building (seen from Sawyer’s cage) before being taken along a short path to the beach. It’s likely then that a series of tunnels lead from the main research building towards a series of aquaria connected to the ocean, which would be underwater. The Others weren’t lying… It’s pretty clear if you pay attention
Comment by ian Abbott — October 8, 2006 @ 1:17 am
Just to clarify my last statement, it’s much more likely that the aquatic research section is at and below sea-level if only to allow the sharks/dolphins access to/from the ocean.
Of course, why on Earth any aquarium would have a watertight door that opens into an area of open water is very, very strange indeed. Maybe he is above water and the flooding was supplied by the pipe but I reckon that one of the aquaria became damaged after DHARMA fell into disrepair? Look at how decayed the rest of the zoo is…
Comment by Ian Abbott — October 8, 2006 @ 1:27 am
For the record.. the lying thing was (I also indicated that it could be that Sawyer is near the shore.) Actually the fact that it was Juliet that zapped Sawyer pretty much guarantees that the station is located at the shore. The name of the station, hydra, could also indicate that it is a huge base with five substations…
Comment by DocArzt — October 8, 2006 @ 2:40 am
you guys all really go too far into this, i like lost but please just watch the show… i know what your thinking, why am i on here if only to complain? i wanna get a peak at next weeks stuff, not hear people with no friends ramble about a television show
Comment by Davaldo — October 8, 2006 @ 3:53 am
Remember that the drugs used on Jack could cause hallucinations. The sandwich he was served shortly after opening the door looked pretty dry to me.
Comment by Podaddy — October 8, 2006 @ 4:14 am
Actually, what I was thinking Davaldo was ‘troll alert’
Comment by DocArzt — October 8, 2006 @ 2:03 pm
in all fairnessm Davaldo you chose to read the comments so why comment and be a boob? No need for the insults, mate. (hurry, someone back me up!)
Comment by jimmy12345 — October 8, 2006 @ 5:24 pm
I agree with ian abbot jack and juilet were under water because Jack (idiot) opened up the water hatch.
Comment by Tom Paterson — October 8, 2006 @ 8:58 pm
Come on, that’s gotta be fake. Nothing is EVER what it seems.
Comment by r0se — October 9, 2006 @ 12:13 am
that doesnt mean anything it doesnt neccessarily suggest there underwater, it could have been an aquarium or anything, but I guess it would be save to say that it could be underwater….most definitly
Comment by Colby — October 9, 2006 @ 1:52 am
The paper appears to be a real NY Times from July of this year… google the bridge (cards) text and you can find a NY times link for the exact collumn…. the rest is likely from the same real newspaper…

Why is the “TV 14″ badge upside down in the pager pic????
Comment by Marc — October 9, 2006 @ 12:47 pm
its upside down because they switched it so you could read the crossword puzzle easier.
Comment by Ben — October 9, 2006 @ 4:46 pm
If Jack is in an aquarium, why is there an intercom in it?
I got the impression from Juliet that it hadn’t worked in a VERY long time. Let’s say the DI research was in the 40s-50s (seems like the very earliest possible time for the level of technology displayed) and the sharks were studied for a minimum of 10 years…eventually after that someone added an intercom to the room. A lot of time has passed. So I’m wondering, why the Others are so young. Second generation or just other crash victims that have stumbled upon the place?
Comment by lgwacbb — October 9, 2006 @ 5:53 pm
Very nice work! I went back and viewed the first few mintutes to confirm the book. You are correct, but oddly, each person had a book that looked different. The only clear cover was the one you clipped. A friend blogs at: LostExposed.com in a Clues Blog.
Comment by LostOne — October 9, 2006 @ 7:57 pm
Maybe the researcher’s never aged!
Comment by Leon — October 11, 2006 @ 2:42 am
I noticed all the books looked different, too but there have been several editions of Carrie..all with different covers.
Of course, the club could have been shot all with different King books, as a kind of “shout out” seeing as he’s such a fan.
Thought it was interesting as well that all three (Jack, Kate, Sawyer) were all “broken” in one way or another in order to survive (to be fed) based on their individual weaknesses.
Jack, most obviously, had to “let it go” before he was fed and abandon his mistrust and stubborness (kudos to Juliet for the evening’s best line ‘I don’t think you’re stupid, Jack. I think you’re stubborn.’)
Sawyer in his cage had to rely soley on his wits and not the gullibility or weakness of another before getting his meal.
Kate, had to be completely vulnerable having her clothes taken away and even putting herself back into manacles befor being able to eat.
This makes me wonder, how long have the others been watching them?
