LOST - S02E19 S.O.S (RECAP)

Lost News — April 13, 2006 at 12:22 am by docarzt

LOST s02e19 S.O.S begins with Rose and Bernard organizing the food from the drop.  Bernard is kvetching about how everybody on the fuselage side has given up on getting rescued.

At the hatch, Locke is trying to replicate the diagram.  The counter is beeping, and Locke is genuinely apathetic.

Henry is apparently on hunger strike, he hasn’t eaten anything for two days.  Ana is lounging on the couch looking at a book which appears to be an atlas,  maybe Africa.

Jack pays Henry a visit and tells him he is going to go to the others and try to negotiate a trade for Walt.   Henry,  who has been in stony silence the whole time let’s out an amused sigh and says “They’ll never give you Walt.”

After the credits we land in the Rose / Bernard flashback.  It seems even when they met there was an approximation of wife / husband antagonism as Bernard rescues Rose from a snowdrift.  It is their first meeting, and ends (predictably) in a date.

In present day island Bernard is organizing a group of able bodied men for a mysterious job.  Among them Neil Froggert, who has been mentioned many times in the official podcast.  Froggert is apparently a manufacturer of frozen yogurt.  (Froggert’s Yogurt,  how quant.)

Jake informs Ana of his plan to confront the others.  Ana is skeptical of the plan and insists that he does not go alone.  Jack approaches Kate, who is more than happy to go along.

Bernard, meanwhile, is rallying the survivors to assist in creating a sign.  He is anxious to get back to his life.  Rose butts in and accuses him of trying to give them false hope, emasculating him in front of the group.  There is a visible rift forming between them as Bernard tells her to, basically, get lost.

In flashback we find out that Bernard proposed to Rose after just five months together. It’s a romantic scene, Bernard springs some violinists, and does the whole on his knee thing.   Her response is that she is dying.  She has cancer and has only a year to live.  Bernard is undeterred.  He still wants to marry Rose, and she accepts.

Back on the island, Bernard approaches Charlie and Ecko for help with his sign.  They won’t help, they are too busy building a “church” (There!  It is finally out.)   Bernard throws a tizzy and tells Ecko he liked him better when he was hitting people with his stick!

In the hatch Locke tells Ana he wants to talk with Henry; she responds with her Grrl-fight routine telling Locke no way.  So he talks to him through the door.  He wants to know if Henry was telling the truth when he said he did not enter the numbers.  Inside the vault, Henry is silent, casting a grin so evil Michael Emerson is a lock for best evil guy in a drama at next years Emmy.

Bernard is busy planning his sign,  still looking for help;  his supporters are waning. We learn that the reason why they were in Australia was because Bernard was taking Rose to a faith healer named Isaac Uluru (anagramers get busy).  Something she was none too happy about.

Meanwhile back on the island, Bernard is trying to draft a skeptical Sawyer who says no way Jose.  Rose confronts Bernard over his persistence in creating the S.O.S.  He tells her it is his fault that they crashed on the island,  because he tricked her into going to the faith healer.

Meanwhile, deep in the jungle Kate and Jack fall victim to one of Rousseu’s traps.  Jack winds up getting them out.

Bernard is losing men left and right.  Even Jin won’t stay on, and he can’t even understand what Bernard is saying!

Rose joins Locke on the beach.  Locke says he is done with the hatch.  Locke laments about how long it will be before his leg heals.  Rose says they know it won’t take that long.  They share a look that says they know a little bit about each other.

In flashback land we meet the faith healer.  He begins to work on Rose but has an incident very similar to what happened with Claire’s psychic.  He tells her she can’t be healed there, but there is a place where she can be healed.  He wants to return Bernard’s money.

In the jungle,  Kate tells Jack about the medical station and the make-up kit and costumes.  Jack is pissed that Kate didn’t tell him.  Kate is mad that she is out of the loop.  They are back at the clearing where they met the others.  Jack yells for them, but nobody comes.  He says he will stay there all night until they show up.

Bernard is now all alone on his project, constructing a huge SOS out of volcanic rock.  Rose shows up with some dinner and says she owes him an apology.  She had told Bernard that Isaac had healed her, she now admits it was a lie.  She reveals that she is healed. We flash-back to the Oceanic terminal as she fumbles with some meds.  She tells Bernard that the island healed her, not Isaac.  Bernard questions how she can be sure that it is the island and not Isaac. Then the bomb-shell, we find out that she saw Locke in the wheel-chair.  She knows that he was healed too.  She doesn’t share this with Bernard though.  Bernard understands that they can not leave the island, or the cancer may come back.  He abandons the sign.

In the hatch Ana tells Locke that she pushed his button.  Locke says it isn’t his button.  It is clear he has found a higher faith once again.  He sits down and begins to successfully recreate the diagram.

Montage sequence of the various survivors against a blues background.  Even Vincent appears, getting a scrap and a pat on the head from a rather lonely looking Sawyer.

Jack and Kate sit in the jungle.  Kate says she is sorry that she kissed Jack.  Jack says, he isn’t sorry.  She gives him a pensive look.   Before we can pursue this though, they are disturbed by heavy breathing and a torch moving towards them through the jungle.  It is Michael.
