Hey folks! A lot of emails asking me when the site is going to weigh in on "Live together, Die Alone". I actually have a lengthly recap/article which will post probably around late Monday or Tuesday. I’ve been busy moving into a new house so I haven’t had the time I would like to keep the site updated. The short version though: I just about passed out from the sheer coolness of the finale!! Which brings me to my next point…
I’m absolutely disgusted by the amount of negative outcry over the finale. Everything from the ratings, to the various so-called "Shark Jumping" moments. Let me dispense with one point of view right now, I do not believe in "Jumping the Shark". I think it is ridiculous to think that a show can reach a point so low that it can never recover. I mean, the term itself is derived from an episode of "Happy Days" for crying out loud. Are you going to let "Happy Days" rule your life? Please… think twice before saying "Jumped the shark".
For starters, there have been plenty of weak episodes in the run of LOST in my opinion. I try to think of the show as a series of sprints rather than a marathon. Sure, there is a long running serialized story, as well as relationships to develop, but all in all it is best to deal with a mysterious property like this on an episode by episode basis.
"There aren’t enough answers" or "I don’t like the answers…" arguments carry no weight with me what so ever. There have been a ton of answers this season, and new questions as well. And those of you who think the new questions are a bother should count your blessings, they are what keeps the show on the air. This isn’t a mini-series folks, I dread the day they give the answers because that will be the day the story is over.
But, putting the nay-sayers behind us, I loved the finale! On the most rudimentary level, it says that there will be new layers to the mystery. Heck, folks kvetching about the lack of answers should be thrilled by the biggest answer of them all "Why isn’t anybody looking for them?". We know the answer now. Not only why they aren’t, (because it is futile), but that they are (and just what does Penelope Widmore know?)
Aside from that, what is the "failsafe" and does it mean the end of of Desmond, Locke, and Eko? The hatch door falling from the heavens certainly confirms that something went "up", but did it "blow up" is the question. Seeing as though Desmond, (why was he in prison?), and Locke’s, (why was he paralyzed?), stories aren’t complete, I’m guessing we havent’ seen the last of them, but aren’t you interested as hell to know by what device they may be back?
And sure, the capture of Jack, Kate, and Sawyer is disturbing, but we are finally going to see the inner sanctum of "The Others"! And what about that statue? There were people there before Dharma? That alone is a little bewildering, forget the four toed anatomical discrepancy! I thought all ancient civilations, five toes or otherwise, were accounted for! Apparently, not!
But let’s go back to the layers. Penny and company’s knowledge of the location of the island does not necessarily indicate the end of the show. Remember, this islands location can only be revealed under very rare conditions, and Fenry himself said once you leave there aint no coming back. So is Penny and her posse on a fast track to becoming stranded themselves, and what might those implications add to the grand scheme of things? I can’t tell you for sure, but I know one thing… it’s fricken cool!
So, for now, Doc out.. and look for more next week.
There’s a whole load of info regarding Lost Season Three out there - here’s what we know to be accurate, so far.
Are we going to take this laying down? American Idol Vs. Lost? Ratings, Schmatings.
It’s time to chime in folks, was the finale and the shocking ending a beginning to a whole new obsession; or the swan song for a much loved adventure? What could Lindelof and company possibly have planned for us? Is there anyway possible "the callah" can be explained, or is thus just "The Numbers" 2.0? The season finale brings the season premiere of The TailSection Experience, our much delayed PodCast. How about we kick it off with some of your comments concerning last nights episode? Give us a call at (508) 471-3802 and share your opinion.
Former "LOST" star Ian Somerhalder will have a pivotal role in the new Kristin "Veronica Mars" Bell chiller "Pulse" which is coming in July. Click the picture to visit the official site.
It’s time! The episode that will define season 2 has arrived! Tonight’s finale, "Live Together, Die Alone", will be the punctuation mark for season 2; will it be a period, a question mark, a comma, an ellipses, or the dread semi-colon? No matter what it is, it is here.
The writers, producers, and directors have taken some huge gambles here. There are several payoffs that have to be satisfying, or it impacts the credibility of the whole series up to this point. What happens when the button isn’t pushed? Why did Oceanic 815 crash? What is behind "the door"? Who drew the blast door map? Who edited the orientation films? What will become of Walt and Michael? What will happen when Zeke and Sawyer face off (even though it wasn’t really Zeke that shot sawyer it was one of his minions.)
The good news is, for everyone, that this episode has not been significantly spoiled, and with any kind of luck it won’t be. My position on the finale is that all spoilers should be avoided. Resist the temptation. See how the other half lives for a change. If you have spoilers, keep them to yourself. I don’t share the view that spoilers are detrimental to the success of the show, but the finale is a special moment for the creators. They are on pins and needles to see what our reaction is going to be. Let’s not dilute that feedback by saturating it with knee jerk reactions to what may be inaccurate information.
A night of festivities is planned here. First, you can chat along live with me at www.buddytv.com as we provide our own running commentary for what is sure to be the best episode of LOST so far this season, and perhaps of all time.
