LOST — J.J. to direct STAR TREK

Geeks of the world rejoice!  LOST founder, pilot writer, pilot director, and writer/director of Mission Impossible III J. J. Abrams, along with LOST cohort Damon Lindelof,  will be producing the long awaited "prequel" to the original Star Trek featuring Kirk and Spock at the academy.

I’ve actually had the pleasure of reading a few early drafts of this screenplay which can best be described as Top Gun meets Star Trek, and while some have bitched about the deviation from "Trek" lore  (very action oriented vs discovery and utopian ideals) I was personally enthused to see it get produced.  Now, it is J.J’s motis to tear down and rebuild the script, so I’m sure despite a few elements the finished product will be different from what I read, but just to see Kirk and Spock again is going to be awesome.

The Release date will be around 2008.  No casting is confirmed yet.