Comment by Fatbasket — October 11, 2006 @ 4:10 pm
In order to read the crossword clearly just double click on the crossword and then click on full screen….I had no trouble reading the words. the ends of a couple where out of the picture…but what I got going down were 7 - requiredco– , 15 Boon 22 Raft
Previous week’s crossword going down 7 - satisfy, 15 ennobled and 22 GNP
Good Luck!
Comment by sookie — October 11, 2006 @ 7:34 pm
The bottle of water Juliet first offers Jack - along with the old cheese sandwich - has the ‘line’ Dharma logo on it (as seen on the shark) rather than the Hydra logo. Are these stations just close, or has one been updated into the other at some point, or … maybe they just share their bottles?
Comment by Jo — October 12, 2006 @ 1:24 am
If you guys watch disc 7 of season 2 it explains a lot about the Shark, Polar Bear, etc. The dharma logo on the shark was actually an easter egg the producers didn’t think anybody would actually see. They said it has nothing to do with the plot.
I can’t wait for tonight’s show!!!
Comment by Shana — October 12, 2006 @ 1:49 am
a friend of mine made this discovery. when we were discussing why they chose the “hydra” as the name of the station, she found this definition.
“3. a persistent or many-sided problem that presents new obstacles as soon as one aspect is solved. or 4. A persistent or multifaceted problem that cannot be eradicated by a single effort.
”
interesting, huh? and yeah - the shark was an easter egg. but at this point, why not throw it into the story line and just make everyone go crazy?
i think that’s a very possible situation. why else would jack say ’sharks’ and not dolphins and/or whales? kinda odd, don’t you think?
Comment by kat — October 12, 2006 @ 3:19 am
“Let’s say the DI research was in the 40s-50s…” All the DI videos we’ve seen so far are dated around the 1980s.
Comment by Azure — October 12, 2006 @ 8:40 am
This is in response to Sookie.. If you look at the crossword questions it is 7 Down.. Then 15 and 22 must be Across because they are not listed in the Down section.
Comment by snoopy — October 12, 2006 @ 6:58 pm
get a life!!!!!! what happens ,happens!!! its just a show….. all be it a great one. the producers know whats happening and draw it out as long as possible so their pockets keep getting fatter! great show and cant wait for series 3 as i own the last two series on dvd but there has to be more to life than living theirs! stop getting so involved and try turning your tv off and doing something that you cant all sit around and predict!
Comment by seth — October 13, 2006 @ 12:51 am
i agree! you can all sit around and predict, its not earning you money though! lets predict now? how bout i predict u will all be unemployed drop outs sponging off the government in 5 years, now thats a fuken prediction! no dharma project here, just losers that wish they to were stranded with hurley and their ’smoke monster’! maybe if you guys actually worked you too could afford a plane flight and hopefully crash and fullfill your ambition. still….. i bet yaz couldnt catch fish like jin

Dont come on these sites if all your gona type is literary diarrhea. My mom mentioned that the others want the boats. Could the Hydra be another island? Maybe that’s why Ben was so concerned about the sailboat.
Comment by mike — October 14, 2006 @ 4:34 am
There is no such thing as the Book of Wisdom in the bible, I don’t know what that want comment was talking about. There’s the book of Proverbs which is all about wisdom and knowledge, but it ain’t called the Book of Wisdom, and that quote isn’t from Proverbs.
Comment by Nat — October 17, 2006 @ 5:55 am
The room Jack is in appears to be an operating room. I would venture to guess that this part of the station can be intentionally flooded and drained as needed to perform operations on water-borne animals.
Divers in wetsuits and scuba gear could very well go in and out that door Jack opened if the facility were already flooded and the pressure equalized.
That part could sit below sea-level, perhaps even underneath that big building right near the cages Sawyer and Kate are in. Or, as some suggest, it could be a multi-part facility focusing on all multiple aspects of animal research with tunnels connecting. Would allow Juliet to get from place to place quickly.
I’m waiting to see people driving around in golf carts with the Dharma logo on them, since the island doesn’t seem quite as advanced as Syndrome’s.
Comment by tvjames — October 17, 2006 @ 6:50 am
Hey like the programme i am totally lost there are so many different theories about this island its hard to figure out what is the truth, people have told me its time travel, others say its a dream, others say its an hallucination of one of the characters and then its a reality tv show
Comment by Ciara — October 17, 2006 @ 4:36 pm
i like the idea about jack being in the operating room. its confusing tho because there is a veiwing room, a door taking u to dry and a door bringing in water. which all means it could very well be to view underwater operations… except that damn intercom. theres no way there’d be an intercom in a room full of water.
p.s. i never got a chance to see this mark on the shark, as dark water gives me goosebumps. does anyone have a stillshot that clearly shows this ‘mark’?
as an extra side note. ppl that come in here and insult want to be part of the discussion theyre just too damn stupid to offer any good ideas thats why they have to insult to leave their ‘mark’ in the discussion.
