How I spent my Lost vacation

Lost News — November 3, 2005 at 7:53 am by docarzt

We are now officially down to less than one week until new episodes resume, my quest for HDTV service has not stimulated any progress, the LOST scene is frothing at the mouth, and Lindelof and crew have managed to keep most of the LOST spoiler sources quiet. What kind of cookies they are passing out, I don’t know, but suffice to say us wee folk in the ever growing “LOST” fansite community didn’t get any. (Where’s my set visit Lindelof? Sheesh!)

I’ve used some of my free time to launch a few sites related to other ABC shows I love, Invasion and Night Stalker; discovered for the first time two of, IMO, the best commodities in the LOST fansite community: The Transmission a LOST podcast, and the LOST video island a fanfilm archive; watched a bunch of LOST on DVD; actually watched VERONICA MARS, (great show, the second best on television!), in its regular time slot, instead of after LOST; and wrote a fan-script for LOST. Yeah, a fanscript for LOST. My intent was to release it serialized but guess what, I procrastinated too long and now it would not be worth the effort to finish it. (My goal was to fill the down-time a little, now that the down time is coming to an end, no need to fill it.)

For your amusement, here is the synopsis:

Episode Title — Initiation (It’s kind of a sequel to orientation)

The Flashbacks: The flashback story is of Locke as a child at the time when he was participating in the weebelos. I’ll go over it from beginning to end, it’s broken into pieces in the full script. You might think, oh now we get some insight to Locke’s abilities, but we don’t. Young Locke is a very poor cubscout — Can’t even tie a not — And spends most of his time avoiding the group. Even the adults make no effort to make Locke feel accepted, as he pretty much complicates everything with his incompetence. He mostly just has his nose in a book all the time. A small contingent of the kids decide to take it upon themselves to lure young Locke into the woods, Locke follows and winds up tied up while the kids taunt him over the books he is reading (In search of the castaways by Jules Verne, and Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe.) The kids taunt him about his fantasies of survival, he can’t even tie a knot after all. Locke responds with his patented “Don’t tell me what I can’t do…” which he yells over and over as the kids burn his books and leave him struggling. The idea with the flashback is to give you the notion that Locke’s child hood fantasy has manifested itself, but how? Perhaps he never had any skills at all before the island.

The Island Story: Sayid discovers part of a map amongst the books in the Hatch. The map seems to pinpoint the location of the radio tower which is transmitting the frenchwomans transmission. Realizing that Locke could be a threat to an expedition to the tower, Sayid carefully informs Jack about his discovery, and reveals Locke’s role in foiling the prior attempt to locate the tower. Charlie is instructed to keep an eye on Locke and to distract any attempt by Locke to follow them. When Locke finds the rest of the map with the missing area designated, Charlie’s loyalty to Locke overwhelms him and they depart on a secondary expedition to find the tower. Sayid and Jack meanwhile have an unpleasant run in with a flock of the smoke-sprites from exodus. They wind up being driven to the site of the radio tower which turns out to be a massive ancient looking radio telescope. (Like Aricebo big.) They debate why such a massive antenna could not get a signal out, but before they can learn the answer they are beset with gunfire. Somewhere in the distance they can hear Charlie yelling, unintelligibly. They retreat into the woods, believing it is Locke who is after them, in the direction of Charlie’s voice. Upon catching up with Locke perched with his sniper rifle, there is a stand-off until it is clear that it was not Locke who was shooting at them. He had identified at least eight “others” in the woods, and they are heavily armed, and there are likely more of them. Sayid wants to use their superior vantage point to “pick them off” but Locke urges them to wait. As the others converge in superior numbers, it seems certain the group of survivors will be toast until… The others spring Locke’s expertly laid traps, incapacitating their party and giving the LOSTies time to escape back into the woods. Leaving the mysteries of the radio antenna for another episode.
